I hope so. Keeping my fingers crossed.

They have more talent than the Bills, but their weakness is arrogance.

Agreed. My BS meter tweaked a bit at first, but when he clarified with Spiller it subsided. They both seem like pretty straight shooters. Gailey doesn't seem like he's afraid to point out deficiencies in players that need work.

Is this draft proof Maybin was not Nix's idea?

Are you really complaining about a 4th round draft pick this vociferously? Really? -
Round 6, Pick #192: DE Danny Batten S. Dakota State
todd replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm surprised a mephisto like you doesn't work in the NFL. You are apparently an under appreciated NFL talent evaluator. Either that or a parrot who can only regurgitate familiar names. Fuggin moron. -
I'd like to have him, but not for a top 10 pick. He's going to miss 5 or 6 games this year to begin with, so that reduces his value. Not only that, he's one screw up away from a year off. Huge risk, and not worth a top 10. Maybe a 2nd and a low round pick. Or swap firsts and add a 5th.

Excellent notion. It is always a good idea for rebuilding teams to create further deficiencies at a position with little depth. Cut Eric Wood while we're at it. He clearly can't stay healthy.

What have the Bills done that has impressed you?
todd replied to BillsfaninFl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm satisfied because I like that the team is resisting the knee-jerk reaction to get mediocre FAs. I'm also glad they are taking a measured approach regarding RFAs, because that could get VERY expensive in a hurry. Gives me the sense that they feel our draft picks are gold, and shouldn't be easily parted with. The jets did well this past year, but their lack of draft picks is going to KILL them. It will force them to continue to dip into FA in the future, and not have young quality building blocks to depend on. That spells trouble. -
Manufactured facts backed by insanity.

But you've gotta have a damn good one, first round or not. There's no debating that, so don't bother.

While Nix & Co. enjoy Easter weekend, Skins steal McNabb
todd replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why the hell would the Bills make a trade if he wouldn't sign an extension? Seriously, what is your reasoning? I'd love to hear it. My guess is there is no logic behind your bizarre opinion. It would have been great if McNabb came here and signed an extension for a few years. Without an extension, the two picks required for the trade would have been a complete waste. Please tell me how two picks for a 1 year QB would be a good thing. -
Begging you guys to keep the April Foold posts to a minimum

I'll second that. Please, no. -
OMG so funny! Moron.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the QB that was throwing to them. Nah, that is clearly unimportant.

UPDATED: Tim Tebow, QB, Denver Broncos
todd replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure how funny it is that someone told him to shut up, but man do I find his obnoxious in-your-face style of faith to be annoying. I don't attempt to force my views on others, and I don't think he should, either. To me all it does is show a myopic view of faith, and the promotes standard evangelical line that everyone else should be the same as them and can't imagine that anyone else would be different. -
Importance and evolution of the Left Tackle

Interesting, now I've really got to read that book. Statistics without context are useless, however if someone points me to a book about football, I'm all over it. -
Importance and evolution of the Left Tackle

If you have the book, check out the 5th chapter and the 9th chapter. The 2nd chapter is packed as well. Those are all about line play, not to mention the stuff sprinkled through the rest of the book. Not sure how long ago you read the book. -

All I'm saying is you need both. The real idiots are those who think we can continue to ignore the line. -

I will read it. I don't own a jump to conclusions mat. -

I don't think I typed anywhere that we need to draft someone in the first round for LT. All I said was that without a LT, it doesn't matter what FA QB we pick up or who we draft. Find me a rookie QB or one of the current vet FAs that could do well without a capable LT. Read my post again. C-A-P-A-B-L-E is the word I used to describe the LT the Bills need. It is often interchanged with words like competent and serviceable. I don't know how you got Pro-bowl out of that. So an LT is very important, and your post is bunk. -
I didn't see The Blind Side movie, but I just finished the book. Since I didn't see the movie, I will say the book had a boatload of research and information on the evolution and importance of the LT position, how defensive and offensive philosophies have influenced the position. Definitely more football research and history than I expected. The book isn't really about Michael Oher as much as it is about the Left Tackle position. I was expecting a puff piece about human drama -- you know, the Oprah Book Club kind of dreck -- but it was really a FOOTBALL book with a little human interest thrown in. The result is it really confirmed for me that the only real choice Buffalo has is to somehow get a left tackle. We have no business trading for or drafting a QB unless there's a capable LT to go along with him. The book also changed my mind about Jason Peters, and how we maybe should have paid the guy. It also reinforced my belief that Dick Jauron along with the front office was vastly unprepared in their plan to replace him. And it makes me think that Turk S. was fired because he saw the coming colossal failure quite clearly and pushed the issue. I encourage every football fan, especially those that think that finding a QB will fix all of our ills, to read the book.

Did the D&C stop covering the Bills?
todd replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My opinion is congruent with yours. I must admit that I will occasionally tune in to his show on the way home from work. My commute is 15 minutes max. That's enough, especially when I get to hear him spend 15 minutes on the exceedingly popular sport of regional horse racing. -

But why not bring up Matthews? :-) Every paper needs a writer who only covers horse racing! -
And he got STUPID money for it. 7 mil this year? Totally not worth it, so I'm glad the Bills didn't sign him. Delhomme would have been a good stopgap, but not for that money.

Unless he's a rookie. Even Manning sucked as a rookie. I would say you need a great o-line if you are going to start a rookie, or you could ruin him. Since I don't see any great QBs available via FA, and drafting a QB is a crapshoot (anyone who thinks otherwise might want to think again), our safest bet is to somehow make the o-line at least adequate. It really should be the priority, but I don't see it yet.
