  1. Another good point... Not sure if this article has been linked yet...But there's always two sides to every story... http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-10-17/sports/ct-spt-1018-bears-pompei-chicago--20121018_1_chris-williams-tackle-j-marcus-webb
  2. I'm a PFF fan...But I agree with this take 100%...No way the Bills do not do their due diligence then some... Here's the way I view this signing...The Bills very much like Williams as a run blocking LG, and they feel through coaching they can improve his pass blocking...They see him as a vastly superior size/athleticism package to what they currently have at LG, and they do not want to Draft an OG high in 2014...They also like the fact that Williams is capable of swinging out to OT if injuries hit there... Now...The Bills could be completely wrong about Williams...His resume thus-far is clearly under-impressive...I think if you hooked the Bills evaluators up to a lie-detector they would likely tell you Williams has to get better, especially in pass-pro...But the Bills HC is an ex NFL O-lineman, and ex NFL O-line coach...So you have to guess that if there is a single UFA the Bills leaned on their HC to evaluate, it HAD to be Williams...Marrone obviously sees something in the guy he believes will blossom in his system...We'll see if he's right...And while the contract may seem a lot based on how others evaluate Williams, it's still not a big deal in NFL terms...And it won't cost the Bills much to get out of it early if that's the way this thing goes...It was a calculated risk based on the Bills belief in the ability of their coaches to teach, and the thought that Williams was a specific fit for what they want to do...
  3. Bulldog has it right...Of course he may have stole it from my tweet to Schopp... But Pepper Johnson is the key here...No way Spikes gets close to that building without getting an endorsement, and a full explanation of all events, from Johnson...Anyone think Johnson is going to jeopardize his rep in a brand new job by lying for Spikes? No way...Schopp is kind of ignoring that...And the fact that Belichick does not have the type of personality, or tolerance, that is fit for every human being on the earth...I'm not saying Spikes is a choir boy either...Dude has an edge and he's definitely a bit nuts...But I don't think it's the type of thing that would get in the way of him making the Bills a better team on Defense...
  4. Kelly was not puking because he was hungover...He had butterflies and puked before every game...Something he always did...
  5. I think Summers would stay at FB and Dixon would be the 3rd RB...Marrone wants a big back to complement CJ and Freddie...Not to say Dixon won't get snaps at FB every now and again...
  6. Against the pass you would be mostly correct...But he's a monster vs the run, and some folks believe he's among the best in the league in that area...
  7. Ya...I knew it was too late... But I was going to say it anyway...Listen to the interview if you get the chance and I think you'll hear it too...
  8. I'm going to tell y'all this and of course no one will believe me now...But I'm going to write it anyway... This morning when I was listening to Whaley on WGR...when they asked him about who was going to play ILB...it was obvious Whaley hesitated and stumbled with his reply...I immediately thought that was interesting...I swear it sounded to me like Whaley was hiding something and the very first thing I thought of was Spikes...it was just the way he answered it...For that split second he sounded like he had been caught off guard and was asking himself..."Do they know Spikes is coming? How do they know?...No...they can't know..." Just thought that was interesting...
  9. Ha!!! Confirmed!!! Twitter rules!!!!
  10. That's what I was thinking!!! It passes my reliability requirements with flying colors...
  11. Oh goodness... Well...No matter how this plays out it will now have it's place in TBD history...Not sure itf that's a good thing or a bad thing...
  12. I was not trying to minimize what you said...Just trying to point out in NE at least they love the guy...So he can't be all that bad... Players say stuff all the time...Especially in the heat of the moment...Spikes can be a handful no question...He's different and he likes to do things his way...He seemed to be a big time community guy in NE...I don't think the guy is Brian Cox...His position coach from NE is here now...I'm sure that could swing his opinion a bit...He would choose to come here IF it's his best opportunity, and IF the price is right...Not to mention it would give him the best chance to get back at Belichick... We're talking about PFF's #2 ILB vs the run in the entire NFL...I understand he's not the best LB in coverage and that's why he's not signed yet...Which is going to push his price down...If the Bills can get him at a bargain rate I don't see why fences can't be mended...He made a couple dumb comments about the city...Do we really want to get ruffled feathers over a guy making a couple jokes about the city of Buffalo? Especially if he can help The Bills win football games? If so, we better start making a list of people who have made smartass comments about the city...this could take a while... Exactly...He fits a very specific need for this team and he may just be the most logical and affordable way to fill that need...That's all there is to it...
  13. He did... But I'll say this much about the guy...If you look at his twitter account it is absolutely littered with Pats fans who loved the guy and hate seeing him go...He obviously made a mark there through his play...And no one questions his effectiveness and instincts vs. the run...The guy is pretty much exactly what the Bills need as the last piece of this puzzle they are trying to put together on Defense...With Rivers, Spikes, and Alonso as base down LB's the run D would be sick...
  14. Well...He had Ayers rated the highest DE in that Draft...He liked him a lot no question...But he came no where near comparing him to LT...So let's not get carried away... And while Ayers has not lived up to Mayock's hype, he has been a steady contributor to the Broncos D over the years...PFF had him grading out at a +8.1 in 2013...So he's not exactly a bust... Sorry...I just get frustrated with over-exaggerations....
  15. That's crazy...The 2nd best QB on that list is Schaub...I think Byrd is a good player...But that list is a QB train-wreck...
  16. This ^^^ Thread should have ended there...
  17. OK...I thought you were insinuating that the deal may not have been the 10,10,10, but instead an average of 7.5 over the first three...I think no matter how it was constructed an average of 7.5 was never going to get Byrd and I sure as heck hope the Bills understood that...If they didn't then they're clueless...
  18. I don't disagree that the money seems a bit much...But lets face the facts we all seem to want to sweep under the rug at times...The Bills are going to have to overpay a bit until they can prove they are a Playoff contending team...That's just the way it is...It sucks...But it is what it is...
  19. Well...IF...and that's a capital IF as well ( )...The Bills were only offering an average of $7.5, especially over the first three years, than no one including the Bills should be surprised that Byrd walked...Because that was never going to get it done...
  20. The 28 million is "guarantees" not signing bonus...The SB is only $11 million...For the life of me I still don't understand the whole thing...All I can gather so far is guarantees are not necessarily guaranteed money the way a SB is... And to think I do nothing but math for a living...
  21. The only reason I can think of not wanting a front loaded deal is it lessens the chance of the player getting one more big payday if he plays really well...If it's a 6 year deal and the last three years are low salary years there's little chace he'll ever see Free Agency again... I don't think there's any doubt the Saints are going to have to look at Byrd's deal again after the third year the way it's constructed...Maybe that's what Parker wants... That's all I've got...
  22. Probably shut down one opposing WR like he does most games...
