What will it take to make the playoffs?
BobbyC81 replied to beerme1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He sure isn't off to a great start in grabbing hold of the starting position based on what I've been reading about the OTAs. -
What was TDs worst move as Bills GM
BobbyC81 replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, the Bledsoe move has set the Bills back. I'd say failure to sign Pat Williams as 2nd. His loss led to major drop of the defense in 2005 but can be corrected with the offseason moves and change of defense. Quarterback position is still a mess. -
What player do you think will have the biggest

I think 9-7 is possible. Four of the 11 losses in 2005 were by 6 pts or less so it could've easily been 9-7. Looking at the schedule, both games vs the Jets are winnable. The Miami rivalry doesn't matter what records were. A win in Buffalo is very possible. One win vs New England is a possibility. Other AFC games at home vs Tennessee and at Houston are very winnable. The Ravens were only 6-10 last season and didn't improve a lot so that's a winnable game. The Chargers could slip with Rivers at QB and that game is in Buffalo in December. Looking at the NFC games, Detroit and Green Bay will be very beatable. Minnesota was lucky to be 9-7 as they scored about 40 pts less than they gave up. That is an early home game for Buffalo so it's winnable. That's 11 winnable games. Winning 9 of them is possible. -

We're talking professional sports here, people. Anything can happen. I bet there isn't one person, and I'm including Lindy Ruff and Darcy Regier, that thought the Sabres would be in the Eastern Conference Finals right now. We've had several Bills' teams in recent years with lofty expectations that strongly disappointed. Perhaps we're due for the opposite to happen. In today's NFL there have been many instances of quick turn-arounds. Never say never! -
Will he have a couple years?? He's taken on a very stressful position. We don't know how he'll handle it. Despite the questionable moves that make Marv and this franchise a laughing stock throughout the country, I'm willing to give Marv the benfit of the doubt until proven differently. Now, if after a couple years: the team is losing heavily, Jauron has proven to be the wrong choice as head coach, Whitner is a bust and is cut, the O-line still stinks, the QB position is still lousy, the defense can't stop anyone and it's mainly due to DT play, then I'd give him heavy criticism. One aspect of the hiring of Marv as GM that doesn't bode well for the future is that there doesn't seem to be an heir apparent. If a team brought in a Bill Walsh with a lot of experience and success and had a young guy that he could groom, he could leave the team in a good position. Marv is learning this position on the job. No matter how good he does, I can't see him doing it for very long. So, you have Modrak as the assistant GM and he's in his 60's. When TD was fired, either Ralph didn't think Modrak could do the job or Modrak has made it known he doesn't want the responsibility. Who does that leave?? Jim Overdorf is the VP of Football Administration and is in his 40's but he's a business guy, who's handling things like contract negotiations and the salary cap. Could he learn the football side?? Sure. Could he be successful with it?? Possibly. Hopefully the Bills "brain trust" has this aspect covered with a succession plan or it could be back to square one again in a couple years.

Most NFL teams are lacking with their QB depth.

I'm glad to see someone back up their claims with some solid analysis. -
Is this for real?? Bwahahahaha!! What's he about, 35 or 36 now?? Maybe he's matured!! LOL!! Two years of working out with Dad to not hold onto the ball so long??!!

I also seem to recall the offseason after Blesoe's 1st season with the Bills. They finished 8-8 and were excited about having a better season the following year. There was near 100% participation in the OTAs. Obviously these players aren't too excited about the upcoming season. I also wonder if they're listening too much to comments from the outside. "Their new GM is 80 years old, he's being ridiculed in the media for his moves, the new coach has a losing record. " Perhaps they find the whole situation negative and demoralizing?
-
But don't be surpised. Look at the contract they gave to Peerless.
-
Exactly. Some people think it's no big deal since these OTA's are "voluntary". I think it's a BIG DEAL with the new coaching staff when some of the expected leaders (Fletcher, Vincent) don't bother to show. A team wanting to win would be in there to get a head start on preperation for the new season. Perhaps a few more veterans need to be released??!!!

The Detroit Lions released DT Dan Wilkinson.

Isn't he like a poor man's Sam Adams??!! -
Well, at least he changed that to "Top 10 in the NFL" on Stephen A.Smith's show.

Would be a nice switch as the Bills have been underachievers the last few years. -

The Stanley Cup DOES NOT have all the winners on it. It is made up of sections. When one section fills up, they take one out and put in a new one. -
Well, it seemed Mularkey thought he wasn't "Bringing it..." with the comments about his dancing behind the line.

Buffalo's own Joe Ferguson is up among the career leaders in several categories. I wouldn't call him a Hall-of-Famer either.

Gentlemen, your 2006-2007 Buffalo Jills!

Really! I want to see more legs!! -
"They're killin' me , Whitey!!"
-
He also seems to make the assumption that because Milloy and Sam Adams were let go that they will be worse off at safety and DT. As bad as the defense was last year, I think there's a very good chance they will be better at those positions with the newcomers.

Call for examples of Losman's "attitude"

Here's my "three" cents: 1) An observation: having watched every game on "the tube", I recall seeing numerous times, when they put the camera on JP on the sidelines that he was all alone. Perhaps someone who attended the home games could lend some more input here as to whether that was more common. It could mean nothing, but could also mean that he wasn't well-liked by his teammates. 2) Can anyone who still has tapes from the games of last season take a look at what you could see happened after JP was sacked. I recall, back with RJ, that the O-line got so sick of him taking sacks, that usually nobody was around to help pick him up afterwards. If the same thing was happening with JP, then, as with (1) above, could possibly show lack of respect or dislike by teammates. 3) This is just a minor thing, but a friend of mine, who still lives in the Buffalo area, caught a clip on the news about the Bills which showed JP in Mularkey's office with his bare feet prominently placed on Mularkey's desk. This bugged my friend as a sign of arrogance and disrespect by JP. Now, it didn't bother me that much, but I'll have to admit, experiencing something similar would likely result in me knocking a person on their a$$ for doing something like that. 4) As the season wore on, with issues like Moulds supposedly representing the starting offense in demanding a change at QB when JP was struggling, how much of this was due to frustaration of the offense struggling and how much was due to dislike or disrespect of JP?? -
I still have a box of Flutie Flakes. I wonder if they are worth more now??

Could it be the Bills are already pleased with
