The shortest route from Manhattan to Met Life Stadium is less than 10 miles. The Giants play close enough to Manhattan that any player who wants to live in NYC can do so. Also if he decides to live in NJ, his wife can commute to NYC for any job there she gets. Are you joking or are you that bad in geography?

Trade market for Rosen "soft"
Albany,n.y. replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His first media event with his new team should be can't miss TV/radio. He'll be wise not to unload on Arizona's management until he proves it on the field, but I doubt he'll be able to contain himself. -
Whatever Happened To Mike Quick?
Albany,n.y. replied to BillyWhiteShows's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The 1980 & 1981 seasons on the field don't erase all the blunders & bad decisions made by the Bills until Bill Polian took over and why they were the NFL's laughingstock until Marv showed up in 1986. I'll start one year before the 1980s, also it should be noted that the Bills were a laughingstock in the late 1960s and mid-late 1970s. Most of this caused by Ralph's penny-pinching (I'd like to thank author Sal Maiorana and his book Relentless in aiding in the details of the accounts of some of the events below. I remembered most of them but used his book as a reference to add to the details) : 1979-The Bills become the 1st, and to this date the only, team to ever lose the top pick in the entire NFL draft to the CFL. 1980-Rather than pay him, the Bills trade future HOFer Joe DeLamielleure to Cleveland at age 29, still in his prime. He played 5 seasons with the Browns after the trade. 1981-Let's start with the draft, one of the worst in team history, led by #1 pick Booker Moore who missed his rookie year with Guillain-Barre Syndrome and whether it was the aftereffects of the disease or just that he was a bust, he was a bust. The best picks were in the 9th-11th rounds. In June Jim Haslett got so frustrated with his contract negotiations that he filed unfair labor practice charges against the Bills with the National Labor Relations Board. He later fired his agent & re-signed in August. 1982-The aforementioned Perry Tuttle blunder. Overall another horrible draft with only Eugene Marve in the 3rd round providing any long term contribution. In one of the strangest moments in Bills history the Bills cut rookie kicker Gary Anderson, who went on to a long career in the NFL and kept Nick Mike-Mayer who ended up getting cut in September. For years there have been rumors that Anderson was so upset with being drafted by the Bills that he tanked preseason so that he could get cut & picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers. In a strike year when no games were played from late September until November 21st Joe Cribbs held out and didn't report until November 24th. 1983-Chuck Knox resigns after the 1982 season, starting the eras of Kay Stephenson & subsequently Hank Bullough. Jim Kelly is in the Bills offices talking contract and the USFL calls to tell him not to sign with the Bills. A secretary takes the call & interrupts the meeting so Kelly can talk with the USFL representative-IN THE BILLS OFFICE! He signs with the USFL and we lose 3 seasons without him before finally signing him in 1986. In July Joe Cribbs has now had enough with the Bills and signs a future contract with the USFL. He plays in 1983 and leaves for the USFL after the season. Losing him and Jim Kelly set the stage for back to back 2-14 seasons although Cribbs does return in midseason 1985. 1984-The Bills are now a laughingstock on the field as well as off it, going 2-14 and having the worst record in the NFL. 1985-In spite of having the worst record in 1984, the Bills retain coach Kay Stephenson. The Bills deal the 1st pick in the supplemental draft to Cleveland so that Cleveland can draft Bernie Kosar. Part of the deal includes sending talented LB Chip Banks to Buffalo. Banks refuses to report & the trade is revised where Banks is allowed to return to Cleveland rather than ever play for the Bills. In October the Kay Stephenson era ends with his firing and the elevation of the man who will go down in history as one of the worst, if not the worst head coaches in Bills history, Hank Bullough. Later in October Joe Cribbs returns from the USFL. Within a month he has become so disgruntled that he put strips of athletic tape on his locker with a sign that read "Buffalo Prison" 1986-The Bills finally started doing things right, signed Jim Kelly and under new GM Bill Polian's urging, got Ralph to loosen his wallet and put together a decent staff off the field. Of course, the Marv Levy era didn't start until after the Bills traded the multi-year disgruntled Joe Cribbs and had the embarrassment of the team's defensive players tanking in Tampa in order to get Hank Bullough fired. -
Whatever Happened To Mike Quick?
Albany,n.y. replied to BillyWhiteShows's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In 1982 the Eagles were drafting 20th & the Bills were drafting 21st. Both teams wanted to draft WRs. The Bills decided they needed to leapfrog over the Eagles so they traded a 3rd round pick & their 1st rounder to Denver to move up from 21 to 19. With that pick the Bills selected WR Perry Tuttle. The Eagles then selected Mike Quick with pick 20 of the 1st round. Tuttle lasted 2 seasons with the Bills, he was traded for a 7th round pick the preseason of his 3rd year in Buffalo. A year later he was permanently out of the NFL & played the rest of his career in Canada. Trading up to leapfrog Philadelphia for a player who lasted 2 seasons was one of many blunders that made the Bills the NFL's laughingstock in the early-mid 1980s. -

What's the better strategy for the Cardinals?
Albany,n.y. replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reason for the Eli/Rivers deal was because both teams wanted QBs and Eli was refusing to play for SD. If they want Murray, they're not drafting someone else, the Rivers/Eli situation was unique. -

There would be a bidding war which would drive up the price, or one team would make sure to make Arizona an offer they couldn't refuse. If a team totally disagreed with Arizona's thoughts on Rosen, they would make sure they would assure they got him. The only reason Arizona has no leverage is because there is no demand for Rosen as there would be if other teams viewed him as a franchise QB. For proof, I'll use the case of Brett Favre. Favre was a 2nd round pick who barely played his rookie year. Atlanta's coach, Jerry Glanville publicly stated he was not going to play Favre. You would think based on these statements, Favre, a 2nd rounder could not even fetch a 2nd in any trade. GB traded a #1 after Favre's rookie year to Atlanta because their GM viewed Favre as a potential franchise QB. If there was just 1 QB needy GM who views Rosen as a potential franchise QB, they'd be throwing their #1 pick at Arizona just to make sure they locked up a deal. Nobody has done that. -

I've read all the stories & nobody has offered Arizona anything higher than a 2nd. The best story is the one about Arizona trying to save face. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/cardinals-reportedly-receive-two-trade-offers-for-josh-rosen-want-to-save-face-in-deal/ -
What's the better strategy for the Cardinals?
Albany,n.y. replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What if nobody wants to trade up to #1 who has the draft capital to do so? The top of the draft is loaded with top D players who are all rated pretty equally. Why would a team anywhere near the top want to make a trade up when they can get a player just as good as the one they can get at their spot? If a team further down wants to get to the top, it would be too cost prohibitive to do so. So this just isn't a reply to you, it's a reply to everyone who thinks Arizona can just snap their fingers & find a trade partner who will give them a haul for the top pick-easier said than done. -

My thoughts exactly. One thing that can be concluded about Rosen: No GM without a QB who they believe is a long term franchise QB thinks Rosen will ever be a franchise QB. At best, Rosen is viewed as no more than adequate. Obviously Arizona doesn't view Rosen as a potential franchise QB, which is why they are considering drafting Murray. This is similar to the way the Bills viewed Tyrod Taylor-JAG who will never be a franchise QB. If anyone with a QB need thought of Rosen as a franchise QB, they would have offered Arizona a #1 pick. So far, according to rumors, the best offer is a #2. -
Buffalo Bills 2018 MVP... Whitney Mercilus
Albany,n.y. replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can't ruin a QB unless he suffers a career ending or destroying injury. Any QB who was "ruined" never had it to begin with. You can blame all the ruined QBs on 1 thing-bad scouting. The "ruined" guy should have never been drafted where he was. Nobody ruined JP, EJ or any QB who doesn't use his 1st name. Teams reach for QBs, then the coach puts them in when their lack of NFL ability is exposed sooner rather than later. JP sat his rookie year and it didn't work out so good. EJ started his rookie year & the coach saw enough to know he didn't have it. Either way, the Bills reached in both cases just as many GMs have done over the years & then fans blame the coaches instead of the GM & scouts who drafted the bum. -
Reading tea leaves: Bills trade down with NYG or OAK
Albany,n.y. replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fans use it a lot more than teams. I doubt when a team is negotiating a trade, a GM is looking at a chart. More likely, the GMs are looking at what picks they have & go from there. Look at the Darnold & Allen trades last year. Indy traded 2,200 to the Jets for 2,540 in last years draft and what turned out to be another 550 in this year's draft. Nobody in the Jets front office was hung out to dry because they traded too many points to Indy. Indy jumped at the deal because it gave them 3 extra #2s and they were still able to get the player they wanted. The Jets knew that in order to assure themselves one of the top 3 QBs, they had to give whatever it took. That tells me the Jets had 3 QBs rated highly enough that it was worth whatever it would take-points be damned. The Bills traded for a spot worth 1,500 points and a 7th rounder not even on the chart because the chart doesn't account for comp picks. They gave up 1,910 points & were glad to keep their other 1st rounder. If necessary, Beane would have traded the 21st pick rather than lose Allen. Once again points be damned. Bottom line is if a team really has zoned in on a player, they don't give a rat's behind about JJ's chart. -
Jamarcus Russell was a bust because he was a fat lazy slob who didn't want to work at being a pro athlete. As I said before, I'm not into going on a board and predicting failure. I will mention something though: Years ago I thought Vince Young was going to be a massive bust & I told everyone who would listen. Then he goes out and surprises me his rookie year and I vowed to stop getting on QBs coming out of college and predicting doom & gloom for their careers. Funny how Young turned out, even getting some preseason snaps with my team near the very end of his career.

For a good laugh, take a look at last year's Mocks
Albany,n.y. replied to Da webster guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A couple of months ago when there was no football stuff happening I looked back at the final 2018 mock drafts & a very high % of the top guys had the Bills trading into the top 10 for Allen. What that told me was the word was out that the Bills were going after Allen and they still were able to trade up & get him. Some guys, like Kiper, do mock drafts based on who they think is the best player at the position & assign him to the team in need of that position. Other guys actually try to predict what will happen, rather than apply their biases like Kiper (who BTW thought Allen was the best QB & mock drafted him to Cleveland), and end up getting things right sometimes. Going over all the mocks, the guys actually trying to predict the draft were saying the Bills were going to do whatever it took to get Allen if he fell out of the top 3. They were also smart enough to know neither Cleveland, NYG or NYJ were taking him. -
So what the OP is saying is that Arizona is too dumb to recognize that he has bad mechanics, has a coaching staff that is too dumb to be able to coach him into better mechanics & Murray is too set in his ways to listen to coaches and work on his mechanics, all because he loves baseball. While I'm not a fan of Arizona drafting Murray #1 and I think there are a number of red flags from size to the lack of success on dual sports QBs who have baseball contracts (remember Elway was just using the Yankees to get out of Baltimore) and end up playing in the NFL, I think the OP is really reaching on this mechanics thing. Also, for every QB ever drafted since the advent of message boards, there are numerous posts as to why the guy will be a bust. I prefer posts that aren't negative on every QB out there, although I will admit that when I heard that EJ was offering stock in his future the 1st thing I said was I want to know how to short that stock. PS: I will admit a lot of what I feel is clouded by all the criticism I saw last year on Josh Allen before we drafted him and how stupid any team would be to make him a top 10 pick.

If Seattle thinks Haskins has franchise potential they should consider trading Wilson to the NYG for picks 6 & 17 plus either another draft choice or a player. That way they can reset their cap # at QB & make another Super Bowl run adding players they can't add with Wilson's cap #. Now if they don't love any QBs in this draft, they better do everything needed to keep Wilson happy in Seattle.
-
No they don't. Once the Pegulas got approved & owned the team, they can do anything they want in regards to their stadium and the NFL can't stop them. The NFL put up with Al Davis for years because they knew they couldn't do anything to him if he made a decision that was, what he thought, best for the Raiders. Do you think the NFL loves the road revenue when they play in LA against the Chargers in that sub-minor league stadium for 3 years? If the Bills decide to renovate New Era stadium, all the NFL can do is send the opponents there and suck it up.

Latest Drafttek Mock: 4/10
Albany,n.y. replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unless this guy has a bad medical report on Alex Smith in his hands, how the heck does he know if the Redskins are desperate for a QB. A year ago Washington though of Smith enough to give him a 5 year contract. Even if he doesn't play in 2019, unless they KNOW that Smith will never play again, they have to ride it out this season & hope he returns in 2020. They're just too hog-tied with his contract to go drafting his replacement this year. Just look at his contract #s (linked), with a dead cap hit of over $32 million in 2020. They can't afford to move on unless the medical reports say he's done and I seriously doubt this mock drafter knows what his medical report is. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/alex-smith-3337/ -
Giants looking at defense at #6 in draft?
Albany,n.y. replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone seems to be forgetting that the Giants have the #17 pick in the draft. If they don't view any of the QBs worth a top 10 pick, they can sit at 17 and get their guy, if they even have a guy in this bad QB draft year. Nobody wants to be the next Buddy Nix-a guy who takes a QB just to take one because he neglected the position in earlier drafts. Better to be prudent and wait a year until a guy, not JAG, is available in either your spot or a trade up. All this talk about teams between 10-15 grabbing a bunch of QBs is just talk by people who want those teams to get so hungry for a QB they'll get into a bidding war for pick 9. All that is, is Bills homerism by people who love the thought of trading down. The QBs in this draft just aren't that talented to start a bidding war for. Let's look at the teams the trade downers are talking about: Denver: Elway has been taking draft scraps for years hoping one will turn into chicken salad. He's not risking it at 10 or a trade up. Just look at last year, he could have had Allen or Rosen at 5, but wasn't even thinking QB. He's been a win now GM his entire stay, not a guy who looks 2-3 years down the line. It worked with Manning so he thinks a veteran for a few years is better than drafting a QB of the future. He figures he can get 2-3 years out of Flacco and is pushing the young QB down the road to another future draft. Miami: Face it, they're thinking 2020 not 2019. The team is structured to be bad this year. They reached for Tannehill years ago & won't make the mistake of drafting JAG again, at least not in this draft. Cincinnati: They have a mediocrity in Dalton. This draft is filled with future mediocrities. The Bengals are not looking at this draft to get another one. Daton's job is safe for this draft. Washington: They invested in Smith long term. Now he has a season ending injury, but QBs are now playing into their 40s. They traded for this year's stopgap & rather than reach for a QB this year, they'll see what Smith is before the 2020 draft. They'll probably be drafting pretty high, as will the Giants, in a much better QB draft next year, so if Smith can't play again they'll be in position to draft a franchise guy. -
Unpopular Take. The Bills should trade for Rosen
Albany,n.y. replied to Zerovoltz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's a lot more than just Jimmy hedging on QBs. Neither had played a down in the NFL, totally different than bringing in a 2nd year player as a hedge on another 2nd year player. Most important: Walsh was Jimmy Johnson's QB in Miami before JJ was hired by the Cowboys. Rosen has no ties to any Bills coaches. Overall, it was a stupid decision. Walsh was a lousy NFL QB & JJ was extremely lucky he was able to fleece the Saints out of a #1 pick before Walsh was fully exposed and was around Not For Long in NO. . -
Years ago I heard an interview with Fred Smerlas (who hates Bullough and calls him "brain cell" because according to Fred, he only has one brain cell) and he said the same thing about players telling the other ones they'd kill them if they made a tackle. If I recall correctly, Freddie attributed the threats to Bruce Smith.

I've called a couple of times with Petrino, quite a few years ago. 1st time was a postgame show in the 90s during preseason and we called the post game show together, he got on the phone in my kitchen & I got on the phone in my bedroom so we were both on the air at the same time. The 2nd time I was driving & Petrino called The Coach Dickerson's postgame show from my car on the Thruway. We mentioned how I had security come down after I wrote in the snow on the roof of the indoor seats below the 1st row of the club level endzone "Fire Mularkey" and they made me brush the writing off. Coach responded "Did he write it in yellow?"
