Bills seem to be hot for McCluster
LancasterSteve replied to toddgurley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A 5'8" receiver ??? I thought the Bills were purging their roster of small receivers. Here is the write-up from the Sporting News Draft Central. Is Tom Donahoe back running the Bills draft ? This pic would be right up his ally. Pass Dexter McCluster WR, Mississippi War Room analysis STRENGTHS: McCluster is a very explosive athlete with the foot quicks, agility and elite playing speed to make big plays when he has the ball in his hands. He has outstanding run instincts/vision to find the hole/crease, can make the very fast jump-cut and has an explosive burst to get thru the hole in a flash. He has very good hands catching passes and is a dangerous runner after the catch. He is a very tough and highly competitive runner who keeps his legs churning, fights for every last yard and has the balance, agility and deceptive playing strength to keep feet vs hits and to run thru arm/grab tackles to consistently gain yards after contact. He has been a very versatile player at Mississippi playing primarily running back, but also lining up out at receiver at times and returning kicks/punts. He plays with great passion and intensity on every snap. WEAKNESSES: Obviously, McCluster's lack of ideal size is the biggest negative as it makes Dexter's durability a real concern. Despite being a very durable college player, he cannot be over-used in the NFL as players with his size have historically struggled to be durable when used too much. He is a very muscular player for his size and this build makes him seem a little tight and it hindered his ability to twist and catch passes thrown behind him consistently at the Senior Bowl. He is going to have to establish himself at one position having handled the ball in a variety of alignments in college. in college. McCluster had fumbling issues in college and put the ball on the ground in the Senior Bowl, so his struggles to protect the ball are definitely a real concern. BOTTOM LINE: McCluster is a short player who was super productive at Mississippi, but still had doubters before he went to the Senior Bowl and stood out all week. Obviously, his strong week in Mobile does not make him taller, but he was able to prove that he has the explosiveness, elusiveness, playing speed and receiving skills to be a productive player in the NFL if used correctly. Overall, McCluster has been moving up draft boards since he showed up in Mobile and we feel he is best suited to being drafted in the 3rd round, although he could be drafted higher if he blows up at the Combine. He reminds us of a combination of Darren Sproles, Deon Butler and Ahmad Bradshaw and we think he can be most productive in the NFL as a slot receiver, third-down back and star returner. McCluster, a running back/wide receiver from Ole Miss, has caught the eyes of many NFL personnel men at the Senior Bowl this week because of his speed and pass-catching ability. Though there are concerns about his size, McCluster (5-8, 165) raised his stock this week and might be working himself into the top two rounds of the draft. -

Happy B'Day to LancasterSteve
LancasterSteve replied to stuckincincy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thanks everyone for the Happy Birthday well wishes. Highlite of the day when wife asked where I would like to go for dinner after we left my folks house and I replied Teds (really good hotdog place here). I think she maybe had a nice restaurant in mind and was surprised by my choice but said "Teds it is" and off we went. Good choice (-: Everyday on the way to and way back from taking care of my two 89 year young parents, I pass Teds and all the time I say to myself, tomorrow IM going make time to stop and have a couple(or more ) of hot dogs, a loganberry and an order of their homemade fries. Well that "tomorrow" was today. It was nice just wife and me. IM a lucky guy. -
Bills meeting with Syracuse DT Arthur Jones?
LancasterSteve replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Glad your doing better. BTW you have a real "keeper" in your wife. Treat her good my friend. Back to the task at hand. I have had Jones on my radar for a while. The guy is a football player with a really good head on his shoulders. Here is the write-up from the Sporting News. Sorry can't post a link as it is a subscription to the draft stuff. They have Jones being drafted by Carolina in the second round (15) 47th overall. IMO if he's still on the board, Authur Jones would be an outstanding pick for the Buffalo Bills. Arthur Jones DT, Syracuse War Room analysis Against the run: Makes plays in every way. Gets off the snap quickly to shoot gaps and blow up plays in the backfield. Consistently gets under "reach" blocks, keeping offensive linemen on his back as he accelerates quickly down the line. Shows the speed to chase down ball carriers near the sideline. Takes on one-on-one run blocks with good leverage, uses hands well to shed the block and make the play. Pass rush: Shows explosive athleticism and great instincts and snap anticipation to burst off the snap and threaten gaps. Shows the quickness, hands and agility to defeat one-on-one pass blocks with a quick "slap and arm-over" move. Flashes an explosive closing burst to the quarterback to finish the sack. Isn't much of a bull rusher. Must improve secondary pass-rush moves to defeat the block if initially stopped. Initial quickness: Is a disruptive force. Shows super quickness and strong legs. Anticipates the snap well. Even when not making a tackle, disrupts the play enough so teammates can make the play. Is a similar prospect to the Bears' Tommie Harris. Run/pass recognition: Shows natural instincts. Sniffs out plays well, especially screen passes. Pursuit/tackling: Is an elite athlete with the quickness and speed to chase down plays all over the field. Moves through traffic with surprising ease, maintains speed and has an explosive burst to finish plays. Stays under control and maintains good balance in the open field, never getting too high or overrunning plays. Bottom line: Jones really improved his consistency as a senior. He is not the big, 320-plus-pound defensive tackle many teams covet, but he has the tools to be a highly productive, gap-shooting tackle. Jones shows the instincts, athleticism, explosiveness, competitiveness and strength to play tackle in a 4-3 scheme or end in a 3-4 scheme, especially in San Diego's and Pittsburgh's system. -
Brady Quinn Traded To Denver
LancasterSteve replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well as they say...grass is always greener Unbelievable that all these do-nothing rethreads keep getting another shot with big bucks to boot. From Mark Gaughan's "Inside the NFL" column in the Sunday Buffalo News; 3. Jake Delhomme made six turnovers in the Panthers' playoff loss to Arizona at the end of the 2008 season. Carolina still gave Delhomme a new contract with $20 million guaranteed. (It was worth $25.5 million over the first three years.) Delhomme promptly made six turnovers in Carolina's season opener and went on to throw a career-high 18 INTs. Carolina still owes him $12.6 million but cut him anyway, in part to take advantage of the salary dump in the uncapped year. He agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Browns. The Panthers have made the playoffs three times in seven years with GM Marty Hurney and coach John Fox running the show. The fact the NFL is facing the prospect of a lockout in 2011 might have helped them survive another year. Link: http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/03/13/9869...change-has.html -
With the depth in the draft....
LancasterSteve replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO doesn't mean squat. More that few draft pundits said the same thing about Ryan Leaf. With some even ranking Leaf over Peyton Manning for the top draft pick -
I agree get the pros out of the Olympics.

I heard that too. Sporting News has Saffold ranked as the 6th best OT and drafted fourth in the second round, well before our pick. There is marked drop-off in talent after Safford IMO so if the Bills don't snag an OT with their own 1st rounder, trading up might be their only option for a day one starter at OT. The other OT's below Saffold starting with Charles Brown (USC); 4th round if he's lucky but most likely 5th round, and Charles Veldheer also 4th round at best. Both play like Jane but some team (Not the Bills with Nix running the show now) will draft them

A point of emphasis on manners...
LancasterSteve replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It wasn't always this way here. The Stadium Wall used to be a much more civil place. Don't know how it got to be in your FACE bashing by the very immature. No respect for any views other than their own childish narrow self-centered and often off-base opinions. I've been around a few 24 hours; was employed by the buffalo Bills for 8+ years and still know a few people there....good people. I gave up sharing any info I learn because of the insults and the utter disrespect by kids young enough to be my grand-kids. I still find out stuff but will never again subject myself to some pea-brained pi$$-pot's disrespect as a person. I still keep in touch with people who used to post quite often here and they too tell me they will read the "Wall" but will no longer post because the mood of TSW has changed. Too bad, many good decent people refuse to get caught up in the childish behaviour that seems all to common an occurence now. Can't blaim them. I miss reading posts from my friends here on a regular basis but understand all too well their reluctance to subject themselves to the empty minded insults from punks ! -

OFFICIAL BILLS VS. JETS @ TORONTO THREAD.
LancasterSteve replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Where were the quick passes to the TE. No two back sets, one to block, one to chip block and get in the flat for the pass. The screen passes were terribly set up..is this all on the players? There are ways to be successful and burn defenses when they bust the bank blitzing. Are there plays in the playbook with Evans going across the middle? We saw a short hook with TO were he almost got busted in two. How about a quick slant to Owens like Kelly used to hit Reed over the middle. I haven't seen that pass route in years...why? The Jets were stacking the line with 8-9 players and still Van Pelt called running plays up the middle. Why? Granted the offensive line is made up of a bunch of pretenders who couldn't make Joe's beer league but even so it's up to the OC to come up with plays to get the ball out of the quarterbacks hands with quick passes when the defense stacks the line, inviting you to throw. Why wasn't Josh Reed in the slot thrown to more? The OC draws up the plays. He is the one that has to put the players he has in the best possible position to make plays. -

Blame the doughboy for this one. Learned at the Bills Booster meeting at RWS this past Tuesday that as offensive co-ordinator he has carte blanche in calling the plays. Perry Fewell stays out of Van Pelt's gameplanning. Of course Van Pelt has all those years as OC and Wilson had to open his pocketbook to keep such a brilliant offensive mind as Van Pelt One other thing, from what I hear; no one should hold their breath that RW will actually spend big bucks on a head coach. All PR BS to sucker Suite and Club Seat holders into renewing their licenses a week after the season ends when they are due IMHO. Just another year when we are promised * Prime Rib and end up with wieners. * reference the News article on Wilson on his not being cheap when it comes to spending to hire a known HC -
Time Warner-NFL Network Bills-Jets Game
LancasterSteve replied to cuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep this is true and when TW dropped the NFL Network it took me about....oh ten minutes or so to call and drop cable like a lead balloon and another ten to order Direct TV and never looked back. TW is just a gutless blood-sucking Machiavellian underhanded organization....and IM being kind. I will never ever go back to cable. -
I wouldn't hold your breath if I was you on GR sinking anytime soon. I don't like the crap that comes out of their mouths either so I gave up tuning in many moons ago. Schoop, Chris Parker (AKA "Bulldog" ) and Howard Simon all sold their souls to remain in their gigs. If they didn't follow the company line of bashing the Bills at every opportunity, they would be out of a job...and fast. They are "owned" by the Sabres thru and thru. The Sabres are competitors with the Bills not only in ticket dollars but in prestige. The Sabres are thought of as a second fiddle on the sports ladder of national recognition and there is an all out war by the Sabres through their "mouthpieces" at WGR to carrying it out. Howard Simon had a very good sports show on WNIA. Very knowledgeable and was usually a good listen. Did Simon take dummy pills and turn into a Kumquat? or did the powers that be tell him that's what they wanted to hear come out of his mounth on air? You can bet its the second option. Same for Chris Parker. He also was a good listen when he first started out on WBEN with John Murphy and then on his own show. Very good young sports mind and I was rooting for him to make it on radio. Goes to Gr, gets reinvented as a bulldog and becomes a puppet to the inane mentality of Schoop. Speaking of Schoop; 'GR didn't need to feed him nasty pills, that's just the way he is naturally. Of course their younger listening audience adore his rude in your face talk. The more abusive any of them become the more these young insecure kids suck up to them. IM not saying anyone here is like that just my observations from listening in the past. Young caller after young caller, getting insulted and worse and still going back to the trough for more. Why? And to make matters worse, I have never ever heard one of these young kids have any guts to challenge being called a pu$$y by Schoop. Yes WGR has nothing to fear. There will always be a segment, abeit a very small segment of either insecure or immature or both that call into a sports talk radio program, get their a$$es kicked and enjoy it.

Hey all you Jason Peters haters
LancasterSteve replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills screwed the pooch by not being more proactive in resigning Peters. Peters sees the Bills sign free agent offensive linemen for mega bucks. Sees Scholbel, Kelsey and others resigned to mega contracts. Wether in fans minds, Peters deserved to go to the Pro-Bowl or not; he was. Peters agent was probably inflating Peter's ego beyond reality. While, by all accounts it seems that Brandon, a very raw GM at best, underestimated (by a lot I might add) Peter's true value. Besides QB, the most important position on offense is LT. If your lucky enough to get a good one, you pay him and plug him in there for the next 10 years. Our inexperienced quasi GM for all the excuses he uttered at the Bills Booster meeting blew it. Maybe, just maybe a seasoned GM would have been proactive at an earlier date; but then again if there had been a top notch GM in place instead of Levy, we most likely don't bring in under preforming, orverpaid lineman. Peters had a new contract (very inexpensive for a LT) in place but after making the Pro-Bowl, seeing two new linemen in Dockery and Walker receive 6 and 7 million before playing one down; Peters had to be pi$$ed. Unfortunatley, talent evaluation either of FA of other teams or value of their own players has taken a nosedive ever since John Butler left, taking with him half the front office involved with player evaluation, let alone most of the scouts. -
Hey all you Jason Peters haters
LancasterSteve replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
. You wrote at one point that the oft-cited commentary that Peters would never re-sign in Buffalo was impossible to prove. I agree with you on that. How could we really know what happened? I was told face to face by Russ Brandon himself and again in part before a previous Bills Booster meeting, that the Bills in their negotiations actually tried to offer Peters a better contract, but that Peters agent would not return the Bills calls. He further stated that the Bills felt that the only option left was to try to get fair compensati0n for Peters in a trade. That they were sorry that JP wanted to move on or some words to that effect. Many Boosters were upset (me among them) that the Bills failed to resign Peters, so Russ Brandon got peppered with many questions about the Peters non-signing and subsequent trade. There are other posters from TwoBillsDrive that were there and if they happen to read this, they might offer something I may have forgot. Sigh, once you hit 60 everything starts to go including memory -
