How Do We Convince Roman To Stay?
smapdi replied to Dont Stop Billeiving's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is a problem I will love to have at the end of the season- if teams are beating down the door to interview him for HC, it means we probably finish top 10 and make the playoffs. If that is how it goes down, I really don't think he will want to leave. He took a lot of crap from 49'ers fans and critics about his performance in SF so I can see him sticking around here and being successful. He will be rated as one of the best OC's in the league if he is able to take a Tyrod Taylor led offense deep into the playoffs. The Bills also have an ace up their sleeve: Terry Pagula. He has proved that money is no issue when acquiring & retaining talent. I'm sure he will have no problem matching & adding 10% to whatever offer Roman might receive. -
Week 4: Giants' Game Preparation - Inactives Announced
smapdi replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That Giants board is pretty funny. They're expecting to beat us without too much of a fight for some reason. Apparently their lack of pass rush is a good thing because Tyrod is a mobile QB who runs all over even though that's just wrong. They also have the best WR corp in the league with the return of Cruz even though he hasn't played at all & is coming off major surgery. Tannehill had nearly 300 yards passing so they think this pass defense sucks and Eli is going to pick it apart- even though almost all his production came in garbage time. Seriously, go over there and read some of rhe craziness. It's a good laugh for a Monday -
What do you think Leodis would fetch on the trade market?
smapdi replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No way would I trade McKelvin. He really started to come on last season & was playing great as the CB2. The NFL is clearly a passing league & you can never have too many good CBs. When he returns, we will have one of the best set of CBs in the league. The NE game was a perfect example of why you don't trade him. Gilmore can take care of the top WR threat and then you have McKelvin & Darby to take care of Edelman and/or double team Gronk. I also don't think it would even be worth it to trade him. I would guess he would probably bring a 4th round pick in a trade & that simply isn't worth it. I'd consider a trade if they were offering a 1st or maybe a 2nd but I really dont see that happening -
I don't see how that is a bad thing? So instead of taking a sack or throwing it away for zero yards, he can use his legs to pick up positive yardage... what's the problem?? It's not like he is taking off running unnecessarily - he has 17 rushing attempts thru 3 games. He has completed 73%, 77%, and 74% in his 3 games. I'm pretty sure that's good for top 3 in the NFL. On top of that, he leads the league in air yards per attempt which shows he isn't just checking down.
-
How is Tyrod "not super accurate"?? He is at 74.4% completion percentage this season! That is fantastic and good for top 3 in the entire league. It's not like he is just checking down either: he's averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt & led the league in air yards per attempt. In his 3 games , he has yet to complete less then 70% of his throws. He has 7 TD / 3 INT, 116 QB rating & another 96 yards rushing + 1 TD.
-
The Incognito signing was huge. He really has solidified this line & been a major part of the run game's success. He was #2 rated linemen goimg into today and I dont see that going anywhere but up after his performance today. He has been blowing up holes for the RBs and making life much easier for Glenn and Wood. He had the key block on Williams 41 yard TD. The run defense had been top notch. Preston Brown is turning into an elite ILB & is the cherry on top of this front 7. Being able to stifle the run game makes things so much easier on a defense. You get plenty of 3rd and longs where the defense can pin it's ears back and go hard aftet QB.
-
I went Taylor. He's proven he can read defenses and make the neccessary throws. I was afraid he would rely too much on his legs but he stayed in the pocket tonight and made the throws. That ability will help him tremendously in making plays with his legs- keep defenses from cheating. Taylor also fits into what Roman wants to do on offense the best. He will be deadly on the read option. I'd rather see Taylor in there then Cassel just on upside alone. Worst case, Taylor flops & you can just throw Cassel in- he is what he is at this point in his career
-
My prediction: It's going to be Tyrod.
smapdi replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taylor definitely raised some eyebrows tonight with his play. He has a very unique skill set that Roman had a lot of success with Kaep in SF. His arm really impressed me; we already knew he was one of, if not the fastest QB in the league. I can't wait to see how he plays with the starters against a pretty CLE defense. The running game was firing on all cylinders so that should provide him with plenty of pass friendly situations. -
I absolutely love the Felton signing. FB's are a dying breed in the NFL due to all of the spread type offenses being used but he will be a tremendous asset for Roman's offense. Who didn't love watching Sam Gash destroy LB's paving the way for the RB?? A FB like that is like having a Brandon Spikes LB on offense- you have a guy that can punish the defense like they want to punish your offense. Felton will help bring some much needed intensity to this offense. McCoy is going to love having Felton out there looking to seek and destroy defenders. He paved the way for Peterson's 2000 yard season. With the way this offense will operate, I can see Shady putting up 1600 yards & 10+ TDs. This team has struggled mightily punching the ball in at the goalline & Felton should really help remedy that

Oh wow, some of the posts in this thread are ridiculous. Look, I absolutely love FJax & everything he has done for this team and the community. He's been a stand up guy, a team leader, & a great all around RB. But there is no way in hell FJax is currently a better RB then LeSean McCoy- that is just insanity. Jackson in his prime a few years back was not better then Shady McCoy. McCoy is an elite RB (top 3) right now. If you polled all 32 GMs, every single one would choose McCoy. Shady has the most rushing yards of any NFL RB over the past 5 seasons. He is also extremely durable coming off bacK to back 300+ carry seasons. The last 2 seasons in PHI, McCoy has: 626 carries / 2926 yards / 4.65 ypc / 14 rushing TD / 80 receptions / 694 rec yards / 2 TD / 26 plays of 20+ yards / 7 plays of 40+ yards That is elite production. Father time has definitely caught up to FJax. He only averaged 3.7 ypc last season. Over the past 2 seasons, he has 12 plays of 20+ yards & a single 40+ yard play. He was never a super explosive runner to begin with and he has slowed down. I am all for an open competition at every single position on this team; RB included. Let Shady,FJax, Boobie, Bryce Brown, & Karlos Williams battle it out. McCoy is obviously going to out perform everyone & win the starting job. I think the real battle to watch is FJax, Boobie, Bryce Brown, & Karlos Williams fight for the remaining 2 RB roster spots. I'm almost positive Bryce Brown is going to be cut/traded. I'm hoping FJax can out play one of Boobie or Karlos and stick around. But if Karlos Williams looks like a stud & Boobie plays well and keeps up his very good special teams play, I wont be outraged if FJAX is odd man out

RD 2, Pick 50: DB Ronald Darby, Florida State
smapdi replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually really like the Darby pick now that I've read up on the draft; the lack of a 1st round pick really tempered my excitement for this year's draft. Still, I consider Sammy Watkins as our 1st this year as well because I really believe he is going to become an elite WR1. Players like Watkins don't grow on trees & if yiu have the chance to get him, you do what you must. Looking at Darby's numbers at FSU & his combine, you could argue he has 1st round talent. 5'11" / 193lb is very good size for a CB. Combine that with his outstanding athleticism (4.38 @ combine / 4.2's during training, 41.5" vertical) & you have a prototypical modern day NFL CB. He was a pure gamer on FSU's championship defense winning freshmen of the year. The lack of INTs is no big deal because teams simply did not throw the ball at him. He had the best coverage metric of any CB in this draft. Ryan's defense calls for press corners that can play man on man which is what he excels at. He can match up with someone like Edleman all game long & take care of business by himself. Regarding the glut of CBs on this team: you can never, ever have too many quality CBs... especially in today's pass heavy game. A nickel defense has pretty much become a team's base defense due to the prevalence of 3 WR sets. So we can line up: Gilmore, McKelvin, Darby as out starting 3. Then we have Graham, Robey, & Brooks to fill out our dime defense . Injuries happen & McKelvin and Graham aren't getting any younger. Gilmore, McKelvin, and Darby give us 3 starting CBs that can matchup man on man leaving Ryan to get very creative with his blitzes -
McCoy is the leading rusher in the NFL over the last 5 seasons. He will be the centerpiece of Roman's run centric offense so I could see McCoy (with Felton blocking for him) adding 480 yards overall which would equal 40 yards per game over the course of a season. That increase would place them just outside the top 10
-
Last year, the Bills finished 26th in the league in total offense with 318 yards per game. If they can increase that output by 60 yards per game, that would vault this offense into the top 10 (9th). I think with the addition of McCoy, Felton, Incognito, & whomever they draft on the line, that should drastically increase their rushing output. I think those additions alone with Roman's offense shoukd be good for 40-50 yards a game. This team didn't have a single 100 yard rusher - don't think anyone even broke 80 yards. Then you gave the additions of Clay & Harvin. Those Two should be good for another 20 yards per game. Add in Watkins with a full offseason of NFL work & an OC that will actually use him and he will easily Crack 1000 yards. Woods will be in the all important 3rd year which a lot of WRs break out in. Even with Cassel or Manuel at QB, I think we can still have a top 15 passing attack. Watkins, Harvin, Shady, & Clay are beasts in the screen game/short passing game. The shear amount of talent this offense can throw out there in 3 WR sets means that they will always have a mismatch. Once teams start stacking the box to stop Shady, Watkins/Woods/Harvin/Clay will make them pay in the passing game

Charles Clay REPORT: Dolphins won't match offer sheet
smapdi replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great news now that we know he is ours. I really think this kid can be a pro-bowl caliber TE. Plays like this one are what have me some excited about this acquisition. So much versatility from one player. He runs with a lot of power and has no issue with lowering his shoulder to run over a safety or using his agility to juke/out run a LB. I cannot wait to see what Roman has planned for this offense: Sammy Watkins - Robert Woods - Percy Harvin - Charles Clay - LeSean McCoy Now that is one stacked offense on 3 WR sets. So many weapons. Sammy Watkins should be quite the happy fellow right now since he will have a lot more room to work with -
After FA What Positions Are Draft Critical?
smapdi replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm leaning towards BPA with their 2nd rounder. 50th overall is going to be their first pick in the draft so they might as well get the highest quality player they can find. There are always "sure fire" 1st round rated players that drop out of the 1st night & are available in the 2nd. Hopefully there will be a 1st round caliber player waiting for them there. In the 3rd, I'd go the BPA between offensive line, LB, & CB. I'm leaning towards an OG here since you can never have too many quality linemen. Should be abke to get a pretty good guard in the 3rd. The rest of the picks should probably go CB, S, and rush LB. Can never have too many good CBs or pass rushers -
Charles Clay REPORT: Dolphins won't match offer sheet
smapdi replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't think the Bills overpaid for him. I think some posters dont understand just how much the salary cap has gone up the past few years. The NFL is the zenith of pro sports in America so revenue is through the roof which means the cap increases. It went up 10 million this year and probably will do the same next year. That means over this year & next, teams have an extra 20 million in cap room that didn't exist a decade ago and a cap floor that is steadily rising as well. With the cap floor in place, every NFL team has to spend money so player salaries arw going up. Hell, Kyle Rudolph, who has never had a season as good as Clay's & who has struggled with injuries, got a 5 year / 36 million dollar deal last year. That is pretty much what we're paying Clay. Miami was going to pay him 7 million a year but since we're giving him 7.5, that's over paying?? The kid is 26 years old & is the absolute perfect fit for what Roman and Ryan want to do one offense. I have zero complaints about the deal. Pagula has plenty of money & the Bills have plenty of cap space next season to resign Gilmore ans Dareus before the projected 10 million increase in cap room. I swear some of you just want to complain no matter what this team does. This team finally has a legit GM/coach/owner with a blank check after years of cash to the crap and mediocre, 2nd tier FAs. Enjoy it guys -
Charles Clay REPORT: Dolphins won't match offer sheet
smapdi replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the signing a lot. Finally gives us a legitimate, starting caliber NFL TE. Clay isn't 6'6" but is very athletic & a much better blocker then Chandler. Clay graded out as the 11th best blocking TE on running plays last season. He gives this offense a ton of versatility & another redzone threat. I dont think the money is that crazy: if you want offensive pass catchers, in their prime, that is the price now a days.. it isn't 1999 anymore. Clay is 26 & only just entering his prime years. I think he can easily finish top 10 & push for top 5 TE numbers. Kyle Rudolph, who's best career season was worse then Clay's 2014, signed for 5 years / 36 million Last year. I'll take Clay over him any day. The cap just increased 10 million & prob will go up another 10 next year. That's just how it's going to be if you want to lock up a young TE with top 10 talent -
Bills to trade Kiko Alonso for LeSean McCoy
smapdi replied to CNY315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem with this strategy is the simple fact that the Bills want win right now. Pagula and Ryan have clearly stated that this team must make the playoffs this season... it's all that matters to this organization. Since this team is without a legitimate QB that can carry them to the playoffs, they will be relying on their elite defense to win them games. On offense, this means you better have a very good RB to be able to utilize Rex's ground and pound approach. Frank Gore is not good enough for that all important role. He is too old & past his prime. RB is going to be this offense's most important player so Whaley went out & got the best RB in the NFL over the past 5 years in McCoy. Yes, there are plenty of examples of finding serviceable RBs in the 2nd-4th rounds but that is not guaranteed. This organization simply doesn't have the time to wait around for a 3rd round RB "to find his groove" in the NFL- if that ever even happens. LeSean McCoy is a sure thing. He has proven he can handle a heavy workload with back to back 300+ carry seasons in which he started every single game & put up nearly 3000 yards & 14 TDs During those 3oo carry seasons -
Good GM moves vs. Better GM moves.

I also enjoy the fact they decided to gloss over stealing Cordy Glenn in the 2nd- one of the best young LTs in the league. Also drafted Kiko Alonso in the 2nd who he turned into an a 2 time All Pro RB in his prime who leads the league in rushing over the past 5 seasons. Found Kiko's replacement and one hell of a player in Nigel Bradham in the 4th round . Add in PReston Brown in the 3rd round & Kiko became very expendable. Traded Kelvin Sheppard straight up for Jerry Hughes who had turned into one of the leagues best pass rusher Starting RT Seantrell Henderson in the 7th round. Signed Brandon Spikes to turn one of the worst run d's into one of the best. -

smapdi replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand this "why just wait and sign Demarco Murray " argument. First off, it takes two to tango & who knows if Murray would even be willing to sign here. Second, there is no way they get Murray @ a 5.5 million dollar cap it this season- was never going to happen. Third, Murray has a long injury history & last season was really his only season he produced at a high level and stayed healthy. Fourth, opportunity cost. If they sit around waiting til the 10th, who knows if McCoy is even around to be acquired. McCoy is also the better all around RB then Murray, no doubt about that. 2 1st team All Pro and 3 pro bowls under his belt. McCoy is also used to playing in the cold & snow being a life long PA resident- Murray is a dome player -
I figured it was the initial shock of being dealt from the only NFL team you played for after nearly 7 years without any consultation from team officials. On top of that, he played college ball at Pitt & is a PA resident. Once the shock were off & his agent told him he would be working for one of the richest owners in the NFL who out of good faith gave him a new deal. His old one contained Barely a million guaranteed left while this new one pays him 16 million guaranteed. He has a brand new check for over 10 million dollars in his pocket now & a ton of new motivation to prove the Eagles made a terrible decision to move on. He is also goes from one of the worst "player coaches" in Chip Kelly whom he had major issues with to Rex Ryan who is universally loved by his players
-
My buddy is a huge phins fan & isn't too excited to see him getting signed for 7 million. Clay doesn't fit that traditional TE role & is more of a niche, split out side H back type guy. I'm just not a fan of giving an H back 7 million dollars unless Roman has big plans for him. I doubt Cameron will command that type of money & has the frame to be a starting TE. He has the numbers to back up his talent as a receiver & should be had for somewhere in the 3-5 million range I would think. His concussion history is worrying though. Or Gresham. He is your prototypical TE that is an excellent blocker. I really liked him coming out of Oklahoma & he is no slouch as a pass catcher either. He definitely will not command 7 million a season. Offer him 4 years / 15 million & then take the savings over Clay to sign Iupati, Franklin, or Boling. This is going to be run first team so getting one of those big 3 OGs is key IMO

Bills, McCoy agree on new 5-yr contract
smapdi replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great news that finally puts to the rest the rampant, unwarranted speculation that Shady did not want to be here & wasn't going to report. The Bills now have the NFL's leading rusher over the past 5 years locked up thru the prime of his career. On top of that, they manage to lessen his salary cap number to 5.6 million which is a steal for a player of McCoy's caliber. The kid is going to be the centerpiece of this offense & is going to drastically improve it. I have to get props to Whaley on this one. Getting one the best RBs in the league for a spare part, who is coming off a non contact ACL tear, to your already top 5 defense is a major coup. He also did not have to spend one of their very valuable draft picks. Whaley has proven he can find top notch talent in the 2nd & 3rd rounds so it was key they held onto that 2nd -
Spot on. The Bills are clearly in a WIN NOW, right NOW mode. They spent 27 million to bring in Rex Ryan & now have a new Billionaire owner/fan who is just as sick of them not making the playoffs as we are here. Ryan, Roman, & Whaley clearly realize they have no chance at bringing in a QB that can carry this team into the playoffs; just not going to happen with who is available (even if they still had their 1st round pick). So they will be going with the ground and pound offense which Ryan utilized successfully in NY to get himself into back to back AFC title games. The only way that style of play can work is with a legitimate NFL RB that can stay healthy, The Bills did not have a RB on their roster that fit that description before the trade. In fact, they did not have a single 100 yard rusher last season. LeSean McCoy is everything you want in a NFL RB. He can do everything and do everything well. He can score TD's (17+3; 20 Total TD in 2011). He can break off big runs. He averages 4.6 ypc over his entire career. He can catch the ball out of the backfield with 300 rec for nearly 2300 yards. He can break off 30 yard runs on plays a lesser back would be tackled for a loss. The best part about him (and what I think was most attractive to the Bills) is the fact he has proven he can be that bell cow, featured back who only gets stronger with more carries. He has had back to back 300+ carry season in which he's gone 2926 yards / 14 TDs / 80 rec / 694 yards / 2 TDs and started 32 games out of 32 games The Bills literally could have not gotten a better RB for their current situation then McCoy. He doesn't cost them a draft pick & was acquired via "house money" in Kiko Alonso (house money because he is coming off a torn ACL & the defense improved, drastically without him on the field)

Bills to trade Kiko Alonso for LeSean McCoy
smapdi replied to CNY315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, there are plenty of later round RB's who have had success in the league. Problem is, that this team wants to win NOW. Maybe they draft one of those guys in the 2nd or 3rd, maybe they don't. CJ Spiller is gone and so you're left with a 34 year old FJax (whom Father time has clearly began catching up to), Boobie Dixon (a short yardage RB at best), & Bryce Brown (Literally fumbled the job away & a key win). None of those guys broke 100 yards last season- I think the top rushing performance was like 77 yards. The Bills had the fewest rushing 1st downs by a wide margin- when you can't convert 3rd & 1, you have a major problem. They brought in McCoy because he is a proven, elite commodity at RB. He has proven he can be a bell cow, featured back AND stay healthy while doing it. He's had back to back 300 carry seasons in which he started 32 out of 32 games. That to me is probably the biggest selling point to Whaley and Ryan: McCoy can be that featured back AND stay healthy while doing it and doing it very well. Dude has 2 All-Pro nods and 3 Pro-Bowls under his belt. He will be 27 years old & in the absolute prime of his athletic career. He is a true all around RB with 300 rec / 2300 yards receiving on top of his 6800 yards rushing. There is no argument that LeSean McCoy is a marquee RB in the NFL. Top 3 without a doubt. In the Bills' and Ryan's eyes, they do not have the luxury of waiting around & hoping a 2nd or 3rd round RB puts it all together & becomes a starting caliber NFL RB. They went out and got one of the best RB's in the league without spending a valuable draft pick in the process. Yea, losing Alonso sucks but who knows how he recovers from his 2nd ACL tear. On top of that, this defense improved drastically without him in the lineup so I look at him as "house money"
