  1. I really love this pick. I'm shocked he was there for us in the 5th round. Hell, he won the award for the top offensive linemen in the entire nation! Beating out Greg Robinson and Jake Matthews. Many had him as a 2nd round guy but a poor senior bowl seems to be the only reason he slid. Great for us. He had a 89.5% blocking efficiency which is in the elite percentile. Baylor has had one of the top offenses in the nation during his time there. A 330 lb bulldozer is exactly what this line needs. Once he is in a NFL strength & conditioning program, I think they will have no problem keeping his weight down to a trim 325 lb, haha. Marrone should be able to coach him up as well. The more I read up on this kid, the more I think he is a legitimate contender to take Urbik's spot at RG. Just imagine him and Cyrus on the right side just mauling people with their nearly 700 lbs of muscle. CJ Spiller, FJax, and Brown must be kicking their chops with the solid additions to the line
  2. I love the move by Whaley to get Watkins. He was by far and away the most talented offensive player in the draft & truly an ELITE WR prospect . Before the draft, I was hesitant to move up because I felt for sure it would cost us our 2nd and there was no way I wanted to lose that pick. I knew therror woukd be a 1st round talent there, and there was. Whaley did a masterful job. I will gladly give up next year's 1st in exchange for the best WR prospect to come out since Green/Jones. You rarely are ever in position to get a player of Sammy Watkins caliber. Whaley realized that & made it happen. On top of that, he kept our 2nd and turned that into a starting 1st round talent RT. I would be willing to bet Cyrus K will be better then whomever they could've picked with their 2015 1st. The argument of we should've just stayed put and took Odell Beckam is bunk. Watkins is in the elite class of WRs that can do it all & has size. Beckam is just another small burner; we already have that in Goodwin. Watkins is a 6'1" / 212lb #1 WR that plays even bigger. We haven't had a true #1 with his size and skill set since Moulds. All the haters that aren't just trolls will quit their whining as soon as Watkins takes his first 5 yard screen pass 70 yards to the house. Book it
  3. Sort of like adding the top ILB versus the run the past 2 seasons in Brandon Spikes? Or maybe they should have drafted the top LB from the best defense in college football...
  4. Anyone claiming that Sammy shouldn't be compared to the likes of AJ Green or Mega, just take a look at this play he made in the biggest game of his career: He just out jumps the CB, in very tight coverage, and goes up and gets the ball. That is something you can't teach. He is a beast. The more film I watch on this kid, the more I love this pick. I give the draft an A+ just because of this pick. We haven't had a player in Buffalo like him since Andre Reed. I also wouldn't be surprised in 20 years when that comparison goes: "We haven't had a WR like that since Sammy Watkins"
  5. Whaley said he was the #1 guy left on their board. Said he can play all 3 LB spots so he provides much needed depth. I also think they brought him as insurance on Keith Rivers. Big, physical thumper at LB that the Bills have been missing. Adding Spikes and now Brown brings a lot more aggressiveness and physical play to our LB corp. No question the run defense needs to be improved so adding another thumper is fiNE by me
  6. What a shame. He had an unbelievable season last year and seemed poised to challenge Megatron as the top WR in league
  7. Cmon Kareem Martin
  8. Kareem Martin please. With RT taken care of, DE is now the biggest hole. He is your prototypical 43 end with great size 6'6" / 270 lb. He has amazing athleticism for his size. Poor man's Clowney. He is very good against the run which is key; we have plenty of pass rushers.
  9. No, they did not. Watkins was the #1 player on their board. He is the best offensive player in a very deep draft. I think being able to get your #1 rated player is well worth a future 1st and 4th. On top of that, they managed to hang on to #41 which was brillant. They will get a 1st round talent there. This draft is so deep, there is a chance the guy thru get at 41 will be better then whomever they could get with that 2015 1st. A pick today is much more valuable then one a year from now. Moving up to 1 overall would've cost our 1st and 2nd this year and at least a 2015 1st and 3rd. The Bills managed to get their top rated player for just a 1st and a 4th in a year.
  10. It was almost inevitable. There just wasn't room to keep everyone and he was the most obvious target. Spent a 7th on him and hopefully it turns into a 3rd. The Bills don't throw a lot to begin with. They obviously love Watkins and he is WR1 from day 1. Robert Woods showed a lot of promise last season and they like him; spent a 2nd on him. Mike Williams needs to see action because he has the talent to be a top flight WR2. He has 25 TD in a little over 3 seasons of action. They obviously like him. Goodwin showed some flashes his rookie year. He is the fastest player in the league and should be deadly out of the slot. All 4 of those guys were brought in by this regime as well. Stevie was not. I don't think they dislike Stevie but it came down to a numbers game. He has also struggled with his groin injuries, constantly. He makes the most money as well. I think they felt he was redundant and making too much for what his role in this offense will be. Wish him the best of luck
  11. CAR is under a lot of pressure to take the next step and they have a barren wasteland at WR. They drafted Benjamin in the 1st but he is raw and they still need another WR to scare anyone. Stevie Johnson could be perfect for them. He could take Benjamin under his wing and provide an immediate impact for them. CAR holds the 60th pick so I would see if they're willing to move it for Stevie. I know a lot of people don't want to move him but we have a very crowded WR corp. By moving him, we're still loaded at WR with Watkins, Woods, Williams, and Goodwin. We can then take an OT at 41 and then grab a TE at 60 so we add another playmaker who will see more reps at TE.
  12. I disagree. I have no problem giving up next year's 1st because it meant we get to keep our 2nd and 3rd picks this year, in a much deeper draft. I was against a trade up because I thought for certain it would cost us 41 and I did not want to give up that pick. We will get a very good player at 41; like 1st round talent in most other drafts. By getting CLE to accept future picks, we get to continue to add talented players to this roster who will make an immediate impact. I don't know about you but I am sick of missing the playoffs. The players they get in the 2nd and 3rd will be big time contributors to this year's team. This staff has shown they can find studs in the 2nd: Jairus Byrd Kiko Alonso Robert Woods Andy Levitre Aaron Williams Just think, we got the best player in this draft in Watkins in the 1st; a player that most teams never have a chance to acquire and we still get to add a player the caliber of the guys listed above to this roster. Zach Martin was the 4th rated OT; instead we got the #1 offensive prospect and can still add a OT nearly as talented in Martin on top of it at 41. Someone like Kouandjio, Cyrus, Richardson, Antonio, or Moses, Morgan. All 3 of those guys fit this team's philosophy of big, mauling offensive linemen. Love it. The draft is so deep, even our 3rd round pick could turn out to be an immediate impact guy
  13. My bad. I agree with that statement. It was a long 12 hours of work, lol. I can't keep up with all 28 pages of this thread but some poster was making it out like we had to give up 2 1st round picks on top of the 1st we used to draft him. Maybe it was poor wording.
  14. No but we got CLE's 1st. How is this so difficult to understand?? We got CLE's #4 and they got #9. So that's a wash. We are out a 2015 1st and 4th You also have to discount those future picks.. Net Present Value. A pick today is worth more then a pick next year. Pretty much lose a round. So instead of giving up our 2nd this year, they gave them their 1st next year (which is worth a 2nd round pick in this draft). I'd much rather have the #41 in this historically deep draft. We get to add another starter whom could be better then the player that would be available in 2015 at our 1st. We also get that player in the system and on the field improving the team immediately. Whaley is smart. I have a feeling that 1st in 2015 is going to be much lower then any recent pick because of the players we will get in the 2nd and 3rd round this year on top of the Superstar WR we just added.
  15. Agreed. Hackett needs to go tear down his playbook and start from scratch. The best coaches tailor their scheme's to their player's talents. With the acquisition of Watkins and Williams, we now have 5 legit WR's: Watkins Johnson Woods Williams Goodwin Hackett needs to go watch what Gailey did last season here and spread things out. Lots of 4 WR sets with Spiller in the backfield. Spiller was at his best when they operated out of the spread. Force defenses to role out 6 DB's constantly and watch Spiller/FJax slice and dice through all those DB's.
  16. Yea, I don't get the whining about this move. We didn't give up 2 1st's, lol. We traded our 9th for CLE's 4th. It's not rocket science. Giving up next years 1st is well worth it given how deep this draft is. Future draft picks are devalued a round to begin; it's called net present value. A pick today is worth much more then a pick in the future. We gave up a 1st round & 4th round pick in 2015. That's what is cost. Not 2 1st round picks What I really love is the fact they didn't have to give up a single pick in this draft, one of the deepest in years. When everything is said and done, the player we get at 41 will probably be a better prospect then whomever we could get in the 1st next year... that's how deep this draft is. Keeping both of our day 2 picks (2nd and 3rd) was an absolute crucial move for Whaley. We will get another starter at 41 and a very good prospect in the 3rd.
  17. That's a good point. RT and DE are the two biggest needs at this point. Looking over the DE's still available, we could get somebody very talented at 41. DEMARCUS LAWRENCE KONY EALY SCOTT CRICHTON KAREEM MARTIN I really like Lawerence and Martin. Kareem Martin is a poor man's Clowney when you look at his measurables. 6'6 / 272lb . Ran a 4.72 forty with 22 reps. I really want Martin actually and there's a chance he is there in the 3rd. If they go OT in the 2nd, I would be all over Martin in the 3rd.
  18. WOW! I'm blown away. I love this move/pick so much, I would marry it if it was legal. :w00t: In one of the deepest drafts in years, especially at the WR position, we come away with the TOP WR prospect and the BEST offensive prospect in the entire draft. On top of that, we do not have to give up a single pick in the deepest draft in years to accomplish this. The 41st overall pick will get us a 1st round caliber player who will start from day 1 and make an immediate impact. I was against trading up because I thought there was no way they could pull it off without losing that pick. I'm blown away Whaley was able to make that happen. You rarely get a chance to be in position to draft a player of Watkins caliber; he has superstar potential. Watkins is as close to a sure thing as you would be able to find. This kid is so good, he is the #1 WR on the depth chart off the bat. Dude is clutch. All he did to close his college career, in the biggest game of the year (BCS Orange Bowl) was be the MVP of the game to lead Clemson to the win.
  19. I think we gotta go OT in the 2nd with the acquisition of Watkins. I was leaning TE in the 2nd before the draft but now I feel like we should wait til the 3rd and cross our fingers that Troy Niklas is waiting for us there. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-position/dt-by-position-input:ol/dt-by-grade-input:3 Kouandjio, Cyrus Su'a-Filo, Xavier Bitonio, Joel Mewhort, Jack Moses, Morgan At least one of that group should be there at 9. We really checked out Cyrus K. and had him in for a visit so I think he is the front runner if they cleared him medically. He best fits that big, mauling mold of linemen. He is what we need at RT- big mauler who immediately upgrades the run blocking.
  20. I'd be happy with Evans as long as they don't burn their 2nd round pick in the process of getting him. Too much talent to give up 41. If they go WR at 9, they almost certainly need to grab a OT in the 2nd to take care of the hole at RT. I would have no problem trading Stevie and our 3rd to move up if we're grabbing a WR. Oakland could use a WR and he's from the bay area. It's a very crowded WR depth chart if they bring one in and keep Stevie: Mike Williams Stevie Johnson Robert Woods Marquise Goodwin Mike Evans TJ Graham I don't see this offense running a ton of 4 WR sets so Evans would need to be 3rd on depth chart
  21. That's a great point. Mayock has pretty much covered every single snap of Martin's career as ND's announcer. If there is any prospect he's familiar with, it's Martin. He has him rated as the 9th best player in the draft and that is where the Bills pick. I wouldn't be upset with the pick at all. I still feel RT and the oline as a hole Is the weakest link on this team. Getting a quality OT is paramount to EJ's and this entire offenses success. Depth is also a major need along the line and Martin can be plugged in anywhere. To the posters saying they dont like it unless they trade down: good luck with that. OTs are among the hottest commodities in the draft as evidenced by last last year's and this year's top 10 (at least 6 tackles selected). If you trade down, you're not goin to get Martin. An extra 3rd or 4th round pick is not worth losing out on your guy. Miami or NYG would be all over Martin & know they just have to trade up 1 pick in front of wherever we trade back
  22. No thanks . This team has much bigger fish to fry then taking Dix. There should be multiple positions with better players then Dix available. I'd rather have Calvin Pryor if they were going to go that route anyways. Watching tape on him almost makes me want to grab him against my rational mind. Pryor is a thumper who would add some more nastiness to this defense to go along with Spikes. Still, unless Mack or Clowney are there, they need to get help for the offense in the 1st round
  23. Not a fan even if they traded down. The only WR I want to burn a pick on is someone that brings something completely different to the table, like Watkins or Evans. Both those guys would bring something special and different then what we have. As far as I'm concerned, any WR brought in other then those two is automatically the 4th WR, at best. We can make a much bigger impact on this roster at a different position. I'd rather get Donald or Gilbert then ODB at this point. My heart is still set on Matthews and I'm really hoping there is a run on QBs and he somehow drops
  24. Haha I also own a Hardy throwback jersey. We must be the only 2 left. What a waste
  25. He definitely sounds lIke a beast of defensive linemen. Those are sone impressive numbers he put up at the combine. If Schwartz thinks he can make him a regular in this defense with their current talent, he is an intriguing option. I'm just having a hard time justifying him over Matthews if he's available. The offense is just too far behind right now to pass over a blue chip OT prospect like Matthews. RT is by far and away the most glaring hole. Then again, if Matthews & Evans are gone maybe you take Donald then make damn sure you get Juwan James or Cyrus K in the 2nd.
