  1. I'm sure they've poll-tested the phrase "spending freeze" and learned that it generates a positive response. Leave it to him to raise spending by dramatic amounts and then use a "freeze" so that he can maintain it.
  2. Not only a list of what has been done but also the benefits of each.
  3. What you must say to win a party nomination, the general election and then re-election are all very different things. Right now we're in the phase between election and re-election which is a phase where you can break promises and do the unexpopular because there will be a new set of promises and objectives assembled for the re-election campaign.
  4. The only good argument I've heard in support of a "holiday" is a scenario where the banks put borrowers on an interest only payment for a period ( 2-3 years). The benefit to the bank would be fewer defaults and possibly better forclosure recoveries if housing values rebound some during that time. Cash flow for the banks would be negatively impacted though.
  5. This has been the only support that lefties on this board give for Obama's policies. I have yet to see any fact or even well founded opinion based support by any of the lefties on this board for the big decisions Obama has made thus far.
  6. Look again and take off the "I can't stand Favre" blinders.
  7. Yeah, it wasn't catch from what I saw. Bobbled, touch ground and scooped up into a body laying on the turf. Tough break for the Vikings, they have a team that could win it all. Happy for the New Orleans community for getting to the big game for their first time.
  8. A wonderful suggestion full of common sense and cost effective.
  9. Dick friggin Durbin was on face the nation this AM. Guy is in total denial that most Americans don't want their version of health care reform. Guy's an idiot. A Parrot. I can't believe we keep electing him here in Illinois, but of course we elect a number of worthless politician's in this state. I'm calling his office tomorrow to raise hell with whoever answers the phone.
  10. When he uses the words "average Americans" and "middle class" he is not referring to average middle class people. He's referring moreso to the unproductive class who are the new "middle and average classes" to this administration.
  11. The health care reforms put together by both the Senate and House are not popular simply because they are expensive, poorly designed and deceitful solutions to the issue. That should be obvious to anyone that has paid attention to their content and the process by which they have been assembled.
  12. I wouldn't say Obama has screwed up. He simply doesn't know any different. His only real expertise (aside from speech writing and speech giving are in the areas of civil rights and social justice. He's shown that he's willing to push his agenda at any cost without regard for the consequences that come with that. He talks abot special interests but really the current liberal/progressive/democratic agenda is all about special interests. I'm a union member, I want secial treatment I'm a minority, I want preferential treatment I'm and illegal alien, I have rights and want special treatment I'm at the bottom of the economic ladder, I want the governemt to give me free health care I'm gay, I want my rights improved I'm a terrorist, protect my rights and fund my legal defense I'm a governmet employee, exempt me from the health care bill I can't pay my mortgage, help me pay for it. And on and on....................... This is what the guy stood for during the campaign, he's exactly who we thought he was. He's exactly who so many voted for. He's exactly wrong on most issues and he's unqualified to be a President and he has surrounded himself with people cut from the same cloth. In the words of Dennis Green, "The Chicago Bears, they're exactly who we thought they were".
  13. Maybe not. Scott Brown is in a great position to stand on the Senate floor, scratch his head, explain that he's the new guy and isn't really sure how all this works and then talk about some real common sense ideas. It looks to me like he comes in with little or no political baggage, doesn't owe a bunch of people favors and practical grasp of the issues. He might be a catalyst for change that people are looking for.
  14. I don't think you can get through a logical discussion of about health insurance without concluding that it should not be tied to employment whatsoever. The system as it is setup currently is just dumb with changing or losing a job forcing somebody's hand in terms of the coverage they can and can't get. If health insurance were sold like homeowners or car insurance, people would be able to choose exactly the coverage they want. Many, would choose higher deductible plans which are much more affordable and will save money for most. Our society has become accustomed to having "someone else" pay for health insurance or health care servces. Like most things that are "free" they get abused or are not appreciated I guarantee you that if families and individuals were paying for their own plans, they would make smart choices in coverage which in turn would cause providers to offer different insurance products. Yes, this is a big change to how coverage is delivered now, but through tax code and some regulatory changes, this to me is by far the best answer. As an employer, I would gladly pay a tax (if reasonible) for each employee which could in turn be used to fund tax incentives for individuals. Going to the doctor for a routine checkup and having an insurance claim processed for this = dumb Paying for "dollar one" coverage in the event you need an inexpensive procedure performed= dumb Being limitied to whatever choices your employer offers = dumb Losing coverage and having to go through COBRA while unemployed = dumb Not being able now to easly buy an individual policy outside of an employer group = dumb Funding small potatoes dental coverage = dumb Not being able to change carriers if you're not happy with their service = dumb Having to find emploment to get coverage = dumb Dragging people to the doctor for every little thing because it's "free" = dumb Having doctor choices limited based on the carrier = dumb Allowing employer to choose coverage and set rates for employees = dumb Not making individuals financially responsble for maintaining their own health = dumb
  15. Everyone but her husband. He likes her travel schedule. Can you imagine waking up next to her every morning?
  16. Expect more media consolodation if your friends at most large metro newspapers and most TV networks continue to publish what you want to hear.
  17. They can't understand that profits = jobs. Jobs = increase in GDP and tax revenue Increase in tax revenue = more money for government spending Some day libs will figure out that big business is their best friend.
  18. Smart voters in both parties can simply vote out incumbents/candidates that won't support spending cuts. Let's get smart people.
  19. One thing we do know is that the current majority in Congress and the White house will not be the ones to "find the fortitude to eliminate their pet projects, freeze out their benefactors and cut spending"
  20. What a shame. That station could have cured insomnia which would lower health care costs. I don't think it would be possible to stay awake during any of their segments.
  21. Got it. Now I understand why the top bracket needs to go back to 70%
