  1. This is the first convention where there were more minorities on the stage than in the audience.
  2. Condi has a real credibility problem since she was complicit in the decision to invade Iraq, and Obama had to clean that up as best as possible and refocus on Bin Laden and al Quada. And if she thinks that states rights are so important, does that mean she thinks states rights should have taken precedence in the south during the civil rights movement in the 60's? Or is it just when it suits Republican causes like anti-choice?
  3. I think you're confusing Paul Ryan with Khan from Star Trek. It's the case because they're either too lazy or too stupid to take 5 minutes to find out what religion he is, where he was born, and what policies he advocates. If Palin is such an intellectual and was right about so much, why isn't she being allowed to speak at the RNC? Surely, someone with such wisdom and a loyal following should be given time to educate the masses. Come to think of it, they aren't even letting the last Republican President speak. Aren't they proud of his accomplishments as a supply-sider and commander-in-chief? The last Democrat President is speaking at the DNC.
  4. Willard's not a birther. He's also not 'severely conservative'. Which makes this even worse. He is so desperate for the ri-white wingers to turn out to vote, given that he's lost the minority vote and is significantly behind with the women's vote, that he will say anything at this point to reinforce the beliefs that the ri-white wingers have, even though he doesn't believe them. The man has no backbone. And picking Ryan just added to it. Their only hope to win is to get the angry ri-whites to vote, while conservatives try to suppress minority voters in Ohio, Penn., and Florida. What's more significant is that Romney now says that American businesses are doing well. "Big business is doing fine in many places – they get the loans they need, they can deal with all the regulation. They know how to find ways to get through the tax code, save money by putting various things in the places where there are low tax havens around the world for their businesses." Well we know Willard is an expert at that, given the limited view of his taxes. No wonder he's afraid to provide more tax returns. http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/08/romney-talks-big-business-133021.html?hp=l22
  5. What this issue shines a light on is the beliefs and actions of Paul Ryan, and the Ryan-Akin co-sponsored bill that affirms that from the moment of fertilization onward, “every human being shall have all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood.” It then says that Congress and the states have the “authority” to protect all human beings — again, defined as human life from fertilization onward — residing in their juristictions. What that means is that Ryan wants to ban abortion even due to rape or incest, and would in effect ban in vitro fertilization since that procedure usually requires the destruction of embryos, which is as extreme anti-choice as one can get. In addition, Akin and Ryan had both co-sponsored another measure, that would distinguish “forcible rape” in banning abortion funding. These are the type of extremists that Romney had to become "severely conservative" for to win the nomination, and would be the people he would be indebted to if he became president. He won the primary battle, but these are the "death by 1000 cuts" that are going to lose him the election among independents and moderates.
  6. I don't mean start Vince over Ryan, just give him a couple series before the 1st team sits. How would he do if Fitz got hurt. It would only be a controversy if he outplayed Fitz. And if he did, then that's on Fitz.
  7. I'd like to see what Vince could do with the 1st team offense with some better blockers. Hopefully next week.
  8. So a large North Korean invasion force could come to the U.S. mainland, and NORAD wouldn't notice until they're here? Never mind the South Koreans or Japanese. Doesn't matter, once Thor remembers where he put his hammer, he'll clean up.
  9. If a VP nominee gets announced on a Saturday morning during the Olympics, does it make a sound? The timing would have been more appropriate for coming clean with a tax return dump. This was a great pick...for Obama. When voters, especially the elderly, are educated on the details of the Ryan plan that Romney now owns; taxing employer-provided health care, vouchers for Medicare, and privitizing Social Security, while providing further unfunded tax cuts for the wealthy in hopes they will "trickle down" on us, it will further define the class divide that the Republicans want to implement. In addition, the lack of foreign policy experience on the Republican ticket is suprising. When was the last time that a Republican ticket didn't have experience in either candidate? That was one of the assets that Biden brought to Obama, and now Obama has his own foreign policy / commander in chief successes to run on. The further this campaign goes on, the more confident I am that Obama will be re-elected. Then on to 2016 and Hillary!
  10. Wait... PastaJoe is running the DNC now? Shhh, don't let my secret out. I use this site to test market before going national. It's so easy to agitate these guys who live on this site to get validation for their right wing views. Responses within minutes of posting at any time of day. They should at least take a break and go buy some food at their local Chick-Fil-A. Take this guy for example, not even understanding the definition of what a gaffe is. And don't forget, Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive!
  11. Shouldn't they be given tax breaks? I thought the more you make, the less you should pay in taxes, because then they'll be more likely to trickle it down on the less profitable members of society.
  12. Willard went 3 for 3 on his foreign trip. First he insults the British over his Olympic comments. Then in Israel he insults the Palestinians about their culture and throws gasoline on the fire by saying he'd move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, while giving the right-wingers in Israel carte blanche to attack Iran and start another war in the Middle East, and of course it would be up to the U.S. to clean up the mess and suffer the economic consequences. And for the hat trick in Poland, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Willard's aid told the press to, “Kiss my ass. This is a holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect.” So it appears that he believes that kissing his ass at a holy site is a sign of respect to the Poles. http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/as-mitt-romney-wraps-up-overseas-trip-his-aide-berates-reporters/2012/07/31/gJQAjefcMX_story.html?hpid=z4
  13. If they play to their potential it should be 10 wins. But experience says we always overestimate Buffalo teams, so I'll say 8 wins.
  14. Mittens first overseas visit as the presumptive nominee, and he's already labeled by the Brits as The American Borat. I wonder if Governor Mitt applauded the tribute to the British National Health System, or candidate Mitt booed it. Did candidate Mitt speak about saving the Utah Olympics, or did Olympic Mitt mention that it took hundreds of millions in federal bailout money to save the Utah Olympics? I cringe at the thought that he's visiting Poland. Will he try to break the ice with a Polish joke he heard at his country club?
  15. And 2000 when the Supremes picked Bush. It ain't over even after it's over.
  16. We know that doing nothing wouldn't change the outcome. If he couldn't legally buy an assault weapon and large clips it would at least make it harder to carry out the same assault, and perhaps less people would have been shot. We'll never be able to stop every nut, just like we'll never be able to stop every terrorist. But to do nothing and just say, 'Oh well, that's the price we pay for having a 2nd amendment' is ludicrous. The argument that then only criminals will have assault weapons is bogus. How many people walk around with an assault weapon to protect themselves from a crime? But the NRA will say the gov't wants to take away all guns, and the nuts who think the government is going to put them in FEMA camps will scream, and keep scaring enough politicians into resisting bans on assault weapons. You can keep your pistols and rifles, but there's no justification for private ownership of off-the-shelf assault weapons. The harm outweighs any 'recreational sport' benefit.
  17. The Walking Dead Band of Brothers Dexter Six Feet Under Mad Men
  18. Ever heard of the Green Bay Packers? Their region is the whole state of Wisconsin.
  19. Once again Republicans get caught in the hypocrisy of complaining when Democrats open up the Lee Atwater playbook. Willie Horton, Monica Lewinsky, Swift-boating. What goes around comes around. Oh the delicious irony! Romney opened this whole can of worms by saying his private sector experience makes him better qualified to improve the economy. OK, so let's see how well you did in the private sector based on your work. Did you profit off of the bones of closed American companies? If he's not ashamed of what he earned and how he did it, then there's no reason to keep hiding the truth. Let Republicans defend his method of obtaining wealth to the voters, and then the voters will decide who has their best interest at heart. He could have put this to rest back when Newt called for it during the primaries. To keep resisting just fuels the fire that he wants to hide the facts from the voters. Let's go conservatives, open up the books and defend your vision of capitalism to the voters. George Romney released 12 years of returns, stating that “one year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show.”, and he paid a 37 percent effective tax rate. Like father, NOT like son.
  20. Well then he was just mistaken, because the policies that were implemented are not failing. The banks were bailed out which prevented an economic collapse, the Affordable Care Act has opened up healthcare options that previously weren't available to millions, and GM and Chrysler were saved from bankruptcy and thousands of jobs were saved. We could be in even better shape if Congress would stop stonewalling on other Obama proposals to boost domestic demand and prevent further public sector layoffs at the state and local level that are a drag on the net unemployment numbers, where private sector jobs have been increasing. Not to mention his foreign policy successes. And his appearance was more about him reinforcing his conservative credentials with the right wingers than trying to win over NAACP members.
  21. My girl Hillary has been an outstanding SoS, and even some conservatives agree with that. I don't blame her for looking a bit tired sometimes, hard work will do that to a person. And we hold women to a higher standard than men. Alot of it is what hair style she wears; some are better than others. I met her in the 90's and she looks better in person than in pictures. And she would be a tremendous choice for president in 2016 (and would have been in 2008). She has only improved and expanded on her resume. Reagan won when he was 69. And her recent approval rating was at 66%, which must include some Republicans. She can take her well deserved break after she steps down from SoS, recharge and then make a run in 2016 after Obama's 2nd term.
  22. Ask the workers at Niagara Envelope how well he "made the trains run". Meanwhile, Obama made the cars run off the production lines in Detroit, which they wouldn't be doing if Willard had his way and there were no loans to GM or Chrysler. http://www.buffalonews.com/business/article924536.ece
  23. Most parents dictate what religion their kids grow up believing in, and organized religion throughout history has been responsible for much of the political debate. So I wouldn't worry about what your kid hears from you about politics. What you can do is explain what both side's views are of a given debate, and then explain why you favor one over the other, and ask them what they think about it.
  24. Now they're stealing material from Mussolini? I thought trains were a liberal socialist idea to take away an individual's right to drive where they want when they want. Plus it would adversely impact the oil industry and require spending more on infrastructure.
  25. I started the day thinking that the result would be like when the Bills signed Mark Anderson, good but not great, but then was pleasantly surprised when they went all in and got Mario Williams. Thankfully Roberts put law over ideology. A constitutional law whose idea was started by the conservative Heritage Foundation in 1989, and then implemented as Romneycare in Mass., which it was modeled after, but is now opposed for political reasons because it was enacted by a Democrat. In 20 years people will look upon this and same-sex marriage like we do now about the Civil Rights Act. Lots of protests and claims it will be the ruin of the country when enacted, but now considered common sense. The best thing Romney could have done to win over moderates would have been to embrace Romneycare. But he couldn't and still win the primary, and now he's in too deep to go back to his previous stand from 2006; "With regards to the individual mandate, the individual responsibility program that I proposed, I was very pleased that the compromise between the two houses includes the personal responsibility mandate. That is essential for bringing the health care costs down for everyone and getting everyone the health insurance they need." http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/06/28/old-video-shows-romney-lauding-old-health-care-mandate/ Justice Ginsberg even cited Romneycare as part of the reason to uphold the Affordable Care Act. 'Writing on the subject of providing affordable insurance to those with preexisting conditions, Ginsburg noted that Massachusetts “cracked [the] adverse selection problem.” and highlighted briefs explaining “the success of Massachusetts’ reforms.” Under the Massachusetts health system, most residents were required to buy insurance so that insurance companies wouldn’t be left only with sick customers – and thus skyrocketing premiums. “As a result, federal lawmakers observed, Massachusetts succeeded where other States had failed,” Ginsburg wrote. Ginsburg also referenced a brief “noting … the Commonwealth’s reforms” which “reduced the number of uninsured residents to less than 2%, the lowest rate in the Nation, and cut the amount of uncompensated care by a third… In coupling the minimum coverage provision with guaranteed issue and community-rating prescriptions, Congress followed Massachusetts’ lead.” http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/06/ginsburg-opinion-cites-massachusetts-law-127565.html
