Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft
KOKBILLS replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ideal? OK... I think ideal...not necessarily realistic...but ideal... would look more like... 19. Chris Jones DT 49. Noah Spence DE 80. Braxton Miller WR 117. Cardale Jones QB 139. Rashard Robinson CB Now that's what I think would be ideal... -
Guess who we drafted 5 picks ahead of Tom Brady?

Bills enamored with Cardale Jones?
KOKBILLS replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess anything is possible...But that would shock me... -
I like Rankins...But I'm all-but assuming he's gone... Jones is my guy and I've already gone to the bank with that... I also like Vernon Butler a lot for Rex's scheme...
-
I think you have a point...I'm very interested to see if this trend continues this year...I like both Alabama DT's...But I think there are a couple DT's who will be better Pro's that could certainly be Drafted after Robinson and Reed... I also like Ragland...But I definitely don't #19-overall-like-him...We'll see...

Bills enamored with Cardale Jones?
KOKBILLS replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No...I was not...But thanks for telling me what I thought...At my age I can always use a refresher... I'm being a realist...I understand the NFL Draft...I understand how QB's are evaluated and to a great extent over-valued...As far as accuracy goes Jones meets the threshold regardless because in his short time he completed almost 62% of his passes...Not really sure why you don't think he could improve by playing more, or playing in a system that fits his skills better...But whatever...I'm not saying one single thing about how Jones will turn out...I'm not saying he's going to be a star...I'm not even saying he's going to be in the league in 4 years...And I have no idea why making the statement that he would have been a 1st Round pick, even #1 overall, had he gone to FSU (I chose FSU for a reason...It's a Pro style Offense that has seen 3 QB's Drafted in the 1st round recently including a #1 overall) seems to irritate you so much seeing as though both EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder were 1st round picks...And Jones easily has as much ability as those two...You seem angry about it... I am however saying you don't get it...And you don't get why he makes sense in the 3rd or later...And that's cool...So I really don't see why this discussion needs to continue... -
It can get testy right?...haha I totally agree with the fall-off at the LB position...I really do...But part of my theory on this Draft is coming from really looking back at Rex in NY and what his preferences were concerning premium Draft picks...I know he's not the final say...But Rex is such a HUGE voice in that room...And IMHO this year just coincidentally lines up really well with players that I have a feeling Rex is going to be jumping up and down for...And I think those players are D-linemen who have versatility, and OLB's like Correa or Fackrell...I guess the 1st round exception would be Floyd if they REALLY think he can be a difference maker rushing the passer... Right now...Rex knows he has the Brown's and Manny Lawson minimum...The vast majority of Downs the Bills will play 3 true LB's or less...But I see HUGE holes on that D-front...They desperately need to replace Mario with a 5-technique minimum...But I think a lot of these possible prospects at #19 have even more positional versatility...Some can even play NT...And at #49 I think they will look for the OLB/Pass Rush type to play opposite of Hughes...I think if the Bills can fill those two holes this D can take a massive jump in 2016...

The Comp Pick you mean?

Right...Paxton Lynch is a potential 1st Rd Pick...Wentz is going #2...But Jones would not be a 1st Round pick if he started three years at Ohio St while winning a National Championship?...OK... QB's get pushed up...It's the nature of the beast...And athletically he is at the very top in certain categories...Everyone knows the situation at OSU and what happened...He was not a fit...I'll say this much...If he played at FSU for three years he might go #1 overall... -

I think some folks are slightly missing the point with Jones... With the extraordinarily high rate of failure QB's drafted after the 2nd round have had, if you're going to take a guy in the 3rd or later, it might as well be a guy with all the physical tools and a rocket arm... The truth is the chances of getting the right guy are slim...But with a kid like Jones you really don't have to tweak much physically...You just have to coach him up and hope he catches on...If he doesn't, it's not like it's going to be a big surprise...But the truth is had he started 3 full years at Ohio St he more than likely would be a 1st Round pick...Right or wrong...So if you're going to do it...Why not do it with the QB that has the most upside?...Work him hard and see if you get lucky... -
I really like the Round 1 and 2 combo there...My personal preference is Jones and Correa or Fackrell...I'm OK with either...

Thanks for that Sir...I'm going to listen in...I have to admit I've been a little less impressed with Mayock this year than I normally am...I can't put my finger on it...Maybe I just feel he's gotten too power-drunk off the Belichick teat... -
Agreed...I think he's a really neat piece if you have a plan for him...But if he's going to go in the Top 50 I'm more than willing to let another team figure that out...

I'm unsure if the Bills know what they are doing...However I have an unhealthy abundance of confidence that I know what I'm doing... I'm interested in who these duds are because no matter what there is going to be one heck of a good D-lineman available at #19...It literally does not matter how this Draft falls...There will be a premium D-lineman available that fits Rex's scheme much better than Mario did...It's pretty much a lock...Whether it's Robinson, Reed, Butler, Jones, Rankins, Nkemdiche (assuming he's not taken off their board)...One of them will be there...And the Bills are in desperate need of that 3rd D-lineman that can play up and down the line in any front...Not to mention there's at least an outside shot that Shaq Lawson will be there...Remember Rex had Richardson and Wilkerson in NY...Also remember a key piece to the Bills D-line is 32 years old coming off a knee injury... I don't mean for this to be a knock on Alexander...It's certainly not meant to be...And I recognize you see something special in the kid...But I feel the same way about that possible pick as I did when the Bills Drafted CJ Spiller while Lynch and Jackson were still on the roster and in their prime...I don't see it as wise team-building when you have BIG needs elsewhere that can be filled by prospects with similar or better grades... Yes! I would double love it!!! -

You would love it? I gotta ask why? Especially considering this is a less-than-great CB class and there is sure to be excellent D-Line prospects available at #19...Guys that would play almost every down...You would be Drafting a guy that would be competing for no more than the Nickel Back position at #19...And even at Nickel he would have serious competition...It literally makes no sense unless they are 100% convinced Gilmore is gone...And even then you're basically sitting #19 for a year...It's not exactly premium roster building... I'm one of the stroke guys... I don't hate the Trade Down...Or the players in the 2nd...I REALLY like Fackrell...But no D-line the whole draft? Is anyone aware we basically have 3 defensive Linemen total and one is 32 years old coming off a knee injury? And no way Rashard Robinson lasts till #218... -
It's what I do...

Using Analytics to find a pass rusher for Bills in draft
KOKBILLS replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good stuff...I heard this guy on Ross Tuckers Podcast...Very interesting... -
Ragland is a good player...Unquestionably...But the jump is steep...And the Bills already have a player that is similar to Ragland in Preston Brown...And before anyone gets crazy I know Ragland is the better prospect...He'll probably be a better pro...But in Rex's Defense...heck in the NFL period...the vast majority of downs there is only going to be one "inside" LB on the field at a time... And raw numbers matter when you are comparing him against the 3 to 4 players that the Bills will likely be looking at when their pick comes around at #19...I just don't think he's going to stack up against a D-lineman who will be in there on most downs with Dareus and KW...And the top of this Draft is loaded with those kind of D-linemen...LB is a need...But the last thing you want to do is pass on a better player...in another area of need btw (unless of course you ignore all those downs Mario Williams played last year)... I certainly don't want to sound negative about Ragland...Or Lee...Floyd for that matter...But what I see from all of them are more 1-2 down players in this Defense...In a normal Draft year I honestly would be fine with that...Because the Bills do desperately need LB depth...But in this Draft you have D-linemen that have legit Pro Bowl potential...You have guys who are potential monsters that...next to Dareus...would drastically change this Defense on all 3 downs...And IF it comes down to BPA at #19 I just can't see a scenario where any of these LB's...Ragland included...will be better than one of the many D-linemen available...
