  1. Seems to me the off field stuff plays the largest role. How motivated is the kid when no ones watching? What will he do when a bucket of NFL money is delivered to his door? Are there any other personal factors that that need to be taken into account? These off the field questions cannot be seen in the game film. I believe Buddy has seen enough players succeed and fail to guide our scouts on what is important and what is not. The next two years will clarify how much Buddy knows. I like our last two drafts much more than the 3 or 4 before them.
  2. I for one would be suprised. Word around here (pit) is he wasn't the best worker and I thought his play this year showed it. The main problem for him was Sunseri was not accurate, but Baldwin did seem to lose focus and probably doesn't have a whole lot of quality film this year to show for it. I assume if he has a good combine someone would jump on the potential, but I think it would be tough to justify taking him at #34. I like J Pinkston instead, it will be interesting if he's there @34 what they do. Actually, I think 34 is going to be the most interesting pick for us, beginning of the second day, with us having so many needs it may be our best chance to trade down. I don't know where Romeus is going to end up, but pre-season he was getting looked at in the middle of the first. I don't know if he will work on our defense, but Dave should understand his back problems and we could pick him up if the value is there. Dion Lewis is a decent back but there were rumors regarding a drinking problem that got him into trouble early this year. Seems like he turned it around later in the year, but I don't know if Wanny would spend a pick on him. Maybe udfa.
  3. Just so you know, Scott plays LT for them, Flozell RT. They will only have one "planned" starter from training camp on the oline in there on Sunday. Makes you think how important those positions are, doesn't it? I'm hoping the Pack wins because I don't want to hear about a Steelers victory. I also think Troy P is hurt worse than they let on, he hasn't been the same since the Cin game. 42-31 Pack.
  4. From what Buddy has been saying this will not be the case. I think he needs to ink guys like Whitner, Florence and Poz at a reasonable rate, not have to overpay our own like we did for Evans and J. Reed. That will mean the players believe the Bills are serious about winning. Merriman signing is a big step, hopefully the rest will fall in too.
  5. What's the story with C Jordan? Seems like he could play DE for us, is he rising recently because we haven't talked much about him. I thought I saw one mock with him going to the Pats* @ 17 I think?
  6. Maybe - maybe not. I don't know the circumstances of his suspension or if he has any history, so I'll let OBD take care of that. If he's worked hard in the weight room and/or training during his suspension and puts up good numbers at the combine or his pro day, he could get himself drafted higher. I know what you're saying that he is a risk, one that Buddy seems averse to, that's why I would like it to work out in our favor because I believe we could use a dynamic player at OLB with this 3-4. For example, I would like to get Kelsay off the field with a first round pick rather than getting Edwards or Carrington at DE off the field with that pick.
  7. I guess I didn't see as much of Troup down the stretch as I though I would. Maybe I missed something, but it seemd he got less PT as the season went on. Maybe he'll hit the ground running in the off season, but it looked ot me like Chan/Edwards took his reps down as the season went on. I didn't see that as a good sign. Maybe a rotational guy will get picked up while Troup matures, and I agree FA is a better place to get that player, but I don't think we'll be getting the top player available at any position this off season.
  8. I would love it if quinn is the guy as OBD ranks them. Move Moats back inside or outside if Merriman can't go. I also like the idea of a true NT getting selected, because we can then move KW to DE and we have a quality DL with depth, don't know if we need a DE later. Throw in a RT in round 3 and we're on our way.
  9. I think if there is a rookie salary cap the chart would have to change, probably making the top picks more valuable because of the proposed lack of guaranteed money. I was reading somewhere that because so many kids came out last year, this draft class is not too deep. If we move down, hopefully the compensation will mostly be in 2012 picks because it seems like they would be better value.
  10. I think a rookie salary cap will change that, positional value will mean less because the dollars committed will be less. I could easily see Carolina bringing in a vet qb to keep the seat warm for a year so the new staff can evaluate claussen, moore and pike.
  11. While this does seem silly, Whaley is a Pitt guy and could have something in mind for him.
  12. This may be true, but it seems contrary to the thought that Cowher wants an established team with a good qb. Most of those teams have a quality front office already and the owner would not want to blow that up. Seems to me he can't can't have it both ways; either blow it up with your own people or move into a quality organization and be part of the team.
  13. The only trade I'd make with them is Kyle Williams and Lee Evans to swap spots; assuming they will still play a 4-3 with the new regime they may go for it. It weakens us defensively, but that's why we drafted Troup and Carrington. Along with Edwards we have our DL and then we need the RT (2nd), an ilb (3rd) who can cover (don't think D Harris does that much), probably a rotational NT and a TE in round 4. Or we could eliminate some of those needs in FA. In 2012 we fill in whatever holes are left and away we go. Why no, I haven't been smoking, thanks for asking!
  14. I think the issue will be that he was number 1 at juco because he had to transfer after the stolen laptop incident. Talent ain't everything.
  15. I was watching a little at lunch time, was that him getting into a 4 point stance at left end? I only saw about 30 minutes and couldn't hear the announcers, but he looked slow off the ball and USF scored a couple times while I was watching. He didn't seem like a difference maker to me, but that game is the only time I've seen him. Maybe I'll look for more on youtube, but count me among the unimpressed for now.
  16. I agree with no brohm unless injury. Even if the game is lopsided, nothing good can come of Brohm playing. If Brohm does well, you have a controversy all offseason. The coaches see enough of him during practice to know whether or not he is capable of his role on the team.
  17. My 2 cents P1: None P2: RT, OLB(M3) P3: WILB (who can cover) P4: TE (blocker), RB (big thumper type) P6: DT34, OG P9: All others We need lb's on d, we just spent a 2009 2 and a 3 on nt and DE. I'm not on the moats boat just yet, so double down on olb, at least need wise. I believe the names sam and will refer to strong and weak (side) or run stopper and lighter, not so stout. I think we have enough sam's on the roster. We still need the RT and a TE that can block and catch okay. I think Chan really wants to run the ball given his history, so I put a big rb in there. I also threw in a developmental NT and an OG just in case the practice squad grab bag we have now doesn't work out, even though it looks like it could. We have enough at wr I think, and since Fitz and Brohm were pretty much neck-in-neck in camp they probably see enough in Brohm to pass on a developmental guy. Looks like you got 12 cents instead of 2. Merry Christmas Astro.
  18. Please no 4-3. We still don't have a 4-3 end who can rush the passer. We committed 2 draft picks last year to the 3-4 DL and we're moving forward with it. We need at least 2 lb's to get it working okay, and I'm not sold on Moats long term although he may be a short term solution. I wouldn't be suprised if they move him back inside this offseason, especially if he can learn to cover. I think the reason we have a hybrid is because of Kelsay. He is the key because his liability in the passing game forced the coaches to put coverage responsibilities elsewhere. I say keep drafting team captains to take over the leadership role and eventually he'll be seeing less playing time as we add olb talent. His contract is friendly to being cut when we have sufficient talent on the roster. I'm hoping he's cut or traded after next season. I'd love to see us sign Woodley from the Steelers. I don't know how Pit is going to be able to afford him and Timmons (after 2011) along with all the other money they have committed, and I think they like/need Timmons more than Woodley. Pit drafted an olb in 2010 (2nd rnd, J Worilds) so they are prepared if they can't sign Woodley. They have J Harrison on the other olb position signed til 2014. Probably won't happen for the Bills because of the pricetag, but I can still hope.
  19. Because his wife was still alive?
  20. Is it me or have they decided our lb's can't cover?
  21. Moats with a rookie mistake let him get outside.
  22. We need a te that can block well.
  23. If Brohm or Brown aren't good enough, then draft a qb after the first round. If they have enough promise, there shouldn't be a need this year. I'd still like to see what Gailey can do with a top level talented guy, but it doesn't have to be soon unless someone falls into their laps.
  24. I want to say the head to head record againt det/cin doesn't matter. A couple years ago we had lost to SF (had the same overall record) but ended up drafting after them because our strength of schedule was higher implying we were a better team. Has that changed?
