  1. I always thought Bettis was very overrated. He had a long career, but was never really a superstar IMHO. Even looking at his stats, they're very average. He had a couple of good years, and that's about it. Even years when he had a lot of yards weren't that impressive. For example. he had 1300 yards in in 2000, but averaged only 3.6/carry. That's not really a good season, it just means he was durable. Marshall Faulk had three seasons with an average over 5. Bettis had four seasons with an average over 4 (Faulk had 9 - and played for a year less). Davis was an excellent back but put me in the "didn't play enough" camp. Andre Reed definitely deserves to get in, but Cris Carter will probably make it due to his TV appearances.
  2. I disagree. The Seahawks won their division fair and square and deserved a home playoff game. It's not he first time a team with a better wildcard record has had an away game. If the Seahawks were 11-5, would they 'deserve" a home game? Division winners should always have one home game, no question about it. Doesn't matter what their record is, IMHO.
  3. Spend a few bucks and get an Angies List membership (http://www.angieslist.com). When I was finishing my basement a few years ago, I was looking for local contractors and every time I called one for a quote, they would be late, not come at all, or give outrageous quotes. I bought Angies List, looked for the highest rated ones, and I *never* had a problem from then on. Everyone arrived when they said they would (or called if they were going to be a little late), and the work was all done perfectly. We now keep the membership in case we need emergency home repairs. Worked great when the ignition on our furnace went out a couple of years back, and again when the garage door spring broke. Highly recommended!
  4. Pffft, you should have bought this one: http://www.neowin.net/news/3d-printer-used-to-create-a-real-concert-flute
  5. That was too good to not write a story about! Should be posted on Neowin.net sometime later tonight.
  6. Is there an analogy in there somewhere....?
  7. Tell that to my wife who went to one of the top business schools in the country for her MBA just because she wanted to prove she could do it. (although I wish she'd use it to get a higher paying job, I really do! ).
  8. I don't think so.... Maybe I have no heart?!?!
  9. Yeah, except why couldn't he complete his degree anyway...? Especially if there's a lockout. I suppose if he really wants to finish by 2012, that makes sense. I just don't understand why he wouldn't do it slowly or go back after. To each his own though. Not going to begrudge a guy for getting his education (even though we all know football players who are stars for their school and getting scholarships don't care about education, right? ).
  10. That sounds weird.... I can't feel my heart beating normally, can't imagine what skipping would feel like...
  11. You do seem to value your own opinion over actual numbers.
  12. Spiller - 14.6 average (34 long) on 12 returns, 8 fair catches Parrish - 10.9 average (33 long) on 12 returns, 7 fair catches Spiller's average would've put him 3rd in the NFL if he had enough returns. I think it's safe to say he's a better punt returner than Parrish (or at least was this year).
  13. Agreed, they didn't step it up like they should have -- but they weren't playing against "3rd stringers" either like people like to say.
  14. Exactly. Plus, Pittsburgh kept their starting OL in most of the game. Notice the article also mentions an unknown guy named James Harrison.. They were pretty stacked.
  15. But again, NOBODY on this board knows what he's looking for or what he was offered. Everyone (including myself) is making guesses, nothing more.
  16. Mailed it in...? Like when he forced a fumble just as the guy crossed the goal line? Yeah, he's no star. But he hardly sucks. He was "only" paid $2.8M for this season, according to Fox Sports: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/donte-whitner/401237 I wouldn't mind seeing him back. Not for $10M/year, obviously, but for $4M? Sure.
  17. So..... What's the status?
  18. I like how you just make up 30 hours. You may be right, but I doubt it's anywhere near that high most of the year. During the season maybe, but what about the other half? So I think $20-$30/hr is probably pretty accurate. I argue my opinion with numbers, you argue with insults. Nicely played.
  19. Guess what - every employee gives back to the company more than they get from it. Except maybe government employees.... Otherwise the company wouldn't exist! You apparently don't have a very high opinion of education based on your last comment I quoted. I say an education is invaluable - you can't put a price tag on it. But if you try to, it looks like it's worth about $900,000. "The report titled "The Big Payoff: Educational Attainment and Synthetic Estimates of Work-Life Earnings" (.pdf) reveals that over an adult's working life, high school graduates can expect, on average, to earn $1.2 million; those with a bachelor's degree, $2.1 million; and people with a master's degree, $2.5 million." http://usgovinfo.abo...andearnings.htm So these student athletes are (potentially) getting $900,000+tuition+room+board. And that's not good enough?
  20. And your point is....? Either tuition is worth it or not. Nobody's forcing anybody to go to college, and you can get some cheap local colleges. If you choose to go to an expensive school, it must be because you thought it was worth the extra cost - and thus if it takes you 20 years to pay it off, you made that choice. Right?
  21. Great - pay them for working 15 hours a week and make them pay for their own tuition, room, and board then. I can't believe that people here think that getting $20k+/year or more for playing college ball is "so unfair" and that the NCAA is screwing them over.
  22. I sure would've liked to have had a full ride... Instead I worked 30-50 hours a week while going to school fulltime. It's not the school's fault that some of the students don't care about their education, but don't say that they're not being offered anything useful. At the University of Minnesota, there were a couple of football players in my physics classes. Don't lump all of the athletes together as being dumb. They can do it if they want to.
  23. It's funny that folks here keep increasing that number. When the tweets first started, it was $5M+. Then it went up to $6M+. Now people are saying $7M+. And I don't think there has been any word on what he's REALLY asking for, it's just people making stuff up as they go. Kinda funny. But also typical.
  24. Everybody in Green Bay already knew he was a selfish, sleazy, self-absorbed jerk. But they didn't care, he's a great athlete. A few years ago, the Packers played a preseason game in Buffalo. Late in the 4th quarter, a bunch of kids went down to the first row and were asking Favre to turn around so they could get a picture. Most of these kids were Packers fans, wearing Favre jerseys. He refused to turn around, and after a few minutes called his OL over to form a wall around him so that nobody could see him from the stands anymore. This was a freak'n preseason game, and he wasn't helping his teammates or anything, he was just standing around joking. What a jerk.
  25. At least the Gophers didn't lose!
