Republicans a little bit worried in Wisconsin?
Fezmid replied to pBills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
http://forums.twobil...31407-i-did-it/ If the rules are anyone can vote in any primary, what's the issue? It's no different than the low bar for a recall in WI -- 25% of people who voted in an election need to sign a petition? No wrongdoing needed? Ridiculous. I'd be shocked if Moore didn't win the primary. I'll also be shocked if Moore wins the election. This audio is from my district, and this is the same district that voted for Prosser just a couple of months ago... Nothing's really changed since then (except WI has more jobs now than before). -
I'm a big fan of Nightwish. Female vocals too. I'm also a huge fan of Shadow Gallery -- especially the album Tyranny and Room V. http://www.shadowgal..._id=1&Itemid=76 Here's a song from Room V (ignore the video, has nothing to do with the song): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I37J_3Qa71E And then there's always Dream Theater, especially Scenes from a Memory.

Dick's out... (twss) Not really a spoiler since it's for reasons outside of the game itself, although nobody knows why yet. http://www.tmz.com/2...ed-off-missing/

I turned it on for a minute at the beginning. It's STILL not in HD? C'mon, CBS, get with the program.

Here's a pretty cool site that I haven't heard many people talking about yet: http://www.criticker.com/ Here's a review of the service: http://www.neowin.net/news/review-criticker-and-their-awesome-film-rating-predictions I know there's a lot of movie buffs on the site (AJ, Rico), so I'm sure people will enjoy this.

Californian's online purchases to be taxed
Fezmid replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
They're not ignoring the new law -- they simply fired all of the people who were part of their referral program that worked in California. The Supreme Court already ruled years ago that you don't have to collect sales tax if you don't have a physical presence in the state. All California did was lose roughly $150M-$200M in income tax from the various referral/advertising companies that were based in the state. -
You can't make up stuff like this

I think you're making a joke, but you might not be far off... When we were in Cairo last year, you had to tip the attendant before getting any TP. We were told it was because there weren't many jobs and people needed to make money any way they could. Even when there were signs (in the museum, for example) saying that tipping was not allowed -- you HAD to tip if you wanted any TP. Sad. -
It asks who do you THINK will enter, so you're not actually voting for who WILL enter...

Californian's online purchases to be taxed
Fezmid replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
They have no physical presence in California or New York; the states are saying that referral programs count as a "physical presence" which is ridiculous. The Texas thing was different -- I can see how the clearinghouse could be thought of a physical presence and I admit I don't know why Amazon says that it doesn't. -
Californian's online purchases to be taxed
Fezmid replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
As stated above, a sales tax is supposed to be used to help provide services to those in the area. A store in San Francisco collects and pays sales tax because they get police and fire protection, roads maintenance leading to their business, and the like. Amazon gets none of these benefits. Yes, they indirectly use the roads to get the products to the customers - but that's why FedEx and UPS collect sales tax on their services. I also find it interesting that you state online retailers have huge advantages already - almost like they shouldn't. -

Discussion going on here as well: http://www.neowin.net/news/california-is-the-latest-state-to-tax-amazoncom-purchases -
I made a similar comment to my wife a few months ago. I said, "We should just split the country in two." Her response? "That won't work because all of the 'rich' people will go to one side." I replied, "Exactly."

Have you tried hardwiring your laptop to the router for the initial setup? That's usually required (or at least was a few years ago).

Rochester Woman Arrested for Taping Cops,Then harass her supporters
Fezmid replied to Fingon's topic in Off the Wall Archives
What's with the WNY police officers recently? Are they so homely that they don't want to be recorded? The officer says he's saying this as a person, not as a police officer (which means he should be arrested for threatening the videographer), and says, "If You Take My Picture Again, I'm Going To !@#$ing Break Your Face." http://www.pixiq.com...to-policy-after -

Rochester Woman Arrested for Taping Cops,Then harass her supporters

Most interesting statement from the article: "It is also not the policy or practice of the Department to selectively enforce laws in response to the activities of a group or individual." So, will they be dropping the tickets against people who parked 12.5 inches from the curb too I wonder? -
All electronics generate heat... A DVR is a computer in a box, so of course it's going to generate heat, especially with a hard drive in it. Again, if you turn it off, how will it record anything...? At that point, why have a DVR...?

I wrote about this yesterday: http://www.neowin.net/news/cable-boxes-and-dvrs-use-more-power-than-refrigerators The thing to note is that the article is comparing TWO set-top boxes and saying, "Look, that's more than one appliance!" A little misleading. That said, how do you propose that the box be turned off? It's always recording -- that's why when you turn the TV on and see a show on that you like, you can rewind it an hour to watch from the start. It also needs to be awake enough to know when to start recording a show, as well as to download new guide data. I suppose it could automatically wake up once a day to download the guide data, and just spin down the drives and underclock the CPU while waiting for the next program and people would just be able to sacrifice the continuous buffer in exchange for lower electricity bills.

HP requires a W9 (presumably to provide to the government), but I'm sure other countries will have to pay duty on the product when it arrives. A little over an hour left to enter! Hope someone from TSW wins!

Rochester Woman Arrested for Taping Cops,Then harass her supporters
Fezmid replied to Fingon's topic in Off the Wall Archives
She has no criminal record... Doesn't that mean that although she may have been arrested in the past, she's done nothing wrong? (Kinda like this time) Another day, another police officer story. At least this one is merely a cop stealing an iPad at an airport and not arresting someone for no reason. http://www.fullerton...tsa-checkpoint/ -

Yeah, to the ones that arrest people for videotaping them or who bring pink rulers to measure how far a car is away from the curb when people get together to discuss the original outrage. Even if she is a "professional protester," who cares? What's the problem with someone "watching the watchers?" He demanded that she go into her house -- that's practically the same thing as "stop video taping." In addition, why did the officer not require any of the other neighbors (who didn't have video cameras) to go into their houses? He was focusing solely on the woman with the camera. If she wanted to shoot the cop, she would've just shot him, no? And how does her going into her house protect the officer from being shot? If she had a gun, couldn't she shoot through the window? Pretty lame argument. Also interesting that the other officers on the scene in the video didn't seem to have any interest in this woman. -

Thankless...?? All you ever hear is "police and firefighters are heroes!" everywhere you go. I'm not saying it's easy, fun, or safe, but it's definitely not thankless.
