  1. Not trying to be a smart-ass...But I think a better question is do you really think an NFL DC will be dumb enough to greatly change a players role when it resulted in 10 sacks the previous season?
  2. There is... But the Bills already have a couple of them (Woods and SJ)...And being 6-5 with 35" arms, a 37" vertical, and 4.5 speed give Evans a leg up on the competition... I'm not trying to predict Evans will be the next great thing...And I do think he will need time...But I would not be so quick to dismiss 2500 yards and 17 TD's in 2 SEC seasons...The questions concerning Evans are the same questions this board, and the football world, had about another ultra-productive SEC WR two years ago...Alshon Jeffery...Athletically Evans and Jeffery are similar, only Evans is 2" taller...Both are long and snatch everything out of the air...All that matters with Evans is how well he takes to coaching and how hard he works...If he puts in his time, and learns well, just like Jeffery he'll do well in the NFL...And that's a match-up nightmare for opposing Defenses... I think this write up pegged Evans pretty well...You just don't come across players with his size, athletic ability, and the ability to snatch the ball very often...They are very, very, rare... http://thesidelineview.com/scouting-report/mike-evans
  3. I would take that Draft in a heartbeat...
  4. Woods, Goodwin, Stevie...They're not #1's...Not saying the Bills can't get by without a #1...But it would be easier on EJ if they had one...That much I'm 100% certain of...Especially one with a 10 ft catch radius, seeing as though EJ can be less than accurate at times... And it's just as easy on the other side...#4 AJ Green, #6 Julio Jones, #2 - Megatron, #13 Michael Floyd looks pretty good, #22 Demaryius Thomas, #24 Dez Bryant, #10 - Crabtree, #19 Jeremy Macklin, #22 Percy Harvin, #23 Dwayne Bowe...There have been some darn good WR's Drafted in the 1st Round in recent years...Evans is 3 inches taller than Dez Bryant, faster than Dez Bryant, and he's got better hands than Dez Bryant...I don't see any reason with proper development and coaching the kid can't be just as good as Dez Bryant...And Dez Bryant is a legit NFL #1 WR...If Evans comes close to his potential you'll have a Brandon Marshall-type WR...A real, true #1...Is there a chance he bombs? No doubt about it...They don't all make it...But 2500 yds and 17 TD's in only 2 SEC years tells me the kid has a good chance to be a solid NFL WR... You never Draft anyone in the 1st Round worried about failure...You Draft them assuming you can coach them up to reach their potential...You Draft them because your scouts tell you the kid is special...I realize there's risk Drafting Evans at #9, but realistically there's risk Drafting just about any prospect at any position...If the Bills believe Evans is their guy at #9 I'll be thrilled with it...It's a gamble on greatness...No doubt it's a big gamble...But if it pays off we've got one hell of an Offensive weapon for years to come... And btw...I have absolutely no problem with the Bills taking an OT, or even Ebron at #9...I just prefer Evans... They said similar things about Alson Jeffery who, like Evans, also dominated SEC competition...He's done just fine...
  5. Thing is...You're going to get a Woods-type WR if you wait till the 2nd...Not that it's a bad thing...Robert Woods is a very good WR...But he's a #2, and he's probably always going to be a #2...You're not going to get a player with Mike Evans upside at #41...Not saying he's going to reach that upside...Just saying...
  6. I would not be at all surprised to see them come out of the 1st three rounds with a WR, OT, and a TE....Not that they won't go Defense...Just saying I would not be surprised to see an Offensive heavy Draft...
  7. This sucks SO much...
  8. If the Bills are considering Glenn's UFA status with #9 overall then we might as well just pack it in now...IMHO, even if you're bound and determined to take an OT, you have to be assuming Glenn will be here for the foreseeable future...Considering UFA departures two years down the road is basically conceding failure...At least that's how I see it...
  9. In every Draft I'm always 100% open to a trade down if it gets you a 2nd round pick in return, as long as you don't have to go too far down of course...I think with the crazy amount of top talent in this Draft a trade down is even more enticing... But I'm looking at this Draft a little different than others...There are players at the top of this Draft that look to be once in a decade types...And if you feel like you need one of them...well...do it...The depth of this Draft would lead me to be a little more willing to gamble on greatness with my first pick...I think players like Matthews, Lewan, and Martin are going to be good, solid NFL OT's...No doubt about it...But I also think, despite the current hype to the contrary, it does matter some that they will play RT for this team for at least another 2 years...So I'm far more inclined to take Evans at #9 and try to develop him into a true NFL #1 WR...If by some miracle Sammy Watkins falls to the Bills I doubt very much they pass on him...And if they truly believe he's the next Vernon Davis I have no problem with Ebron at #9, though I prefer Evans...I do really like Ebron's make-up...And I believe he has a true desire to be the best...I would imagine that IF the Bills go WR in the 1st round they'll look to go OT at #41 with a player like Morgan Moses or Kouandjio... I expect the Bills to come out of this Draft with a WR, an OT, an OG, and a S minimum...I think they could also Draft another CB, RB, DE, or TE depending on how things fall...I would be surprised if they took a QB, DT, or LB (especially if they believe Ty Powell can back-up Spikes in the middle)...
  10. We'll see who's right in the long run...With all due respect I'll put my admittedly amateur ability to evaluate talent up against yours every day of the week and twice on Sunday... I watched every single bit of Evans Combine drills and most of his games at A&M...He's fine...I'm 100% comfortable with what I've seen of that kid on the field, and in drills...His potential is in the Alshon Jeffery/Brandon Marshall area...Will he reach that? Too many variables at this point to predict...But his size and athletic ability give him an excellent chance... And why are you comparing him to Watkins anyway? They are two completely different animals...You think Megatron cuts like Steve Smith? Watkins and Evans are both great prospects in their own right, in their own unique ways...At 6-5 you're never going to run routes like a 6-0 quick-as-a-cat WR...But lets see who comes down with the jump ball in the back of the end-zone more often...It's all relative... You're soap-boxing against Evans and not considering opposing viewpoints...Kind of like Matt Scott last year...People know football around here...You should consider that more often...
  11. If Evans is really moving up then it's all good for the Bills I guess...I have absolutely no doubt they will take Watkins if he's there at #9 and Evans is gone...So the chances that one of them is there are very, very good...And while Watkins is definitely shorter he does have the ability to play bigger...I agree Evans has the higher ceiling...I honestly don't think the Bills can go wrong with either...What would be REAL interesting is if both were available at #9...I'm guessing they take Watkins, but can you imagine the outcry if they went with Evans?...
  12. There you go... The ability to catch a contested ball in the NFL is becoming more and more necessary...Coverages are tight...It's not the same as the College game and Evans fits what an increasing amount of teams are looking for...
  13. Making the Draft a big weekend event was always the thing to do with my friends as well...It was a two day marathon...Best weekend of the year IMHO... Now it's just...Meh...Three nights...Too drawn out...The 1st Round feels more like a movie premier than the NFL Draft to me... Oh well...
  14. Well...In the meantime... Here's a good read on Evans... http://thesidelineview.com/scouting-report/mike-evans
  15. I think it's going to be a LONG 49 days or so because Evans is my clear preference and I doubt anything is going to change that opinion... This later Draft Day stuff is killing me...
  16. I tried to tell him the same thing a couple days ago...
  17. Donald is probably a top 15-20 pick minimum...He's a good prospect in a Draft full of very good prospects at the top... But I do agree the Bills should look elsewhere...
  18. Why? You do know about Britt right? His rookie season is the last time he played 16 games...2011-2013 in 29 games Britt had a combined 974 yds and 7 TD's... I don't think signing Kenny Britt changes a thing...I'm not sure he even makes the final 53...
  19. It is...He's a very good prospect... That being said, despite the fact that it's not a need in Buffalo, I might be a little more interested in Donald in a normal Draft...But what the OP is forgetting is that this Draft is absolutely loaded at the top with potentially dynamic players at many different positions...In a normal year a guy like Donald would stand out more despite the fact that he's a bit of a tweener...But this year the Bills can have their cake and eat it too...They can get a premium prospect at a need position...And as good as Donald is, he's a 4-3 DT...A one-gap maniac...I bet Lovie Smith absolutely drools when he watches Donald because he's a perfect fit for Lovie's D...He's a 290 lb version of Sapp...Super quick up the field...The Bills have not one, but two guys who already do the same thing really well... Anyway...I'm pretty much fundamentally against stockpiling talent at one position...To me it's just not team building...In this case it would be DT building...But that's just my philosophy...I realize others see it differently...
  20. Agreed...I don't think Evans is plug-and-play whatsoever...Going to take the patience a lot of Bills fans don't have the stomach for...But he should be able to contribute in small ways in the meantime...Hopefully in the red one...
  21. It's basically the same garbage Alshon Jeffery went through...Ignore the ridiculous production, huge frame, long arms, good vertical, and the fact that he basically catches everything thrown his way...Lets concentrate on the fact that he's not perfect, and does not get 5 yards of separation on every route...Even though he's only 20 years old, has not received one single day of NFL coaching, and played with the most unorthodox College QB most folks have ever seen...Not to mention the fact that NFL WR's are going to be covered by the best in the business, so they need to be able to catch the ball while being closely covered anyway...I told folks two years ago the ability to catch the ball while closely covered would make Jeffery a Pro Bowl WR...I see that same ability in Evans... I'm not even saying Evans is a sure thing...I did think Jeffery was though...And I think I was right about that...I do think Evans has all the tools he needs to be very, very special in the NFL...I think his upside is in the Brandon Marshall area, and the Bills could REALLY use a WR like that...So to me at least Evans is 100% worth the gamble...Because it's a gamble on greatness...Not just goodness...
  22. I think another mid-round safety is very likely this year...And if this Draft is truly as deep as some say it is we may be able to get a real nice prospect as late as the 4th or 5th round...
  23. No offense...But where does this "stiff" stuff come from with Evans...I watched every drill he did at the Combine...at least every drill they televised...and that kid looked smooth enough to me...Seems to have pretty nice body control for a 6-5 WR...He ran that WR gauntlet at the Combine like he owned it...Granted this is just to my untrained eye...But I was very impressed when I watched him live at Indy... And Bryant has more upside? More upside than a 20 year old 6-5 WR who had 2500 yds and 17 TD's in only 2 years in the SEC? http://www.buccaneers.com/multimedia/videos/NFL-Combine-WR-Mike-Evans/80384a32-0b0c-43e0-af4a-774df3db0065
  24. Amaro is a really interesting prospect...I mean...How many 6-5-260 TE's have 106 receptions in one College season? That's nuts! I realize Amaro was not a traditional TE at Tech, and they rarely asked him to block...I also realize he's not going blow by anyone with his 4.68 (Pro Day) speed...But he gets open, and obviously catches the ball when it's thrown to him...I think Amaro is kind of the poor mans Eric Ebron in this Draft...Not quite as fast, not quite as athletic as Ebron...But a slot TE-type who's got a big body and can create some match-up issues for Defenses...I think Amaro is an option at #41 if the Bills don't Draft Ebron in the 1st...I don't see why Amaro can't be a real nice piece to a complete Offense...I think he'll contribute...
