Longtime lurker just has to chime in...
KOKBILLS replied to mclauria1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the link! Good read...I hope this guy is right...But I do think they view Barron as an answer in those short zone areas and TE coverage as well...It may come down to Barron or Kuechly...So...If I was GM and I had Barron and Kuechly with similar Grades, I would wonder what depth I like better...Morrison/Moats, or Wilson/Searcy/Scott...But that's just me... -
Casserly: Buffalo picks Tannehill
KOKBILLS replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather see it than Barron...I'll say that much... -
Nobody rushed the passer either in those games...The QB's had all day...So was it the chicken or the egg? Either way if I though Barron was actually that guy...the guy who could come in a blanket a TE I would be AOK with it...but I'm not convinced he is...In fact I'm not convinced Barron would be that much more effective than Kuechly in that respect...And I think LB is a bigger need...I think The Bills have MUCH bigger Needs than SS...But maybe it's just me...I don't know... I'm just going to have to see if Barron can do it...Because there are PLENTY of NFL experts who think he can, and plenty who think he can't...We'll see...
-
Agreed...But some Teams have HUGE needs at Safety and Barron is clearly the best Safety in a REAL thin Safety class...I think most of these Teams would LOVE to have Wilson and Searcy too...It's all relative to need...Unless you're The Buffalo Bills of course...
-
Agreed...I just think for The Bills to pick Barron at this time they are basically compiling talent and not building a Team...No one can convince me that Barron will have a bigger impact on this Team as it stands now than Kuechly, Floyd, or Gilmore...My feeling is he's a SS...And there's no way I'm taking a SS at #10...Especially when I have a decent one, AND I just Drafted one in the 4th Round last year...And they both played OK with basically zero pass rush... Now Barron may come in and prove me completely wrong...That's why this is so much fun right?... But I just don't see why we are even thinking SS at this point for this team at #10...Makes no sense to me whatsoever...But that's JMO...

I'm not sure there has EVER been more differing opinions on a prospect than with Barron... CBS Sports - "He appears to have good, but not great, speed and was rarely put in a position where he had to cover a slot receiver man to man." "Man Coverage: Not often asked to drop down and cover the slot in this scheme. Is a bit stiff in the hips and has only average change of direction. Does show a late burst to close on the football. " Bill Polian - "a box safety who plugs the run but struggles in coverage." Pro Football Weekly - "Saban wisely protected him in coverage as a senior and allowed him to excel in the box, where he is most physical and consistently shows up in run support. However, he showed he possessed enough range off the hash as a junior and is capable of becoming an interchangeable back-half defender. " National Football Post - "Has the makings of a heck of a special teams player who can also attack downhill vs. the run game, play inside the box and drive on the football in front of him in the pass game. Isn't going to be a major threat turning and tracking the football." "Demonstrates above-average ball skills in man coverage and uses his length well to make plays on the football. However, anytime he's asked to re-direct and/or turn and run he will struggle with his balance. Is a little tighter in the hips because of size and when forced to turn and run, gets upright and doesn't reach top end speed quickly. However, did a much better job as a senior keeping his feet under him and collecting himself when asked to go up and make a play on the football. Makes a lot of calls in the secondary and has improved his instincts when feeling routes develop around him as a senior as well." Sideline Scouting - "Has stiffness in hips and lack of fluidity in deep coverage, projects best as a strong safety in the NFL... Coverage skills are average at best, does not have elite range in zone coverage, not fluid enough to run with a lot of slot receivers in the NFL... Change of direction ability is questionable, does not have the quickest feet, can play high at times... Will bite on play action at times when playing in the box, definitely a run-first defender, may be relegated to two-down run stopping early in career... Can be too aggressive at times, tends to take bad angles when flying around the field, will miss tackles in the open field... Lacks elite explosiveness, lack of quickness may be the biggest factor, needs to work on changing directions with more leverage and fluidity.. That's just a few I've read...One thing is certain though about Barron...Most every Scout feels he will be an excellent SS vs. the run...How he's going to fit into the passing game is where the difference in opinions really come out...

If you believe that I've got some awesome Real Estate you may be interested in...

True...But I'm uncertain as to why a regime that so far is 10-22 is beyond scrutiny at this point?...I'm not as optimistic about this Scouting Dept., and the thought process, as others...And I'm not a pessimist...Just a realist...I give Buddy his due...I know he knows football, but he comes across to me at least as being a little to smug...I'm just not sure I trust his judgement Draft-wise...And maybe it is just me...IMHO they are 1-1 in the Draft, with the one victory coming mainly due to a pick my 5 year old Niece could have made (Dareus)...So...Just saying...
-
Really?...That's brand new information I had no idea... The "they" I referred to was The Buffalo Bills...This is a Buffalo Bills Message Board...I'm giving my opinion on the Buffalo Bills... Nice CAPS btw...Excitable much? Oh and and that little smiley I had after that statement...That's for sarcasm...You know...When someone is kind of kidding, or half kidding...Get to know your smiley's...They are your friends...

I'm sure they knew a lot more about Whitner too when I wanted them to pick Ngata... I know it seems like I'm being hard on Barron, but I concede he's a VERY good prospect...I do think Barron is being a bit over-valued because he's clearly the best Safety in this Draft...I just don't think he's everything SOME Scouts (like McShay) are saying he is...And I'll side with Polian over McShay any day of the week and twice on Sunday...But the main reason I don't like Barron for The Bills is really not so much about the player, it's about the position and the Team...I believe in Team building and not talent collecting...I just don't think it's a good idea to Draft a SS at #10 for this Team as it is right now, and if I'm wrong so be it...In fact if they Pick Barron I hope I am wrong...If he's the Pick I will hope Barron becomes the next Polomalu...I just doubt it's gonna happen... I do agree about the Spiller reminder...And that's a whole different subject...I was against that pick as well for the same reasons I'm against the Barron pick...And I LOVED CJ Spiller in College...But we already had Marshawn and Freddie, and I did not like the Pick...But whatever...We'll see in a few years if this Barron Kid is worthy of a Top 10 Pick...Because it sure as heck looks like he's going there...
-
They just picked up on the WGR Report... BUT...The part about Polian disagreeing with McShay's take on the type of Safety Barron is...That's the REAL story here as far as I'm concerned...Like I've been saying all along...He's a downhill SS...And Folks are trying to turn him into something he's not. Just because he is clearly the best Safety in this Draft does not mean he's a FS or that he's going to be able to cover TE's...He's not a turn and run guy, or a cap the top of the Defense guy...He's not the prospect Eric Berry was...IMHO Barron's not an answer for the cover game...At least not the way some are reporting he will be... Thanks Y'all!...It's pretty clear the Board feels Gilmore may be taken before #10, and the preference is Kuechly over Barron and Gilmore...
-
Exactly... I know some Folks just toss this kind of thing aside...And maybe I should as well...But you're talking about benching a team leader, and pushing last years 4th Round Pick farther down the depth chart when he clearly showed promise as a Rookie...These are SS's who played with ZERO pass rush...It may not be popular around here...But I agree with Belichick....You build a Team, you don't collect talent...LT, WR, OLB, CB...All HUGE needs, and we're going to take a SS at #10?... I'll just say this...I never hope for a Bills Draft Pick to do anything but excel...But over the past few years I have REALLY hated a few 1st Rd picks...Whitner, Maybin, and Spiller...And I already hate the Barron Pick if that's what we do...I think my instincts are pretty good...But if we Pick Barron I hope I'm wrong...
-
Totally agree with the take on LB and DB...Plus we do have 10 picks...It's not like we can't go CB, S, and LB somewhere during this Draft... That being said I think it's got to be close to 90% that one of these 3 is the pick at #10...I'm feeling it slide that way...But I do REALLY hope for Jeffery in the 2nd...I like Jeffery more than Floyd btw...But that's just me...So...
-
I agree that Barron may be the best coming out...But Gilmore has a HUGE upside once he gets Coached up...His size/speed, blitz ability, and willingness to tackle is VERY attractive... Martin is a decent long-term project...But he's not a Buddy-type...And he would be a HUGE reach at #10...At #41 maybe...But just maybe...
-
I would not bet on that if I were you...There are Scouts that feel if Martin goes in the 1st Round he will be the most over-drafted player in the Draft...Martin needs at least a year or two to develop...
-
Just wondering how the Board sees this scenario...Just my opinion, I think the Pick is going to come down to these 3, but I'm guessing that somehow, someway, one of them will be gone by #10...So I wanted to see who we felt was the most likely of the three to be Drafted before #10 overall?...And who would be the preference of the three? Thanks...

Buffalo Bills Pick #41 in Mock Draft
KOKBILLS replied to R. Rich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kendall Wright...A 5-10 slot WR (in the NFL) who is not a speed burner to say the least (4.6 at the Combine...Though he did improve that to the 4.45-4.49 area in his PW)... So...When Buddy said we need a WR that is open even when he's not...We just kind of ignored that because a name guy fell?...And he's falling for a reason btw...In fact they highlighted Wright specifically yesterday on Path To The Draft as a WR who could be falling because of his size/speed ratio...The thought being he's not suited to play outside in the NFL...He would be the smallest WR taken in the 1st Round since Santana Moss who ran a 4.39 at Indy... Good job kids... -
Totally agree with this take...Again you build a Team, you don't collect talent...And if need was not a HUGE factor, then why in the heck do we, and everybody else, talk about it night and day? BPA is more of a bluff than anything nowadays...IMHO of course... Never thought of it that way...But you sure as heck got that right!
-
Agreed 100%...Lombardi said recently that Belichick always told him "You're building a Team, not collecting talent." The Bills have a great Locker Room by all accounts...You need to be careful in that area as well...The Bills have Needs no question...But 13 Picks is way too much...

Bills Scout's player soundbytes
KOKBILLS replied to Mark Long Beach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very cool...Thanks for that! -
Agreed...Byrd and Wilson are actually viewed as decent on a Defense that got virtually NO Pass Rush in 2011...I'm interested to see how much better they do with the new line-up... Bigger Needs elsewhere...And SS at #10?...No thanks...
-
I think Fleener might sneak in...Especially to The Giants at #32...
-
Well...No... But to be fair JP was a QB, and Barron/Whitner are Strong Safeties...And at this time in 2006 there were some teams, like the Bills, who felt Whitner was the next coming as well...I think Barron is a better player coming out...But he's a SS...And I don't believe in Drafting SS's high...Especially SS's who don't project well to FS in the NFL...Whitner only helps that argument...But I hear what you're saying...I would take an Eric Berry type S at #10 Overall in this Draft if that helps...
