Love your posts, but disagree with a lot of this perception and I think you are conflating situations to fit this narrative. What you're basically saying here is that if Cook had not posted the comment "15 mill year" and showed up to OTAs, he'd be signed for his desired amount. I dont think Beane was going up to $14M-$15M in any situation this offseason. But Beane DID offer him an extension of some kind. Beane was willing to pay him, it was just lower than Cook wants. To the opposite point, Edmunds didnt get paid, Singletary didnt get paid, Moss got traded, they were all "good soldiers". But the talent wasnt there to even get an extension offer. Benford, Rousseau, Bernard, and Shakir all got extensions this offseason because they have the talent AND were willing to accept team-friendly deals. Not because they showed up to OTAs and didnt post on social media. And for Benford, Bernard, and Shakir, they were all mid-late round picks so these low-dollar extensions are even more enticing for them. And outside of Diggs, who Beane had just handed a big new contract (even being known as a loud-mouth), I cant think of anyone else who tantrumed their way off the team. And even then, he still got paid. TWICE! So I dont buy what this post is selling. I think it's much more the situation that both Poyer and Hyde faced in their negotiations and unhappiness with their contracts: Beane has values placed on all positions, and he will only spend so much on certain positions. He has proven they do not place a high amount on Safety, and he's proving they have a similar low value amount on RB. And both Poyer and Hyde were good soldiers who showed up and did their jobs, but were never happy with their contracts, and never got paid.

I understand where you are coming from with your ideas. But disagree somewhat. Edmunds was certainly overdrafted. And is now overpaid. He is just not a very good NFL football player. I would not say he is Baylon Spector. But he certainly is not a difference maker. And glad we did not give him another contract. Rousseau is a solid player. His length helps in knocking down passes at the line of scrimmage. He needs to be good to very good more often. He is never going to be great, because he does not have great explosive athletic traits. I understand what the going rate is for good DE's. And am glad we resigned Rousseau. I am glad we resigned Bernard. I think when healthy he is an excellent LB. Too much talk on what a premium position is versus "non premium". You need good players all over your roster. The more good players you have, the better your team should be. If our LB's are lousy, then the defense is lousy. You can't have any weaknesses at a specific position if you can help it. Doesn't matter the position. If your Guards are lousy, then your O line is lousy, even if you have 2 all pros at Tackle and a great Center. Need good players across the roster. Don't need pro bowl guys at every position. But you can't have guys like Kair Elam starting for you. Because they will get exposed.

Agree! Like the player but I would have spent that money on Cook. If anything McDermott has shown he can get decent play from most guys he puts out there at MLB. Even Specter and Klein were serviceable. Never liked Bernard's lack of size but he's made more plays in two years of starting than Edmunds has his entire career. Hope he stays healthy and gets decent DT play in front of him this year.

Football intelligence doesn't matter if he's the guy we saw in 2024 going forward. Things like Intelligence and Being a Good Locker Room guy shouldn't supercede on field performance. I don't care how smart a player is if their performance doesn't match their smarts. The league is and has been filled with players who have a really high Football IQ that couldn't see the field or ended up busting out of the league because what they showed on field didn't match up to that intelligence. Some of the best coaches in the league are guys who have great Football IQ that didn't translate to on field success. The difference between Rousseau and Bernard in my list of those 5 extension candidates comes down to the position they play. Edge Rusher is a Premium Position. Middle Linebacker is not. Middle LB is much easier to replace than Edge Rusher. If you want a Top Tier Edge Rusher, you're going to have to pay 9 figures or have a Top 5 Pick in the Draft. Even average to slightly above average DE's around his age get swooped up within the first couple days of FA and paid a fortune. If you're taking an Edge Rusher at 30, you'll be fortunate to get a Greg Rousseau. If you take a Middle Linebacker where we pick in Round 1, you should be landing a Top 10 MLB. Thus the level of vitriol towards Edmunds. Edmunds wasn't as terrible as he was made out to be on the Board. It was just magnified a hundred fold bc of where we Drafted him and at the position he played. Drafting a MLB who can be a good starter in Rounds 2-4 is infinitely more likely than being able to find an Edge Rusher around those points in the Draft that can be Rousseau. Especially if we're okay with the kind of performance Bernard put in last season.

Interesting thoughts on Bernard. Was very surprised that he wasn't top 32 in the league. He had a great 2023, and an OK 2024. I think he is an above average athlete with great instincts on what is going on around him on the field. Is he Fred Warner? No. But he is certainly light years ahead of Tremaine Edmunds as an NFL LB. Your opinion on Bernard being #5 on who you pay of the guys up for extensions is interesting. I think his 2023 season was much better than any season Rousseau has put together. Rousseau has been consistently above average. But not consistently great by any means. I think Bernard has a higher ceiling as a football player than Rousseau. But overall keeping both is good for the team. Bernard just needs to stay healthy. I wish he would put on an extra 10-12 pounds. LB's should weigh at least mid 230's to take the pounding they get week in and week out.

Surprised Edmunds didn't make the list. Especially for how young he is.

It would be nice if we could get a few physically imposing players from time to time. Other teams WRs are bigger than our TEs. Other than Allen, Edmunds(when he was here), and maybe Spencer Brown, I can't think of many guys that are just bigger and stronger than their opponent. Bills do generally have decent size at the CB position. Can only dream what Allen could do with a guy like Mecalf.

Colts owner Jim Irsay passes away

Yes. And New Era ain't no Tremaine Edmunds either. -
Once Edmunds hits puberty, he’s going to be a true force in this league. Book it.

These jokes never get old Just like Tremaine Edmunds
-
This is great. Bears have a great prospect at MLB we can check out. 14 yr old Tremaine Edmunds has great potential to be a playmaker at such a young age and already 19 years in the league.
-
Nice chance to see Edmunds again. Now that he's 20 he will probably be coming into his own

Dude is gigantic. Looks like he is suddenly the size of Tremaine Edmunds. I'd be shocked if he wasn't on the juice. Surprised this clip came from the NFL'S official social media. The entire comment section is about steroids and Jose Conseco jokes. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16LuHpfbQt/

Kincaid played one season of high school football. He caught one pass in 2020, then he played two years of college ball before coming to the Bills. Expecting him to be "plug and play" at the position that typically requires the most ramp up time is ridiculous. On the Edmunds note, you say he didn't have an OBVIOUS replacement. How about Terrel Bernard, who was drafted by the Bills in the 3rd round of 2022 despite Edmunds being on the roster? He played behind Edmunds an entire year, then became a great starter immediately in 2023 the moment Edmunds left. Is that not an obvious replacement? I'm opting out on the rest of this thread. Enjoy.

Kincaid was thrown a lot of passes as a rookie but had very little impact. You often see teams force playing time on rookies they expected a lot of. But no receiver that begins at the LOS and had only a 9.2 yard per catch number nowadays, did anything remotely historic that season. That was sort of like the regular season Kelce had last year that people said was terrible and called him washed up. He has an age excuse. Kincaid was 25. That's PRIME age. He was supposed to be plug and play and has turned into at least a 3 year project. And the concept of a split-only TE like Kincaid really was as a rookie is fairly new so comparing his rookie season production to guys even 10 years ago is what is ridiculous. It's like comparing passing yardage and TD/INT ratio to 30-40 years ago. Edmunds was a failed trade up. He's an adequate first round pick but they also dealt a valuable second round pick to move up for him and he wasn't worth a second contract to the team. If you aren't deemed market worthy and they don't have an OBVIOUS replacement for you(which was the case when Edmunds left)....... then you probably weren't worth a first and second round pick. And we know why they didn't want to extend him. He lacks the instincts for the position that the far lesser size/speed athlete Bernard has in abundance. Yet Bernard got extended. EARLY. The Bills had Edmunds play out his 5 year deal and let a 24 year old veteran go for a reason. They even ate a big $11M+ cap hit in his option year to avoid extending him. As for noteworthy day 2 picks? What's your point? I never said he hasn't made some good day 2 picks. You are just making up a rebuttal to an argument that wasn't made. My point is simple........his itchy trade-up finger on day 1 and 2 has not yielded results they couldn't have expected by sticking and picking. I mean do you not think Fred Warner is better than Edmunds? Is LaPorta not as good as Kincaid? Metcalf/AJBrown/McLaurin all not better than frickin' Cody Ford? These were all worthwhile options at the time that they could have had without trade ups.

Yeah, i think while he's smaller - he sheds better, blitzes better, and shoots better. Edmunds was a bit better of a fit defender than shooting his gaps to make plays (Like he's blocked, but he's not "moved" like bernard might be), and i think from a sideline speed standpoint he was better equipped to limit edge gains. Considering the quality of QB in the AFC though, I'd say the value you get in creating havoc, negative plays, and turnovers is more valuable than what Edmunds offered.

To me it's limitations in the defensive checks, and soft spots in the zones. In quarters for example the boundary defender has a quarter of the field to defend, the safety has another quarter, the nickel has an underneath third, and MLB would have middle 3rd. In the scenario that Kelce was "abusing" edmunds - you might have a slot WR cutting across the front zones, which requires the nickel or will to pass that receiver to the mike who picks up the underneath receiver, the boundary receiver runs a post meaning boundary corner passes to safety and looks for underneath work on his quarter. Kelce might fake the out into that quarter and then go in behind the NB/Will and find a window between the mike. The safety has been cleared out, the corner has the sideline, and the linebackers are in conflict. Now add in the RPO element where you can just hand it off right away or attack that window. Now add in a wrinkle of jet motion from the opposite sideline - that can make the window even larger by forcing the NB/Will to account for that motion off the LOS. Or create mis-matches - Hardman covered by a LB, or Kelce covered by TJ. Buffalo needs to be able to play more effetive man coverage in a lot of these scenarios, as well as do a better job disguising the coverages.

I dont agree with Badol's overall sentiment either, Beane has made plenty of good picks, even some he traded up for. But Edmunds was a failed pick. For a 1st round pick that we traded up for, he never produced anything close to that level. It's a failed pick because he didnt deserve a 2nd contract and Beane let him walk. The fact the Bears were dumb enough to sign him to big money doesnt change that. As a matter of fact, most fans in Chicago will tell you they got screwed on that signing. Especially when they realize they let Roquan Smith walk just to replace him with Edmunds.
-
It is so ridiculous that after one of the best rookie seasons at Tight End ever, people are completely out on Dalton Kincaid in year 2. Saying Edmund is a failed Day 1 pick is equally ridiculous. He signed a massive contract in the offseason and has experienced plenty of success in the NFL. He's a failure by Beane because we didn't sign him to that overpaid contract? No. Here are some noteworthy Day 2 picks the last 4 years: O'Cyrus Torrence, Dorian Williams, James Cook, Terrel Bernard, Spencer Brown. I don't know where this mentality started of criticizing Beane at every juncture, but he's a good GM. Be glad he's with the organization.

Dont get me wrong, I love Beane. I have a "Big Baller Beane" shirt that is my lucky Tshirt and I wear it all the time. It's just offseason discussion. I was more daydreaming about what it could have looked like with Warner and Milano on the field. Not trying to bash the Edmunds pick. I wonder if that pick puts us over the top against KC in any of the playoff games? The challenges Beane would have had to keep everyone and get everyone paid? Who else would we have let walk in order to divert that money to Warner? Maybe Ed?
