  1. This sounds like the best advice in this thread. Nowadays, when I go to games I stay at a friend's house in Depew, not far from the airport and go back after the game. I get there early enough to park in the lot on California closest to Southwestern (going from Transit, after it turns into Southwestern I make a left at the corner light on to California). I go all the way on Southwestern/Transit since they live off Transit. The lot can fill up fast, so if you're a late arrival, you're toast. Another possibility is in a current stadium side lot on Southwestern between the stadium & California, but you have a lot of pedestrians making it hard to turn right on Southwestern. Another possibility is the stadium lot on Southwestern if you get there early enough to park in the 1st or 2nd row closest to the exit. Park on the northeast side of the lot (left after the parking attendants scan the parking pass) so it's an easy right hand turn out. I used to do that when I was younger & I could run out of the stadium to the car-I also used to drive back to Albany after the game, so I had to get out quickly. Also, it depends on how the game is going. If a lot of people leave in the middle of the 4th quarter, all the roads will be jammed if you wait until the end. The fastest I've gotten out of the stadium was games that ended on a final kick or overtime because I could outrun the other fans & when that happened the roads were clear enough to go Southwestern north, left to the 219 & the 219 to I-90. Under no circumstances should you wait 10 minutes after the game. All that does is lets the other people get to their cars and get ahead of you on the road. I'd recommend the OP puts on WGR's postgame show after a home game before they go to the game & listen to the traffic reports. They'll get a pretty good idea of how the roads jam up after the game. There were plenty of games it took 45 minutes to an hour for me to get to the Depew toll booths on the Thruway whether I took Southwestern/Transit all the way to the Thruway via Transit, or went 219 to 90. The good news is, even if it takes an hour, if the game ends at 4:15, they'll get to the airport in plenty of time.
  2. Marrone saw how bad EJ was in practice and was more interested in protecting his own job and reputation than wasting any time on a bust. I say instead of blaming Marrone for EJ's failure, blame the scouts who approved him as a first rounder when most other teams didn't.
  3. I wanted McKinnie instead of Williams and every time Mike messed up in a home game I'd yell from my seat, "Should have drafted McKinnie,"
  4. I bought a flight to Phoenix, booked a rental car, bought a parking pass near State Farm Stadium, and booked a motel in Casa Grande for the Super Bowl last January. By the 4th quarter of the Bengals game I was cancelling the flight (got a credit for a future flight-used most of it to book a flight to California later this year), rental car & motel reservation. I ended up getting a credit from Groupon for the parking but since most of the stuff on Groupon is trash & I had spent $150 on the parking, I cashed the parking credit in for a refurbished I-Pad I never use & 50 AA batteries which might last long enough to end up in my estate.
  5. Joe Burrow is the reason. A QB change to a franchise QB changes everything.
  6. Before McDermott, no Bills coach without prior pro football head coaching experience succeeded as Bills head coach. The most successful Bills head coaches before McDermott were all retreads. Now one reason may have been that no hot assistant wanted to work for Ralph when there were other options and other teams were paying more for the hot assistants than the Bills. But the bottom line is that in the 63 year team history only one 1st time head coach promoted from the assistant ranks has had any success. So, if anyone wants to fire McDermott, be VERY careful what you wish for.
  7. The main reason Albany doesn't support minor league teams is because there are a lot of us, me included, who would rather travel to NYC, NJ, or Boston & see major league teams, than waste our time watching an inferior product. In my case I have lived in Long Island & Buffalo & I would rather travel and watch the real thing. I'm too spoiled to go to minor league baseball ( I went to 1 Bison game at the Rockpile years ago just to see the stadium after The Natural renovations.). I used to go to the Firebirds games when they were in the top Arena League. The current league the Empire was in is far inferior to the old Arena league. The only minor league baseball game I went to in Albany was an all star game in the old Colonie Yankees days when I 1st moved here & I was talked into going-there were too many bugs flying around the stadium & I never went back.
  8. His father Neal was in Bills camp in 1989 but didn't make the team.
  9. Nope. I'm rooting for him to make a full recovery and if he does he will be back broadcasting games.
  10. Let's not forget how the WR group fell apart. We had to bring Beasley and Brown back when that could have never been the plan when the season started.
  11. Inside the NFL was the main reason I originally subscribed, along with The Good Fight. Now they're both gone. I liked Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown, but they're not worth paying for when there's nothing else I watch on there. I have Showtime already as part of my TV package so I have no incentive to buy the combined package. If the show fails to get enough viewers on The CW, the only place left to go will be NFL Network- they used to show episodes after they aired on Showtime.
  12. Saffold ruined everything.
  13. They haven't said who will be on yet. They also have Michael Irvin on the Paramount + broadcasts some weeks. Nick & Len were the best. I ended up really liking Nick, even though he was a former Dolphin & Patriot. A few years ago they did a documentary on Nick after he was already ill-it was very sad seeing him in his final years.
  14. On non-pay TV for the 1st time in 2023. I cancelled my Paramount + subscription. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/inside-the-nfl-moving-the-cw-1235509218/ Hosts and producers for the show will be announced later. CBS Sports’ James Brown hosted the past several seasons along with former players Phil Simms, Brandon Marshall, Ray Lewis and Julian Edelman. Inside the NFL debuted on HBO in 1977 and ran for 31 years before moving to Showtime in 2008. Following more than a decade there, it moved to Paramount+ in 2021. The show will make its CW debut at 8 p.m. Sept. 5 and run there (as well as on the network’s streaming app) throughout the NFL season. That will also result in some changes to The CW’s previously announced fall schedule, with details to be announced later.
  15. According to the guys on One Bills Live he's in good shape & they talked with him for a while. I hope he's all the way back & can be back in the booth this season.
  16. Actually, the team was pretty good. The game was part of the Chuck Knox era. They were coming off 2 straight winning seasons and when they won that Monday night game they went to 2-0. The season fell apart after they returned from the strike. Then Knox left after the 1982 season. Things were still looking up in 1963 when the Bills started 5-2 under new coach Kay Stephenson before Joe Ferguson just hit a wall in his career and things got bad for the next 2.5 seasons until Kelly arrived.
  17. The Giants. I'm going to the Giants vs Jets game on 10/29 & will be rooting for the Bills south squad.
  18. After Talkin Proud the Bills used "We Can Make It Happen" for a while & then switched to Shout. Back in 1993 the Bills got into a dispute with the owners of the original Shout song & made a new Shout song. They played it in preseason and the fan backlash was so strong, the Bills were forced to pay more money & bring back the old version (Yes, Ralph was even cheap on songs). At the Super Bowl in Atlanta in 1994, the 1st time the Bills scored, they played the wrong Shout song. Then someone gave them the right version later in the game. https://buffalonews.com/news/local/why-the-bills-make-you-wanna-sing-shout-and-no-other-song/article_a9012af4-6d02-11ed-927a-efe30de7d3a7.html The song is probably irreplaceable: In 1993, when the Bills decided it was too expensive to pay for the Isley music, the team briefly replaced it with a redone version of another golden-oldies hit, Ernie Maresca’s “Shout! Shout! (Knock Yourself Out).” Fans revolted within weeks, and “Shout!” returned. We Can Make It Happen went something like this: We can make it happen, cheering on the Bills now. Buffalo makes it happen, climb on the Bills fan wagon. I do believe in Buffalo, I do believe in Buffalo, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do. We can!
  19. 1st I moved back to Long Island for 5 years to work for the state & then on to Albany for the past 35 years.
  20. 1982 was my last year in WNY. I was living in Kenmore, but I couldn't go to the 1st 2 games because I had recently had my appendix out. The 1st 2 games were blacked out on local TV. For the opener, I found a UHF French speaking station that was showing the Bills game, so I turned down the sound & put the radio on & listened to the Buffalo radiocast. The next game was the one above. Whatever the cable company was at the time they imported the game from Syracuse & put it on our cable in Buffalo. So even though both games were blacked out, I got to watch both of them in my apartment. By the time the strike ended, I was able to go to the Miami game. Even though I went to many more home games, the Miami game was my last as a resident of WNY. I left for good that December.
  21. The Empire got blown out tonight 68-24.
  22. Latest update. A new coach was supposed to come in, but he changed his mind, so they had a player retire & he becomes the new coach. The just fired coach is returning as an assistant coach to help the new coach who until today was a player, but coaches can't play in the league the Empire is in. https://www.outkick.com/antonio-brown-albany-empire-head-coach-change-12-arena-football-maurice-leggett/ With Porcelli out, Brown announced that Iowa Barnstormers defensive coordinator Terrence Foster was to be his replacement. That was on June 1. It was announced on Sunday, three days later, that Foster declined the job. Maurice Leggett was named as the interim head coach. Who is Maurice Leggett? Leggett was on the Empire’s roster as a defensive back until last week. His retirement was made official on June 2, along with multiple other roster moves.
  23. I knew Terry wasn't going to get through his speech without crying.
