It's all about potential...As a pure athlete he's exactly what you're looking for at QB...He's exactly what Chan is looking for as an athlete at QB...He's a perfect fit for Chan...He's REAL smart...REAL smart...He loves Football...He's gone to great lengths to talk to other QB's in the league...He knows what is expected of him up front and he's ready for it...He's a Leader... Now all that being said he's a QB and all the potential and smarts in the world does not really guarantee success...But I think from the standpoint of what attributes you look for in an NFL Prospect QB Gabbert is a fairly safe bet to be a decent Player...We'll see though...Alex Smith went #1 overall...Who really knows?

No offense to you, but some Bills Fans still see him as a back-up caliber Player because so do NFL experts and Hall Of Fame caliber Players. Some of whom who PLAYED against Fitz...Did you see what Willie McGinest and Trent Green said just last night on NFL Network about Fitz? And none of these ex-players are taking anything away from what Fitz did last year...They admit he played very well at times...McGinest said he's not a bad QB at all...But as a Franchise/Face of the Organization QB...Not so much... McGinest said "You're talking about who you are going to put your Franchise behind, and it's not Ryan Fitzpatrick...I like the guy, I played against him, I think he's a good Player...But I don't think The Bills are ready to say hey, we're going to open the gates, put everything behind you...You have two talented guys in the Draft that can change that...That the Bills can be proud of...It's a QB driven league...I think they want to go with somebody that is going to get everyone excited. And that's a big time QB...That's one of these guys coming out in the Draft..." McGinest and Green were referring to Newton and Gabbert btw... I saw it written here numerous times by Bills fans that the Presser was indication enough that The Bills would not take a QB at #3...The guys on the NFL Network completely disagreed with that and took the opposite stance...The comment by Buddy about this being the right time to take a QB was proof enough for them...Why? Because they don't believe The Bills have a Franchise QB...They don't believe in Fitz...Almost no one outside of Buffalo does...I've seen Deion Sanders and others on the NFL Network laugh when posed with the Fitz question...They LAUGH!!! Now granted all these "experts" could be wrong...But I'm telling you there is almost no one outside of some Bills Fans and some Folks over at OBD that believe Fitz is a long term solution at Starting QB for ANY NFL Team...So don't just point to Bills Fans because it's not just Bills Fans...It's the CLEAR majority of Folks who get paid to cover NFL Football as well...And I imagine it's those opinions that are shaping some Bills Fans' opinions...
-
We'll see...I'm not going to try to hide the fact that I'm not a big believer in Fitz cause I'm not...Too many INT's and forcing the ball in...The ball slipping out of his hand stuff...He should have had a few more TD's last year but by all rights he also should have had a few more INT's...He's fearless but a little too fearless at times......I wish he was a couple inches taller, etc...Same stuff most Fitz critics will say... But IF The Bills go the Fitz route I sure as hell hope he does continue to improve and becomes the next Brees...That would truly be awesome...But I'm not counting on it...In fact I think it will end up being somewhere in the middle...He may improve some, but not enough to get The Bills where they need to go...And in a couple years he'll be gone, or the back-up...But we'll see I guess...If they take Miller over Gabbert that is showing a tremendous amount of confidence in Fitz...We'll see next Thurs...
-
Well that's a serious limb you've gone out on there... But regardless of whether or not I agree...I do hope you're right about Fitz...But I just don't see how a Career 58% Passer is going to turn into the next Brees, who is one of the most accurate Passers in the history of the NFL...But again I hope you're right...Sometimes miracles do happen...
-
The Bills must be awfully desperate for a TE when TBD Posters are trying to turn 215 lb WR's into TE's on consecutive days...
-
Whatever dude...Did you even read the update? Your anti-Mallett campaign and million slow jokes are duly noted...I never said it was the Panthers Organization necessarily either...Nor did I say it was anything other than the feeling I get...But please continue to bash the Kid for no apparent reason other than he's the latest in the line of guys you incessantly mock around here... And I'm guessing even as slow as he is he could beat you in a foot race...
-
Well there you go... I know from experience there are plenty of Charlotte Restaurants that can make you sick as a dog... Just saying...
-
Well...It has been hinted... Gailey on Miller

Anybody watching these Gruden QB camp things?
KOKBILLS replied to Haven Moses's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I saw Gabbert on that new NFL Network Show where Mooch put him up on the Board and the Kid is REAL sharp...But everyone knows that about him already...The short clip I saw of Gabbert on Gruden's Show was kind of a joke...Just Gruden trying to get laughs and showing a clip of Payton Manning coming away from center on Play Action about a half a million times...It sucked...I mean...I understand the point he was trying to make...But we all get it Coach...Move on... -
Honestly I've been getting that feeling about Mallett since before his Jr. Year...And I'm not big on conspiracy theories or anything like that...What I do know about Mallett is, based on pure ability and just raw potential, he is a sure fire Top 15 Pick in any NFL Draft...It seems to me like some Teams are doing everything they can to push him into the 2nd Round...I still don't think it's going to work but we'll see soon enough... Also interesting that I live in Charlotte, listen to Sports Talk here religiously, and did not here anything about this till today...You think someone would have called in a Ryan Mallett out-on-the-town-partying-sighting...But who knows...

Buddy Nix: Perfect time for Bills to draft a quarterback
KOKBILLS replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on what Modrak hinted yesterday and what Mike Mayock has come right out and said Gabbert did not have a ton of help last Season...Mayock basically said his O-Line was brutal... No...You are definitely not the only one... Though I do think the fact that Gailey is the HC will help him from reverting too far... -
Exactly...Something the completely clueless, deaf, or Fitz-ball-washers around here refuse to admit...How anyone could watch that Presser yesterday, or listen to the quotes out of Nix, Gailey, and Ralph this past year and NOT think QB is at very least a legit possibility at #3 is well beyond my imagination... How many Games did Modrak see Gabbert live just this past Season? You think there may be a little interest there Folks?... Talk about wishful thinking by those who have already written off the QB possibility...It's more like sleep walking...I'm not saying the Bills will take a QB at #3 because I have no idea...But I am saying it's a HUGE debate right now at OBD and it will be for another week...Maybe they go OLB or D-Line in the end...But nothing is certain yet, and I'm guessing the QB's are still a HUGE part of the conversation...
-
I think Miller is a heck of a Prospect and if The Bills take him they'll find a way to fit him in...Gailey hinted they may even look at moving him inside (next to Poz when he's re-signed I imagine), then have him Rush the Passer on 3rd Down... That being said, I STILL think Miller is an awfully tough sell to Ralph who is on record wanting a Franchise QB...I think far too many Bills Fans are overlooking the Ralph factor in this pick...The Owner wants a Franchise QB...Period...He's on record... So I'm guessing the conversation could go something like this...Nix is going to go to Ralph and say, "Miller is our guy because he can rush the Passer. He may be the next Derrick Thomas" And Ralph is going to say "That's what Modrak's Scouting Department said about Maybin a few years back. He was supposed to be the next Jason Taylor...What about the QB Buddy?" And Nix says something like..."Well, we really like Gabbert but we think it's too high for him here at #3, we need a Starter, and we need an OLB who can Rush the Passer." So Ralph says "We need a Franchise QB more though...We have Moats, Merriman, and we still have Maybin...You do what you think is best...But if Gabbert turns out to be the QB we so greatly need it's not going to go over too well and you know it...I think we should take the QB..." And Buddy takes the QB... It's just a guess...But I can see it going down that way...We'll see though...IF the Bills take Miller it does tell me Nix is completely in charge and Ralph has definitely taken a backseat...

Buddy Nix: Perfect time for Bills to draft a quarterback
KOKBILLS replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If last years Draft was any indication then I would have to disagree...The Bills made zero effort to hide their love for Spiller, even though half the world thought there was no way they would go that way because it was not a need...If Buddy was so coy he could have completely blindsided the NFL with the Spiller Pick. And as it turned out no one was really surprised by the time they took him...I just don't see Buddy or Chan being the type that wants to play these "smokescreen" Games...When they say they like a Kid you can bet your bottom dollar they mean it...They are not going to volunteer much info, but if you ask them they shoot as straight as they can without giving up exactly what they are going to do... -
Buddy Nix: Perfect time for Bills to draft a quarterback
KOKBILLS replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At this point in Charlotte it would be a HUGE surprise if Newton does not go #1 Overall...I'd say if you polled 10 people in this City 9 would say they fully expect Newton to be the Pick... -
Please... You're not comparing Edwards to Gabbert are you?
-
I will give you credit for one thing...It's the best possible plan to land Andrew Luck...Problem is Fitz is just good enough to pull out one more Game than some other Team that totally sucks and the Bills are right back here next year...Picking 3rd-10th with no Franchise QB and no Luck...If you know what I mean... I'll trust Gailey and Nix on this I guess...But they better hope Gabbert really sucks if they pass on him at #3 or it will likely be their ticket out of town...We'll see soon enough how it all plays out...

Nix and Modrak Address Media
KOKBILLS replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly... Like I said above it's REAL simple...IF Gailey and Nix feel Gabbert is a Franchise guy it's a no-brainer Pick for them...They'll be up there with that card in half-a-heartbeat... -
I think there's no question they like Gabbert a lot...Well enough to make him the Pick at #3 Overall? Who knows...But they like him a lot...That's obvious...

Horton ESPN AFC East Team Needs
KOKBILLS replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Donte Whitner is a terrific player." I wish he had wrote that first...It would have saved me the 2 mins it took to read the thing... -
We'll see...But caps lock or not you're going out on a limb there vs some pretty good NFL Scouts...
-
I think those who are writing Mallett off as some kind of one legged country-bumpkin who is going to have a hard time figuring out what sideline his team is on, and even a harder time running to that sideline, are definitely going to be surprised in time...They're going to find out exactly what VERY good SEC Defenses did the past two years...The Kid can play and he's got rare...REALLY rare arm strength...And if you protect him, he can make throws you can't even imagine... There is not going to be a QB for a long, long time with an arm picture perfect made for Buffalo weather the way Mallett's is...I'm not saying he's a shoe-in because it's going to take the right Coach and the right situation for him to excel...But if that happens he's going to be pretty good...Given the right situation and the right Team he's definitely not going to be a joke if you have to play him twice a year... Mallett may very well be boom or bust, but that boom is going to be sonic if it happens...

KOKBILLS replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Nix and Gailey are truly high on Gabbert he will be the Pick...Period, end of story...They're not going to Draft any Defensive Player ahead of a QB they think will be a Franchise guy in a year or two... If the Bills pass on Gabbert, they simply don't think he's going to be a Franchise guy...Assuming Newton and Dareus are gone, if Miller is the pick, we'll all know exactly what they really think about Gabbert...
