CJ has Jets "on his list" with Gailey there
4BillsintheBurgh replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he cares more about playing well than a big money deal at this point. Paramount to that is a coach who can bring out the best in his talents. I don't think the double R's have shown that they can do that with a player like CJ. Chan, on the other hand has. -
OSU's Cardale Jones considering NFL jump

I agree it makes sense that Jones will start the year, but I will interested to see how much rope Jones gets if things don't go "national championship" well. -

During the recruiting process the player needs to determine the correct place to for them to learn. There are many factors but at least the player makes the choice given the coach and the institution as a package. Kind of like a non-athlete student, looking to get the most for their money from the time in college. -

Urban's kind of tied to it now, although the goal is to win games. Luckily Elliot will still there to help. I was just reading that Jones still came to OSU even though Tressel left, so really he's made his own bed with Urban. Hope it works out for him. -

So you don't think when recruiting that Urban looks for a certain type of qb? Do you think a Russel Wilson and Tom Brady are inter-changeable? I think the college coaches ave their "system" and they go after players to fit what they're doing to try and win as many games as possible. Some skills are interchangeable but from a qb standpoint I think the requirements are a little more stringent, especially if you have a system that works. Would you say that the classes you take in school don't matter? What a students strengths and weaknesses are? Aren't you trying to learn something to help you in the future? And don't you think what you're being taught matters? The coach does not have the responsibility to do anything for the player other than win games for the school. I think when a player commits to a coach you assume they have done the homework to understand what a coach brings to the table in terms of the players career possibilities. And I'm okay with that. My problem is that when a coach changes the player may or may not be released from their commitment free from penalty and I think that stinks for the player. It didn't seem like Jones gets on the field without the two injuries, so what does that say about how Urban views him? Hey, I hope it works out for the kid, but I happen to think he could work on his football skills at the professional level and be further ahead than playing at OSU under Urban Myer. -

The education will be there regardless! He can even do both! He will not always be a 20 something year old athlete with an opportunity to play in the nfl. Looking at Urban's record for developing qb's, it seems to imply he is not maximizing his opportunity to play football at a professional level. I hope he makes it anyway but I don't think he is giving himself the best chance, that's all. -
OSU's Cardale Jones considering NFL jump

I think he would be in a much better place a year from now if he was coached by professionals whose livelihood depended on him getting better. School will be there regardless when he was ready to go back. Because really, the only reason to go back to school at this point is to make more money as a football player. Nothing high and mighty about it. -
I think that was just a symptom of the disconnect. Jordan Palmer is someone who is a good mentor and would not push as much for playing time while was Orton less of mentor and more of a challenge. Which I assume the screaming means that Marrone was not happy with what Monos/Whaley did when Marrone asked for a veteran qb. So DM wants someone who will be able to play because EJ can't win games and DW stills wants EJ to play. Hence the screaming, which is okay behind closed doors is not great out in the open because it means they were not resolved behind closed doors. With the way Rex operates and the org structure, we're probably going to have some similar situations. It will be interesting to see how T/KP handles anything that isn't "external unity".

I don't know why, after all Urban Meyer has done nothing but send qb's in to the nfl ranks. /end sarcasm -

He would replace Tuel on our roster. Do we want to spend a 2nd or even a third rounder on that potential? We really need a franchise qb, but it doesn't look like he'll be ready for a while if ever. I think he needs to come out. It's a tough situation because obviously Meyer didn't believe in him and I would have to think Meyer would not give a glowing recommendation to the NFL for him. I don't see how Meyer could guarantee him the starting position for any period of time next year. I really wish the NCAA would allow these guys to transfer with no consequences when a head coach changes because this kid could use the time on the field for someone that values his skill set. I think the school can let them out of it and I don't know the back story here, but the rules seem to protect the institution instead of the non-paid player. He can always go back and get his degree if he wants to. -
But you use the term "fair". Was the Mario Williams contract "fair"? It was market value on the high end because we were competing with other teams. My point is we can pay some of these guys on the non-hometown discount side of things instead of having to sign the top fa at a position. Not every single one, but the top dollar spend can be directed toward our guys instead of the position du jour. I'm all for filling gaps with a middle to low fa or two but I think that means Mr Pegula will have to create one of the best scouting departments in the league. I am hopeful that will be the biggest changes that we will see.

Cool, thanks.

Actually that is wrong. GMT should be 5 hours ahead. That's why when the forum is displaying it on my client it's taking the 11:35 GMT and converting it to 6:35 EST (-5). I assume this should be fixable via the date/time settings. Edit: Sorry, didn't comprehend your post fully. If you can change the timezone via the date/time clock set, what does it do?
-
I'm doing some googling to try and determine, but I think the server should be on utc (est) because that is what gets sent back to us. Not 100% on that yet. Will send links to pertinent info if found.

Thanks for your effort, it's appreciated. For the time issue, is there another place to set the default timezone? It seems like we're displaying GMT instead of EST.

Schwartz may remain DC...
4BillsintheBurgh replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think i twill be tough for Rex to keep Schwartz (and the rest of our staff) with the considerations for the coaches that have been in NY. I would guess Rex would rather bring the folks he has and keep that coaching group established instead of letting them get jobs around the league. We'll see, Schwartz has been able to get good results from this group, but I think from a long term standpoint Rex goes with his guys. If there had been a first time head coach who didn't have those coaches I think it would have been a better fit for Schwartz. We'll see. -
I don't know if I'm Pegula that I want to go with a young up and comer in my first go around for hiring a coach. I would rather go with an established guy that has won and can bring the mentality to get the front office working together toward a championship. I don't know if Whaley can provide that from his side given the relationship with Marrone, even with what he knows from Pittsburgh.

Good luck, may the force be with you.

I second that. I'm tired of playing for next year and I'm tired of that attitude. -
Would you trade a 5th for Josh Gordon?

I don't know if we have a qb to keep him happy.
