  1. I like what Palin stands for but I don't think she's Presidential material. This country is the land of equal opportunity and not the land of equal achievement. The American Government needs to never lose sight of this.
  2. Obama is living proof that a high intellect does not translate into effective leadership and sound solutions to big issues. I'm still waiting for you and the other libs on this board to defend what Obama and this congress is doing. Tell us why his solutions are good ones. No doubt, the left is under attack for their current policies. It's the policies and decisions that are being attacked. What is so disappointing is that virtually nobody from the left will hear the attacks and respond with a decent defense of the policies and decisions themselves. Instead we hear about Palin writing on her hand. So what? She's attacking liberal policies and the left simply responds about her writing on her hand. It's these responses and a lack of support for the tax and spend policies that will lead to a change to the balance of power in Congress and ultimately the White house. That's where we're headed. If you and your lefty friends don't like that, I strongly suggest you find a way to build real support for your agenda. Sell your agenda on the merits. Don't bother playing that "independent" card. You're not one of them.
  3. Simple. What Obama says and what he does are two different things. If he were serious about fiscal responsibility, he wouldn't have just unveiled his $3.8 trillion budget. He's actually be making big cuts. While you might call the people who feel the stimulis bill was too small "intelligent" and "reasonible", there was never a chance that the bill as it was designed would have produced favorable results regardless of the size. It is/was a piece of garbage that did little to "stimulate" the economy. It did, however, provide for the hiring of hundreds of thousands of new federal employees, the cost of which will burden taxpayers for a long tme. The government cannot save an economy through spending money it doesn't have. The numbers don't lie.
  4. You're not going to get much support for Bush here or anywhere. Old news. What's the point? This thread is about a balanced budget bill. Common sense. I'm sure you support it.
  5. Really like DeMint. It's be interesting to see how far this bill goes. If it gets Republican support but not from Dems, it'll be a great campaign piece for Republicans come November. We've reached a time where spending has to be dramatically cut. The numbers are so far out of whack and we simply can't afford the path we're on. I expect some Dems to begin talking the cuts agenda this fall. I really do.
  6. Fukk China. I'm all for open trade, but with our job and economic condition here, maybe it's time we made a new commitment to more manufacturing here. Yes, it might mean higher prices on some goods but the overall benefit might be worth it. This really goes against what I believe but we've got to take care of our own house.
  7. Rahm has a severe case of "short man's" disease.
  8. We have over 100 Nuclear power plants in the US now. Great safety record since the early days. Nuclear plants have the largest initial cost to build but produce electricity at the lowest long term cost. This equals more jobs (many union) due to longer construction cycles. Nuclear plants can be built in more locations than solar and wind. You get a nice recreation business in and around the cooling lakes. Politics has to have much to do with the recent change by this administration. Couldn't be just on the merits of these facilities. That would be way too common sense.
  9. Agree. Now let's see how many other good cuts are done. They could find a trillion dollars with a little work.
  10. Obama's on the job training continues. He's quickly learning that there is a gigantic difference between theory studied in an environment like Harvard and the real world. Good news that we're taking this action toward Iran's threats.
  11. Funny stuff! Washington keeps handing the writers at SNL a lot of material.
  12. The reason most people won't take your "wait and see" approach is that he's making decisions that don't solve problems. Even worse is that even ordinary people look at his policies and decisions and know his solutions won't work before they enacted. 1. Recovery act = failure and most who were "in the know" knew it would fail. 2. Cap and Trade = big tax increase and burden on consumers and energy producers. Not a big job creator and does nothing to reduce foreign oil dependency. 3. Cash for clunkers, expense short term auto subsidy. Nothing to help the domestic industry long term and increases defecit. 4. KSM trial in NY and Miranda rights for undie bomber. Terrible decisions, gives worls stage to 9/11 mastermind and limited are opportunity to get intelligence about Yemen based enemies.\ 5. Health care reform - Giant tax increases, not revenue neutral even with those tax increases, lacks common sense approaches, not supported by majority of Americans. Someone who took good notes of each day of his Presidency could fill several pages with more questionable decisions and judgements. He's like Dick Jauron, you just know he isn't going to win and you can see it in most of the things he says and does.
  13. I agree he should go. Where and when are the big questions.
  14. Illegal or not, ACORN doesn't look like a good place for taxpayers to invest money. As for the idiots that broke into the Senator's office, they'll get what they deserve.
  15. Right now Obama looks like a 1-term President. How far he's fallen in just 6 months. Plenty of time for him to rebound. Not necessarily because he'll get his policy act together, but because of a change in the political climate or a royal fukk up by Republicans. He can afford to piss off the very far left as they'll never vote for a Republican. He'll need the middle ground Democrats and independents to get re-elected and in order to win their support, he'll likely have to piss off the far left which goes against his core beliefs. Should be interesting to watch.
  16. Yes. Politically speaking, I think Republicans should support gays in the Military and civil unions for gays (don't call it marriage). We've got bigger fish to fry and the time and energy spent arguing over this is not worth it IMO.

  18. The speech had a more non-partisan tone which I thought was good. Surprised to hear him mention nuclear power plants and oil drilling. It was a bit "all things to all people" and would require huge spending to do it all. I thought the Republican response was very weak. Sometimes it's better to say nothing. What happens or not beginning tomorrow matters a lot more.
  19. Obama is criticized more for what he's doing to solve the issues rather than the results at this point. It's the lack of confidence and common sense in his approach. The lack of results will simply validate the concerns, but that will only cost the taxpayers trillions so no big deal.
  20. I think it was established a long tme ago that Bush was unpopular and not very effective at many things. His approval rate late in his term was under 20%. That's meaningless now. My point is that Obama defenders continue to point to Bush as a reason why Obama is OK. Poppycock. Bush is no longer relevant. It's Obama's policies that are being attacked and if anyone cares to defend Obama's policies and decisions, do so with pointing the finger at Bush. Defend his actions on the merits of his actions.
  21. Seriously, a spending "freeze" simply protects his ability to continue spending at the current elevated rate. If he were serious about addressing our deficit, he'd realize that he needs to dramatically slash spending. A freeze is not a positive step as it will generate more deficits and more debt. The only way to get rid of the deficit is to cut spending. Big cuts. He can't raise taxes enough to cover the problem and that would the economy. Historical data shows that tax revenues are closely tied to GDP regardless of the rate of taxation and raising taxes generally reduces GDP. He and his agenda are fukked. As a nation we can afford the nannie state that he wants, although I expect him and Congress to keep pushing that. By looking at the numbers, it is painfully obvious that we have to dramatically cut the size of government and work to grow the economy. Obama does not have a Clinton economy to work with to fund his agenda.
  22. Doctors aren't judges. Their job is too save people. However, in this era of health care reform and with the interest in lowering costs, maybe Doctors should check the criminal backgrounds and immigration status of patients before treating people. We could save a bundle in health care costs and in other entitlement programs as well if we let 'em die plus it could lower the crime rate.
  23. Really stupid if true. Kid got greedy. Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered.
