  1. Ahh, good point - my feelings may change if we had to take trains here in Minnesota. I know what you mean about the dryness too -- my eyes are always dry regardless of the season, but my nose and throat get really dry around this time of the year. I think I'm going to buy a humidifier and see if that helps.
  2. I disagree - I prefer the cold over the snow because I don't have to be outside shoveling the cold...
  3. We named our dog Buzzy -- after the pizza/wing place in Niagara Falls. Not exactly Bills related, but at least WNY related. Dog: http://www.flickr.co...57624152136993/ Restaurant: http://www.buzzyspizza.com/
  4. It's funny that this stereotype is still in effect, even though it's nowhere near true anymore....
  5. "Should it become law, online poker sites wishing to operate in the US would be forced to obtain a five-year operating license and pay 20% tax on all deposits." 20% on deposits? Really??? Yeah, whatever.
  6. The procedures were allegedly the same - the images were never to be stored/printed/etc. They said the same thing TSA said. TSA has never confirmed that. This is true for pat-downs, but there's no information on the porno-vision scanners.
  7. That's what they say, but it's not true. Read some of the links in this thread. "As reported by Declan McCullagh of CNET at the time, “The U.S. Marshals Service admitted this week that it had surreptitiously saved tens of thousands of images recorded with a millimeter wave system at the security checkpoint of a single Florida courthouse.” The images EPIC obtained were accompanied by a letter (PDF), in which William Bordley, an associate general counsel with the Marshals Service, admits that “approximately 35,314 images…have been stored on the Brijot Gen2 machine” used in the Orlando, Fla. federal courthouse."
  8. So you have no problem with what happened (assuming it really happened)?
  9. I've read similar articles before. I've been a subscriber to CRYPTO-GRAM (Bruce Schneier's monthly mailing) for years. Keep in mind that some people on this board have said that since Bruce's background is in cryptography, he knows nothing about "real" security. Good article though!

  11. I'm still shocked some people think that these "porn-o-vision" scanners are ok. Don't people realize this is purely security theater and offers no additional security (but costs tax payers millions)? I just got back from my overseas vacation (AWESOME!), and when I went through security in Atlanta, the porno scanners were in place but only the regular metal detectors were activated. I thought there may have been an injunction filed against their use. I see there was, but I can't tell if that's why they were disabled or not. http://markcrispinmi...-body-scanners/ http://www.prisonplanet.com/leaked-body-scanner-images-do-not-show-the-whole-picture.html (possibly NSFW - even though they're images of travelers going through the machines...)
  12. It's actually Savatage. They were a great band and after their first few releases focused mainly on concept albums -- Streets: A Rock Opera, Dead Winter Dead (where the song Sarajevo came from), Poets and Madmen, and Wake of Wagellan are all GREAT albums. They did TSO the year after Dead Winter Dead, and then started touring sometime after that. They've since ditched Savatage since TSO is where the money is. Hard to blame them I guess. Yes, some of the songs are modified from classical music but nowhere near all of it. The members of TSO are all very musically talented. You don't have to like them, but to say that there's nothing original there is a a big load of hyperbole.
  13. I'm rooting for Urbik -- he's from the town where I live, and my neighbors know him and his family. I've never met him, but they say he's a good kid. Did I read that he got hurt against the Vikings?

  16. Yeah, two punts out at the 12 yard line yesterday really sucks.
  17. Here's the link for those who want to use a browser: http://www.twobillsdrive.com/fan_zone/chat/ Alternatively, you can download an IRC client - but if you have that, you probably already know how to connect.
  18. "In fact, she said she was promoted and given raises eight times in 13 years. The 43-year-old had risen to the top and had become an Assistant Executive Director, but claims she couldn't advance any further because her managers said she was "too sensual."." If she was fired because of her boobs, how do you explain 8 promotions in 13 years? She sounds like she believes she's entitled to CEO or something. "Why haven't I had another promotion? It's been 19 months, I'm due!" "She complained last spring but was reprimanded. She complained again last fall and was fired the next day." This says it all. She complained, was told not to, complained again, and was fired. Sounds consistent to me.
  19. You don't even need to let it mellow. There's a drain in the shower for a reason.
  20. I didn't say that it NEVER snows here... Just that it doesn't snow anywhere near as much as WNY. Also, guess what? It was 60 in MN a few days ago too -- so WNY will probably get hit with this storm in a day or two.. According to Wikipedia: The average annual snowfall in the Twin Cities is 45.3 inches (115.1 cm), with an average of 100 days per year with at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) of snow cover. The most snow was the Twin Cities has officially seen during one winter was in 1983–1984 with 98.4 inches (250 cm), and the least was in 1930–1931 with 14.2 inches (36.1 cm). Compare that to Buffalo: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/buf/climate/buf_snow00s.php I'd say the Twin Cities gets quite a bit less, considering our highest snowfall all-time is lower than seven of the last nine years in Buffalo.
  21. I don't see it there... I see that they reported on the drivers being released, but not a working piece of software that uses the drivers. So take THAT /.!

  23. True story - my grandparents and mother (only a few years old at the time) were on the Andrea Doria from Italy on the voyage right before the accident.
