I suggest listening to Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard. They go over the WCW purchase and final Nitro episode in a couple of their podcasts. See episode 19. The basic jist of why a separate WCW brand would not work is the lack of talent from WCW. Remember, WCW had guaranteed contracts. A majority of the top WCW stars (Sting, Goldberg, Hall, Nash etc.) had long term guaranteed contracts. For them to come under the WWE umbrella, WWE was not going to buy their existing contracts. The WCW talent would need to renegotiate new contracts at a reduced pay. For the top guys, why would you give up guaranteed money when you can sit at home and earn the money that Turner/Old WCW still owed you. It is similar to when a coach gets fired in the NFL. Even though they are fired, they are still guaranteed their money. Also, there is no guarantee that the top guys would even want to come to the WWE. The WWE schedule was much more intense than WCW. Look at the talent that came over from WCW to WWE. It was a bunch of jobbers and mid card talent sans Booker T (although, Booker T was just starting to become a top guy). I do not think there was enough star power for a WCW only show. Another reason was the WCW brand was a dead brand on arrival. If WCW was such a good brand, it would not have went out of business. The ratings and product towards the end was absolutely atrocious. As far as AEW, it is all about a TV contract for them. If they want to survive they need decent TV exposure. There is no way any new wrestling promotion is going to compete with WWE without a decent TV contract. Impact Wrestling was a decent product but their TV contract just got worse and worse. They had a lot of talent (AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, The Hardys). They went from Spike to Destination America to POP to some unknown network. Other factors are that WWE seems to signing top indie talent and just stashing them in NXT or in developmental. WWE can afford to sign talent which then prevents a rival promotion from using them. I hope AEW succeeds but I think it is a huge mountain to climb. Luckily they have some deep pockets with the Khans.

There was a tv show on AMC in 2010 called Rubicon. It only lasted one season but I thought it was fantastic. The shows concept is basically the same as what you laid out in this paragraph.

I ordered this through Amazon and received it over the weekend. I thumbed through it briefly and it has amazing illustrations. It is a fun way to learn about the history of wrestling. It has a really cool map laying out the various territories and who the top guys were in said territory. One source is the former IC officer and I am guessing the other source is from Louie Gohmert (or his office) since he was name checked in the article multiple times. Elway's statement is out of context here. The trade offer was made BEFORE the whole National Anthem thing. Elway's statement is dishonest. Also, Denver's trade offer was contingent on Kaepernick trimming his guaranteed salary from $11.9 million to $7 million. San Fran was not going to pay the difference so the trade would have been a pay cut on his guaranteed money. I don't care what your feelings for him are but no one in their right mind would take a pay cut for their guaranteed money. Definitely not in the NFL where contracts are worthless and the only thing that means anything is the guaranteed money.

What a fun show. Since we were so close I caught a t-shirt from Matt Hardy mid-match. I gave it to a kid for karma points. My wife later caught a Roman Reigns glove that she gave to the same kid behind us. That kid cleaned up. On a side note, Braun Strowman is massive!!! If you have never been, I highly recommend it. Also, if you can afford it, try to sit as close as possible at least once. It was really cool being that close and being able to interact with the wrestlers. A very entertaining night. I think even my wife enjoyed it. Money well spent.

I am going to a Raw Brand house show Saturday night. I am pretty excited about it. The listed main event is Reigns vs Ziggler for the IC championship which I guarantee will end in a DQ with McIntrye interfering. House shows are the best though. I will be sitting 2nd row ringside which should be really cool. I have never sat that close before. Do any of you guys listen to the old school wrestling podcasts like Something to Wrestle With, 83 Weeks, and What Happened When? If you do not, I highly recommend them.

My first job out of college was for a defense contractor. I had to obtain a Secret clearance. The company I worked for had to pay for it. When I left that company, I was told my Secret clearance would be inactive and then expire after a year I believe. Since I had an inactive clearance, I assume I would have been a more favorable candidate for another defense contractor because they wouldn't have to pay for me to go back thru the process of applying. I soon realized that was why a lot of the people that worked for this company were ex-military. The ex-military people already had a clearance so that was one less thing for the company to pay for.

The tariffs on metal has reared its ugly head at my work. Our customer mandates that all the fabricated material that we make equipment out of be sourced with US materials. We use a lot of aluminum. Our vendor that fabricates a lot of our parts called to inform us that the US metal market is jacking up their prices to match the increased Chinese prices due to tariffs. As an example, a 1/2" plate of US aluminum has gone up 65% in the last few weeks. I work for a very small company and the increase in material cost due to US metal companies jacking up their prices to match Chinese metal is going to take a nice junk out of profit margin. Maybe we can reclassify as a farmer and get some of that sweet corporate welfare money.

DR, I have noticed reading through a lot of the threads (Deep State, Illegal Immigration, QAnon) that a common theme that always shows up is human trafficking or the child sex trade. At the bottom of your post, there is a circle around Hillary Clinton & Foundation, and Crime Against Children. I look at that and assume Crime Against Children are in relation to Anthony Weiner, since he had a thing for sending lewd things to underage girls. Are you hinting that the Crime Against Children is really tied to the Clinton Foundation? Is this another Pizzagate type situation?

I work with Carl. The firing has been quite the story at work. I would just say I don't think he should have gotten fired but it makes me chuckle that he did. I have heard a few times at work that karma is a B word. He can be a real pain to work with as he is very hard headed and can try to intimidate people. In his defense though, he had a few studs on his team. One played in the All-American game in San Antonio that was aired on NBC recently. I'm sure it stroked his ego that he was getting calls from top college programs and coaches about some of his players. His son was on the team so that is why there was a post game party at his house. I don't know what else he could have done to prevent kids from bringing alcohol to his house. Maybe he should have had some TSA agents search the kids. High school football is big in the Tidewater area so this is a big story. Especially when you throw in the undefeated and State Championship angle. I'm sure there is more to the firing than both sides are saying but Carl's Real Man line was classic.

Good ol' Gov. Vaginal Probe wants to spend more tax payer money for a stadium. As a resident of Virginia, there are plenty of things that tax payer money should go to before a stadium namely roads and another bridge-tunnel crossing for Hampton Roads. Maybe Gov. Vaginal Probe can get one of his cronies that paid for his daughter's wedding to foot the bill instead of working Virginians. Enough with the sports franchise owners holding communites hostage for new arenas and stadiums. The NFL is a billion dollar industry. The Redskins are one of the most profitable franchises. Let Snyder pay for his stadium and not some bogus private-public financing. I think Virginia has already given the Redskins enough in public funds with luring them to Richmond for their training camp.
