  1. Since this thread is up, I guess I need to make my annual anti-Syracuse rant. How many SUNY schools does Jimmy B have lined up this year to pad his non-conference schedule? And let me guess, the farthest they travel is NYC unless it a conference game? Same thing every year. Just some friendly ribbing, Go Bonnies!!!
  2. I have had both ACLs reconstruced (2001 and 2006). I am lucky like that. I had the patellar tendon method done. I believe that is the most common reconstruction method. ACL reconstruction is very common these days and orthopedic surgeons have it down to a science. Depending on your age and how active you are will play in to whether or not to get surgery. I was 20 and 25 at the time so I got them cut because I still wanted to play sports. I get soreness in my knees occasionally after exercising and I imagine I will need to get them cleaned out at some point. If you do get cut, find a physical therapist that you are comfortable with and is good. I had a lot of knee pain the first time around during rehab but the second time around rehab went fine. I guess practice makes perfect. Be prepared because the first few months are not fun especially the first few weeks. Good luck either way.
  3. Maybe he is getting back on the juice. Look out for a 14 sack year followed by a suspension.
  4. The trade deadline is too early in the year. The trade deadlines for other sports are later in the year when teams can offcially give up on their season. WRT the Bills, if they traded someone and got a bag of pucks back you would complain. They are in a no win sitch.
  5. The MLS, where old Euro league stars go to die. On a side note: What ever happened to the push for a MLS franchise in Rochester? When I was going to college there, it was always on the cusp. Any word?
  6. Is it really that far fetched? All the businesses around the Cavs arena probably made a killing on game nights. Full arena and other people going out to watch the game. How would this be any different say of the Sabres or Bills moved? LeBron was that franchise. Everyone is assuming that the team will return to its losing ways. Attendence will drop and less people will frequent the businesses around the arena. A lot of people (bars, street vendors, etc.) will be hurt. It is sad that something like sports can have that much effect but that is just the way it is.
  7. Jesse Jackson once again proves his stupidity. I saw the headline on SI.com this morning and had to click on it. How can good old Jesse spin this into a racial thing? I think the Cavs owner is fuming mad because he realizes that his team's franchise value just dropped a few $100 million dollars. Comparing professional sports owners to slave owners is ludicrious. Who wouldn't want to be a "million dollar slave"? This wasn't just a "Employee - Employer" thing. Gilbert probably viewed LeBron as part of his family, the Cavs family. I thought the player/slave card was tired when professional athletes play it but this schmuck needs to stir it up. I hope someone calls Jesse on this and he has to issue a public apology for this trash. Could Gilbert sue Jackson for deformation? I am tired of Jesse spouting off at the mouth. What good things has Jesse Jackson done in the community lately? How about he starts putting his money where his mouth is and start donating some of his money that he has earned profiting off the plight of others into the community. He just swoops in whenever it is convenient. What a vulture.
  8. I have no qualms with LeBron going to Miami. This is a bidness. I believe it was Jerry Seinfeld who said in the end we are all just rooting for laundry. As far as the Cavs owner, I think his anger comes from how much the value of his franchise is going to drop. The King can make you, and the King can break you.
  9. FYI ESPN3 will be showing the major European leagues sans EPL starting in August.
  10. This is not an option. This likely is the last year before a new CBA comes out which would limit max deals and money. That is why some players opted out of their deals so they could cash in before a new deal is in place. Remember that he will be an old 28. The age is not an issue but the number of games and minutes are, see Kevin Garnett. The high school to NBA guys have a lot more mileage on their legs than the more traditional player who spent some time in college.
  11. So ironing isn't women's work?
  12. I think he goes to Chicago. They have the best team for him to go to and win instantly. Teams can have multiple dynastys in different eras. See the Lakers. Sure it might be wierd playing in a stadium with a Jordan statue out front but who cares. He will be compared to Jordan no matter where he plays. No to Miami because who is going to take the last shot, Wade or LeBron? Too many egos involved. Nets and Knicks are years away from winning. Cleveland has maxed out with the talent they have there and they have no way of bringing in new talent due to other contract situations.
  13. 1. Nirvana - From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah (Live) 2. Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album) 3. Ben Folds - Supersunnyspeedgraphic: The LP 4. Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) 5. Notorious BIG - Life After Death (2-Discs)
  14. I am talking about America. How many poor kids in America do you see kicking a soccer ball around? I understand in other countries where soccer is all they have, the poor population can play it. The soccer system in America is set up where everyone can play at lower levels but once you get older it moves to travel teams and elite club teams. Poor kids cant afford to play higher level soccer.
  15. I will chime in on the soccer "Is this the year it takes hold?" argument. I am 29 and have played soccer since the age of 5. I like to watch soccer but I am not delusional about it. I know that a majority of the society does not like to watch it. I have no problem with that. Unless you like it, it can be a boring sport to watch. I get Fox Soccer Channel so I know where I can watch games. It will never take hold in America. It is a niche sport much like hockey. Sure hockey got a boost from the Olympic run of the US team but come next year the fervor will die down. The MLS is a 2nd or 3rd tier league. In the other sports, the US based leagues are the best in the world. The MLS is a good league for young players to cut their teeth and a nice place for older players to end their careers. Like the Olympics, this is the best of the best. It is always better to watch that. How many people are going to tune in on a Thursday night to watch Real Salt Lake take on the Houston Dynamo. Not many. ESPN had a set night for MLS games two years ago but the ratings were horrible so now they show games randomly during the week. ESPN is beginning to show EPL and Spanish League games on tv now which is nice for people who like to watch soccer but still the fringe person will not watch it. The best athletes in the US are not playing soccer. In many other countries, soccer and baseball are the only sports they play. In the US, the best athletes are going into football, basketball, or baseball. The other problem is that soccer like lacrosse and hockey are not a very easy sport for the poor to play. Why does soccer have to be so popular in the US? I think this World Cup is a good indication that the strangle hold of soccer power is no longer a European thing. More and more non-Europeans are playing in the top level leagues in Europe. Parity is reaching the soccer scene. As someone said earlier in the thread, only a few set of nations have won the World Cup lately. Maybe that will change in the future as the world gets better (see more non-Americans in basketball) Having said that, that goal by Donovan was awesome. Rant over.
  16. I view the reason weed is illegal as the same reason sports gambling is illegal. The gov't cannot properly tax it because the gov't cannot control it. You can go to a bookie or a drug dealer to get them. With alcohol and tobacco, you go to a store.
  17. The Duke lacrosse case had an element of race in it. Poor black stripper vs the elitist white Dukies. The DA helped to fuel that fire though. I never did hear any apologies from those same media outlets after they trashed the Duke players. I guess it was time to move onto the next stupid scandal.
  18. I think George Lopez will be happy with the move to midnight as he will most likely have a larger audience feeding into his show. Having said that, I dont get what the big fuss is about either. Conan and Leno play to different crowds anyways. I think Conan's lack of success initially was due to the Tonight Show audience not really being Conans target audience. Conan can move to TBS where his followers will follow and build an audience there. Conan got paid a nice chunk of money for the NBCs stupidity so I wouldnt feel too bad for him. I think the interesting battle now will be between Conan and the Comedy Central team of Stewart and Colbert. Those shows have the same audience. I imagine most will just DVR one or the other or catch the re-air on Comedy Central the following day.
  19. I think the lack of coverage is that it is a lacrosse player. If it was the starting QB for a top 25 team in college football there would def be more coverage. I have heard more discussion on the culture of lacrosse players in general since this incident. There was a article on deadspin which painted lacrosse players in a very broad stroke. The authors argument was that your typical lacrosse player comes from a privelidged background and they attend all-boys private schools or upscale public schools that are lacrosse factories for the college level. The players have a "I am above the law" attitude. Are lacrosse players alittle more cocky than other athletes? Maybe but any athlete who is playing their sport at a high level is cocky. The star athlete always plays by different rules than the average athlete or person. Just the way things are.

  21. I think this is going to be the last year that Steve Young is on the draft panel. He was talking over everyone. Berman was getting mad, Jackson was getting mad and his mic clip broke and he looked like he was going to cry. ESPN had too many people on the set. It was a giant cluster F. It should be Berman, TJ, and Kiper. Gruden LOVED everyone and Young would just ramble on. Best moment is Berman going nuts on camera waving his arms with the Why? face when they cut back from the Armed Forces tribute early. When the tribute began, Young was in the middle of one of his many long winded rants. It was not a very good show by ESPN.
  22. The only draw back with the game being on Versus is you are subjected to the play by play of Jack Edwards. Pound for pound the worst announcer in the league.
  23. Tiki must have gotten some advice from Marsha Brady
  24. Bide-A-Wee in P-Town. Bullet proof vests are optional.
