Whaley was not a strong personality and McD initially stepped into that vacuum, then brought in his buddy Beane to solidify his position. Sadly, I agree with this. Sad, because I think Rosen has the talent to be something special. And we've watched countless Bills teams pass up talent over the years because of coaching philosophies that ultimately didn't get the job done. Maybe McD will break that pattern and Allen will be the next Jim Kelly/Cam Newton. I hope so. But McBeane's legacy will always be linked to how their decision plays out...

Just an arm to help them get through rookie orientation camp, which I believe should be coming up. Last year they signed a QB named Dan Collins from Maine just for this camp...

Agreed. Tim Murray was the one who put the kibbosh on Lafontaine. Murray basically pulled a power play and told Pegs he wanted complete control over the roster and no interference from Pat. Lafontaine lost the power struggle and bolted, simple as that...

I'm waiting to see McD grow beyond being a defensive coordinator-type head coach. The NFL is littered with ex HC's that were great coordinators who made an initial splash when given the top job, but who ultimately didn't/couldn't handle the big picture. This will be a very interesting year, especially if the Bills get off to a tough start due to their opening schedule. I'm looking for McD to continue growing as a HC, but that's still a big unknown...

So, reading Vic Carruci's article in today's BN and connecting the dots, it simply appears that McD did not want Russ to have anything to do with the draft and/or war room. I wonder if the polarization on Allen comes from draft sites that only looked at his 2017 video? (which, admittedly, is what I initially looked at as well) The 2016 video is much more encouraging. He looks like a legit first round prospect based off of those games. Whereas the 2017 video shows a guy who might be more of a day two pick. Even adjusting for the lack of talent Wyoming had last year, the bad mechanics and poor decision making in 2017 are concerning. Still, the entire body of work over two years is illuminating, and I'm hopeful the Bills got it right this time. Bring on training camp...

Agree 100%. Which makes it doubly amazing that so many posters continue to fart out "it's Brandon's fault that the Bills have stunk" and expect anyone to take them seriously about anything else...

They won 7 or more games only four times over that period. In the 17-year "drought" era, they won a total of 112 games or 6.5 per year (0.412 win %). In nine of those years, they had 7 or more victories. They won 4 games or less only two times. IMO, mediocre (2000-17) was a lot more palatable than bad (1967-79), and I too have been here through all that frustration...
