Someone Please Explain the Palin Hatred!
PastaJoe replied to PearlHowardman's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Define 'errors'. Do they include her versions of the truth that are disputed by others, such as by John McCain? Or are those considered lies? http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/67969-m...for-troopergate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who spoke to The Hill Monday evening, denied Sarah Palin’s allegation that his campaign stuck her with a $50,000 legal bill to pay for the cost of vetting her as a potential vice presidential candidate. McCain said the bill was for legal work related to allegations that Palin made improper use of her influence as Alaska’s governor to press for the dismissal of a state trooper named Mike Wooten. Wooten was embroiled in a custody dispute with Palin’s younger sister, Molly McCann. “That was addressed by Trevor Potter,” said McCain, “That was over the troopergate.” -
Did I miss something in the last election? Were registered voters denied the right to vote for the candidate of their choice? That damn liberal media didn't report it. All the sacrifices of our forefathers and their traditional American ideals to give the right to vote to land-owning white men, then all white men, then minorities and women. Oh how I wax nostalgic for the days when only some of the people got to vote, just the people that knew what was best for the rest of us. Damn that Obama administration for ruining that tradition.

She never served, she just showed her 5 deferments from when she had better things to do. -

I don't have any sympathy for drunk drivers. If you do the crime, you should do the time, regardless of who your parents are. Especially if you're old enough to know better. -
Read A Bill On The Senate Floor

Of course, and I believe it will do both. Some of you don't. We're not going to change each other's minds, so it is what it is. -

No, the Republicans didn't do the same thing, they didn't legislate for a comprehensive reform of health insurance that would increase coverage for the majority of the uninsured while reducing long-term costs. I don't support a bill like the one you describe, since that isn't what's being proposed. Both the House and Senate bills were scored by the CBO as reducing the deficit by different amounts, and they don't even include the less tangible savings that will result from improved efficiencies. The CBO is the most non-partisan assessment that is available. -

When was the last time EITHER party tackled that issue? The only difference is which interests the money is wasted on. I missed where Bush and the Republican Congress reduced the deficit and debt, and didn't contribute to the problem. The CBO scored the latest Senate health plan, and The CBO estimates the proposal would reduce the federal deficit by about $130 billion over the next 10 years. But Republicans only point out the initial cost, not the fact that overall we end up saving money. A talking point fallacy regarding the current Senate proposal, unless you want to eliminate Medicare and Medicaid. A public option is not a mandate, if you don't want gov't run health care, then don't choose that OPTION. You have the freedom to vote for whoever you prefer. Just because you can't get a majority of people to agree with you doesn't mean you've lost your freedom. You've just lost your argument. The Republicans are not serious about health insurance reform, which is what this really is. If they were, they would have taken action when they had the White House and the Congress. What they offer now are some last minute plans so they can say they have something to cover their arses. They have no credibility on offering reform, because they never do it when they are in the majority. -

Good, when they do that and then filibuster, it will just remind voters that the 'Just Say No' Republican party is void of solutions. -

9/11 masterminds to be tried in Lower Manhattan
PastaJoe replied to bills_fan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Too bad you equate those of us who believe in the rule of law and the Constitution as "hand wringers". I don't believe in your Taliban-style preference to just kill those in detention without a day in court. Previous terrorists like the blind sheik and Timothy McVeigh went through our judicial system without incident and were found guilty. -

I was unemployed for 6 months after the economy tanked last fall and the company I worked at had layoffs in April. But I found a job last month with better growth potential. In the last month a bought an American made washer and had a new driveway put in. Hopefully that helped someone else keep or get a job. The economy is slowly getting better, there is hope for people that are unemployed. -

Gitmo needs to be closed. I have more faith in our judicial system and Constitution than you naysayers. -
9/11 masterminds to be tried in Lower Manhattan
PastaJoe replied to bills_fan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If they were tried before tribunals, they wouldn't need trials now. If they have to be put on trial, the appropriate place is either NYC or Washington, where the attacks occurred. In the open, for everyone to see. -
He's just using Buffalo to raise his price when he goes to Dallas.

If the previous administration had actually made a decision on how to process these detainees and actually went forth with the prosecutions, this would all be a moot point. But given that they left this on the big pile of trash to be cleaned up after they left, having the trials in NYC is appropriate. That is where their acts of terrorism occurred. NYC has handled civilian trials against terrorists previously, they were brought to justice, and are now incarcerated on U.S. soil. It was shown before and will be shown again that we are a nation of laws, and that we will not allow terrorists to scare us into lowering ourselves to their level. I have faith in our justice system and our security services. -
I started to go numb before the first game when they cut the offensive coordinator and left tackle right before the regular season. That told me they didn't have a clue about what they had and what they needed. I'm cutting the rookie linemen Woods and Levitre slack this year because they've been thrown into a lousy situation where there's a lack of leadership and they're switching lineman around them every week. And then they throw Levitre out to left tackle yesterday after Bell got hurt. You're telling me that Walker wasn't as good as all the other options they've been trying? Swallow your pride and bring him back if he's still available.

I'm so glad the level-headed people on the right are here to show us how to give the proper respect for women in politics like Hillary and Pelosi. -
RNC ends abortion coverage for employees
PastaJoe replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's not a stand-alone insurance policy, but part of the comprehensive coverage that was part of the policy. Nobody plans on having any illness or medical procedure. -
The Republican National Committee will no longer offer employees an insurance plan that covers abortion, Politico reports this morning. "Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose," Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement. "I don't know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled." The decision follows a story by Politico on Thursday disclosing that the RNC's insurance plan with Cigna has covered elective abortion since 1991. The party officially opposes abortion rights. It's platform calls the procedure "a fundamental assault on innocent human life." http://content.usatoday.com/communities/on...its-employees/1 Ironic that while they've been complaining about the current healthcare proposals, they didn't even know what was in their own plan for almost the past 2 decades.

It's long overdue to try these terrorists, and NYC has been able to handle it in the past with the trial of sheik Rahman. The first step in finally closing Gitmo. And feel free to build a supermax prison in the field behind my house if that will help the process. -
I never said anything about surveys. I just answered the request for a link on the daily briefings. It wasn't just Bush, but the Republican Congress, many of whom are still serving and want to be in charge again, who increased spending. I love how nobody who supported these people want to take ownership now that it doesn't suit their current political agenda.
-
While federal spending under a Republican president and Congress continued to increase. "Hey, let's spend even more AND bring in even less at the same time!". But since it was Republicans doing it, the Teabaggers were content to remain silent.

New Gallup Poll on Health Care Reform
PastaJoe replied to Magox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yesterday's Republicans are todays Independents, as the percentage of Americans identifying themselves as Republicans have dropped to the low 20%s. The absurdity of the opposition to reform and the level of vitriol was displayed last week at the rally sponsored by the House Republican leadership that was officially billed as a G.O.P. press conference with the display of large signs showing piles of bodies at Dachau with the caption “National Socialist Healthcare.” Anyone who characterizes this reform effort as a government takeover of healthcare and socialized medicine is simply either uninformed or purposely trying to misinform others to further their political agenda. Reform does not equal takeover.
