College football starts this weekend and with it the football gambling season begins. I know there are some fellow gamblers out there. I guess that is one of the benefits of not watching the game in the US. I couldnt understand what my announcers were saying (they were speaking german). They showed Kobe go over and give someone with a headset on a hug. It must have been Collins. Kobe did take some ill-advised shot in that stretch where Spain got back into the game. Both Kobe and Wade hit huge shots though at the end. At times the US got lazy on defense but when they needed a stop they buckled down and got it. For those that care, France is up 8 on Iceland in the Men's Handball final w/ 10 minutes to go in the 2nd. How come the US cant get a handball team together? It actually looks kind of fun.

A nice win by the US. Whenever Spain got close, they got a stop on D then someone would hit a big 3 at the other end. It was nice to see the players so excited after they won. I guess they are "The Redeem Team."

This team was made a few years ago when Kidd was still relevant as a point guard. I think they start him out of respect for what he has done for basketball. Kidd was exposed by Paul last year in the playoffs and is on the decline. The pick and roll is killing the US.

Boxing is dead as a sport. It only has a hardcore following in the US. The heavyweight division is terrible. The only champion in the heavyweight division I know of is one of the Klitchko brothers. No one grows up now wanting to be a boxer. Get punched in the head a bunch of times or play a different sport. I wish boxing would make a comeback. As someone else said though, the scoring system is stupid. I see boxing in the same light as the other Olympic sports like track and field, swimming, and gymnastics. No one cares about them only when the Olympics roll around. The best athletes do not go into these sports anymore. Everyone is banging on the US track and field for getting beat by Jamaica but maybe Jamaica puts all their funding into track and field. Does anyone watch track and field on a regular basis. The only meets I hear of are the Penn Relays and the Prefontaine meet.

The game is getting alittle rough which is nice to see. Spain switched to a zone and the US cannot get a bucket to get them out of it. I am glad they got Kidd out of there, he was getting used by Navarro. The US has got to hit those threes.

Jason Kidd is black. That is exactly my point, I could care less what color skin someone is in sports or anything else. But some journalists love throwing the race card around when it fits their agenda. I don't recall that much of a fuss raised about the Olympic hockey teams which are probably 99% white but someone always says "this sport needs more diversity or that sport needs more diversity." Maybe I am just swinging and missing. I think this team will beat Spain by double digits. The interesting story is the team going forward. The players had a 3 year commitment which started in 2006 I believe. I think the young guys will stick around but will Kobe come back. I think Kidd is done after this Olympics. It will be interesting to watch the team evolve over time.

Not to hijack the thread, but where is the public outcry that there are no white players on the team. I just finished reading a book about NASCAR and it had a chapter on trying to have diversity in NASCAR. Where are the Scoop Jackson's of the world who bang on baseball because there has been a decline of black athletes in baseball? Back to the thread, I am not a big fan of Carmelo because he played at Syracuse (Go Bonnies) but the whole team has looked good. I am glad they are playing the young talent (Howard, Williams, Paul) unlike previous Olympics where they defered to the veterans.

Olean These are all great suggestions. I was thinking of a 1 year probation period. Also, the burning of some of the Pats gear that he has. He did burn a picture of Willis McGahee this past weekend so he is on the path back to recovery. I have been roommates with him for 4 years now and 2 years in college so I have heard his Patriots garbage for awhile (I have lost many bets with him). He went to the Bills-Falcons game with me a few years back and did pull for the Bills. Our own poster, BuffaloBilliever, is his cousin so maybe he could shed some light on the issue. I think the change in heart can be sparked by his rooting for the Sabres and maybe he has seen the error in his ways for leaving the home town team.

Background History: My friend grew up in Western New York as a Bills fan. His whole family roots for the Bills. Around 1993, he switched to rooting for the Patriots. He says because of Drew Bledsoe. This guy once sat in awe at the same table with Jim Kelly and Andre Reed for a midget football banquet at the Castle Inn in Olean. Now at the age of 26 he wants back into the Bills family. I say no but I want to hear the opinion of fellow Bills fans. Should he be allowed back into Bills fandom or did he sell his soul to the devil?

Did anyone see the pregame? They were talking about Michael Ballack and his history of always playing on the second place team. This year alone, he finished 2nd in his league, 2nd in Champions League, and 2nd in the Carling Cup. Rece Davis compared him to Jim Kelly. Sonsabitches.

The Turkey-Swiss game is pretty good. Too bad the field is soaked. I remember from the Giants-Dolfags game that the rain puddled on the pitch. Either way, it is a good game. I am enjoying the game from Austria so it is a late game and the announcer yelling german things makes it exciting too. On a side note: The excitement after a team scores is amazing. I think soccer can be compared to hockey or a Bills game because the good guys score so rarely.

Maybe next time he will use his maid to buy the oxycodone for him but if he doesn't want to get in trouble he would have to start a radio show.
