Deconstructing Marrone: Hackett Not To Blame
Maddog69 replied to Rivermont Mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If course we don't. Same way we don't know for sure if a new OC would make any different with a questionable OL and crappy QB play. But, it makes sense to assume we would have won the game with an additional TD on the scoreboard. It would have meant 7 more points on the scoreboard. I -
Deconstructing Marrone: Hackett Not To Blame

If Orton completed 1 of 7 redzone pass attempts (or if Bryce Brown doesn't fumble) we win the KC game and are in the playoffs. -
What makes you think he would have signed?
-
Marcel has a year left so he's not an immediate priority. Whatever money spent on re-signing him would not kick in until 2016 anyway. So, Hughes is #1 priority. I don't think there's going to be a great QB option available, so I would probably rather fix the OL and bring in another QB to add competition.

Deconstructing Marrone: Hackett Not To Blame
Maddog69 replied to Rivermont Mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This^Plus, successful OC's tend to be short term. Look at how many guys were great for a year or two and then sucked at other times. It has to do with Quality QB play, chemistry and luck. A few names come to mind: Joe Pendry - sucked when he was here. Won a superbowl elsewhere. Kevin Gilbride - Had a few successful stints and several bad ones. Marty Schettenheimer's kid: Had a really great year with NYJ and then sucked and got fired. Bottom line, find your self a great QB and you will be a great OC (same with HC). It's all about QB. Cardinals won in spite of the offense. -
Deconstructing Marrone: Hackett Not To Blame

This is Marrone's offense. I don't think expect him to hire someone with a different offensive philosophy to run it. The problems with the offense are on Marrone as much as Hackett. I don't get why people can't understand this. Even if Hackett were forced out by Whalley or Pegula, Marrone would hire another yes man and the offensive system and game plans would be the same. If you want a different offensive philosophy, you will need a new HC. -
Deconstructing Marrone: Hackett Not To Blame

1.) One is a veteran, journeyman who has had these issues his entire career. The other is a young, inexperienced QB who had these issues in college and has yet to develop or improve them. 2.) Marrone was supposed to bring a dynamic, innovative offense. They initially tried the uptempo thing at the start of last year but the poor OL, inexperienced QBs and then EJ injury made them pull the plug. As for this year, not sure Orton is really the right guy to be running an uptempo offense. -
Deconstructing Marrone: Hackett Not To Blame
Maddog69 replied to Rivermont Mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've made both of these statements in other thread but they are worth repeating 1.) If we had a competent QB who could make simple throws, we would be easily in the playoffs and this conversation about the OC would not be happening 2.) The offense is Marrone's offense. I don't think Hackett has autonomy, therefore he does not deserve the blame. Unless Marrone is willing to give up control of the offense to a new OC, I think Hackett stays. -
Can We Spend Your Money Mister Pegula?
Maddog69 replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you, to a point. I think the difference is that fans now have the confidence that TP is committed to winning a championship and will spend the necessary resources to do so and that he will have the wherewithal to convince a top coach/gm/free agent to come to Buffalo because all reasonable efforts will be made to win. I don't expect the Bills to be quite as bottom line focused as they have been previously. As Pegula said with the Sabres, "if I need more money, I'll dig another well". To your point, it is unreasonable to expect Terry to just throw money away or to write a blank check for someone. But I do believe things will be different under the Pegula family and that has fans excited (maybe a little over excited). -
What do you mean by "defer the compensation we gave up for Sammy"? That trade is done. We cannot choose to change the details of it. As for trading our #1 in 2016, I am not in favor of trading that pick in order to secure a QB in this years draft. The draft is clearly a crap shoot and any QB taken this year would likely do nothing to make us a playoff team in 2015. In the unlikely event that a top veteran QB becomes available via trade, I would be willing to give up future draft pick compensation depending on the quality of that QB. But it would need to be a legit Top starting QB in the league (Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Peyton, Eli, Big Ben, Wilson, Flacco, Ryan, Stafford). I would not want to trade a #1 pick for Kaep.

Bortles 10 TDs and 17 INTs in 15 games EJ 16 TDs and 12 INTs (plus 3 rushing TDs) in 15 games. Tell me again how Bortles looks way better? Its funny how nearly every QB in the league is better than anyone we have to some people.

It's an invalid Poll, in my opinion. The options are all loaded. I would want Spiller back but only at reduced costs. And I would not want Rice because of his age, reduced effectiveness and mostly because he's clearly a dirtbag.

K.C loss looking more important now ... in playoff standings
Maddog69 replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't forget the numerous missed opportunities in the redzone in that game. We have a handful of chances to score a TD and misfired on all of them. That game was there for the taking and the Bills blew it. That one hurts. -
Orton isn't playing like he's scared to make a mistake. He makes them on almost every play. He's playing like he doesn't give a crap at all. That's the part about him that I really dislike.

Can we hold onto Schwartz for next year?
Maddog69 replied to LA Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. I think he would be smart to stay one more year here and then if the defense continues to be as good, he might get his shot at another HC spot after 2015. Heck, he might get the chance to take over the Bills after next season of the offense doesn't improve. -
Would you trade our 2016 1st rd pick for Drew Brees?
Maddog69 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He slipped my mind. I hate him. But yes. I'd trade a 1 for him and move my wife and daughter into protective custody -
Would you trade our 2016 1st rd pick for Drew Brees?
Maddog69 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the issues with the OC are exacerbated by crappy QB play. If Orton completed just 1 of 7 passes in the redzone to score a TD in the KC game (or if Brown doesn't fumble away the TD), we are in a playoff spot and the complaining would be dimished greatly. -
Would you trade our 2016 1st rd pick for Drew Brees?
Maddog69 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. I absolutely would. I would also trade it for Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Flacco, Ryan, Luck, Wilson and Eli Manning That's about it. Any one of those would immediately make us a playoff team and superbowl contender. -
That's a surprise. Can't figure out what happened with him. Must be another one who got in St Doug's dog house. He was a good blocker, good special teamer and caught the ball well out of the backfield.

Hamburg location is definitely closed. I think both are closed.

How about inserting E J for a few plays?
Maddog69 replied to ShelfromNJ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the complete lack of innovation in our offense is mind boggling. These goofballs were brought in because they were supposed to be innovative offensive minds. -
I feel bad for the Bucs. Aaron is going to throw for atleast 3-4 TDs this week.

No problem Ice. Glad to have you on TBD. I was surprised/disappointed by Rodgers comments though. Came off as cry baby-ish. I've always liked and respected him. That was diminished a bit for me. Just give credit to the Bills Defense and move on. I'm sure the Packers will be fine. I expect them in the NFC championship game.
