About 7 years ago, one of the contracts with the employer I had was going in to a regional bank branches, and replacing the plasma TV's (42" inch) they had in the lobby with newer LED TV's, because the video player they were using to display ads on the TV's, had newer ads with a resolution that the older plasma TV's could not handle. We were told instead of shipping the plasmas back to the main bank office, just dispose of them however we could, legally. I gave away so many to family and friends that by the end I couldn't give them away. I'd take them to Best Buy for recycling, the desk person would ask if there was anything wrong, and I'd just say, nope, and that once it left my possession, if an employee wanted it, as far as I was concerned, they could take it.

I had a 27" tube TV (Philips Magnavox) that lasted over 20 years before I donated it. Had Picture-in-picture also, I wish newer TV's still offered it. When I bought my current TV, a Sharp 65" with built in Roku, over 6 years ago, I had read that TLC made the displays for Sharp, and there were lots of reports of TLC display's failing after 1 year. So I bought the extended warranty just in case. Must be they put more quality control in the higher end TV's, have not had any issues with the display.

Same with me and my wife. We were even remarking how he should step down like Benedict did.
