FYI, the $10 or $20 off per month for six months is a standard discount and can be applied on top of the Sunday Ticket discount. Every year or two, DTV is authorized to give most customers some sort of discount. So if someone calls and they offer that deal, you should be able to accept it and still call back once they work out their ST deals. Or at least that's how it's worked in the past. DTV also gives customer loyalty bonuses for every anniversary. They gave me three months of Showtime (and all related channels) for free and will cancel it after the time is up unless I call. Kinda cool.

I wrote my first product review as editor of Neowin.net. The product is called "iTwin." You plug one into one PC and another into a second PC, and it lets you share files between them from anywhere on the 'net. I wouldn't mind some extra exposure so I can get more review opportunities, so I'd really appreciate it if you share the link with others via social media or whatever. http://www.neowin.net/news/review-itwin-usb-drive-a-dropbox-replacement I'm probably going to be doing a product giveaway in a week or so (waiting for confirmation from iTwin that I'm allowed to), so will keep everyone posted if that goes through.

Thank you for all your well wishes and prayers...

I had no idea what you were going through. I'm really sorry to hear that and you have my thoughts and prayers. -
This is GREAT news! Now when the aliens invade us to take our water, we can show them this new place that has tons more water and they'll leave us alone!
-
If that's all that happened, I'd agree with you. But he was acting that way for a good 4-5 minutes! That's a tantrum.
-
Nope, I didn't mix it up. The second article (where the kid gives the other kid a baseball) was referencing the first article (where the kid was having a tantrum for not getting a ball) and said we can't expect kids to behave.
-
There's a huge difference between being pouting and throwing a temper tantrum. He was clearly doing the latter with his constant huffing and puffing and crossing his arms being all pissed off. The kid was being a brat, and a well behaved child would never act like that. In this country we don't give kids enough credit. This feeds into the "let them do whatever they want" mentality. When my wife and I were in London in 2002, those kids were all VERY well behaved. They were taking in culture in the museums, having respectful fun in the wax museum, etc. Fast forward to our trip to Washington, DC, and all of the kids (same age range) were being obnoxious twits. I firmly believe that it's a cultural thing; many parents put their kids on a pedestal and it shows.
-
Nope, I don't. But I have friends with kids and those kids don't act like brats when they don't get their way. I venture to guess that most people on this board weren't able to get away with acting like that either when they were kids.
-
Cool story, but the article itself is crap: "hat sort of criticism is ridiculous, of course, because you can hardly expect a child of that age to have control of his emotions or any perspective beyond that exciting — and ultimately, disappointing —moment." Really? We can't expect our children to not act like spoiled brats? Gimme a break.

Anyone see this? Kid pouts because the ball didn't come to him. Should the woman have given the kid the ball, just because he was pouting about it? http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=17080537&topic_id&c_id=sf&tcid=fb_video_17080537&v=3 Of course the station sent the kid and dad a ball anyway. Morale of the story: Pout to get your way.

Does anybody have NFL Sunday Ticket to go?
Fezmid replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've never watched the games on a TV - when I stream it, it's always been to a nice 17" or 24" monitor. I blow it up to full screen and it looks nice. Not sure what it would look like on a larger screen though. -

That's a good point about week 1 -- since DirecTV usually gives that week away to everyone for free, everyone is online trying it out and they can't handle it. Not sure why they insist on providing it every year to everyone. -

I had it last year and used it a couple of times when I was at the in-laws. They have crappy broadband because they live in the middle of nowhere but I was able to watch the games just fine. Wireless should be fine for you as well since broadband is generally MUCH slower than your in-house wireless network will be. -
I was trying to figure out how a stadium that big could only seat ~45,000 people....

It'd make golf more exciting if the competitors could dive in front of the ball or tackle the golfer at the knees.
-
Oh, I thought that WAS a penalty shot.... Shows how much I know about the sport.
-
I noticed a big difference between hockey and soccer. In hockey when you trip someone who has a breakaway, that person gets a penalty shot, one on one with the goalie. In soccer when you do that, the entire team gets to line up in front of the goal to block the shot. In that case, why wouldn't you ALWAYS tackle someone like that???

And this is why I don't understand people who don't pull permits. Yeah, it sucks to pay for them and yeah it sucks if your property tax goes up a bit. But in the long run, it'll suck a lot more to have a fire and the insurance adjuster says, "Sorry, it might've been caused by this new outlet so we're not paying you."

What do you Angelinos have planned for the weekend?

I couldn't name them ALL! That song is based off of a famous painting of some sort from what I read before.

Republicans a little bit worried in Wisconsin?
Fezmid replied to pBills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You're taking that out of context. it has no direct impact on the budget, of the state. However it's definitely required to allow the LOCAL government to control their costs. Why do you think all of the local unions were forcing through new contracts before the budget went live? Where do you think that money comes from? LOCAL GOVERNMENT. I'd be pretty surprised if the democrats manage to make any inroads. Heck, they may even lose a seat themselves. I remember reading people like you saying Prosser was going to go down in a ball of fire... Yet here he is for another ten year term. -

These "morons" were telling the truth -- while the incumbents were busy doing their jobs in Madison, the upstarts were already campaigning. So the extra month gives BOTH SIDES the time to campaign properly instead of giving only one side time to campaign. I don't see the problem with that. I'm glad you're happy with the 6 for 6 results now, because that won't happen next month. A shill in District 10 got 46% of the votes! In addition, not a single politician "demonized" the union during the process. The unions were the only ones saying, "Stop demonizing us!" or "Stop attacking the middle class!" The government was just saying, "We have to balance the budget." -
I'm probably going to do the opposite - keep streaming, ditch the disk. I find that I'll just buy movies I want to watch, but I like streaming stuff from time to time (that's how I found the hilarious show Archer, for example). Current customers don't have to worry about it until September.

With 79% of the precincts reporting, Shelly Moore only has a 54-46% lead in the primary... Against a candidate who literally raised roughly $1,200 and didn't campaign at all... Interesting. You can say, "it's because anyone can vote!" but then why aren't you seeing the same close races in any of the other primaries? It's because we don't want Moore in this district. We'll see if that holds up next month when the real election occurs and more people vote.
