  1. Couldnt have been any quirkier than Allen's, who didnt even learn to throw properly until 2019-2020 according to his recent interview with Chris Simms. But I'm sure that's what most GMs/Executives would tell you too. Look, I dont think it was blatent racism, but it was latent racism. Which is almost worse since it's tougher to fight. "He doesnt fit the prototype". Nevermind that the prototype was set 40 years ago when it was nearly impossible for black guys to play QB. That link is interesting, because the first 11 players listed on it were drafted in only the last few years. AFTER Lamar proved the world wrong. But you dont have to go much farther past 2018 to see the issues. Heck, in 2017, that draft had both Mahomes AND DeShaun Watson fresh off a National Championship. But who was the first QB drafted that year? Mitch Frickin Trubisky who had achieved nothing at UNC. Those other 2 guys slid out of the top 10. Look at 2011. Cam Newton, fresh off a Heisman and National Championship. But the scouts/executives/etc just couldnt fathom him being the best QB available so everyone pushed "golden boy" Blaine Gabbert to the top of the prospects list. All those kids recently drafted early in that article owe Lamar a big thanks. Yeah, it was less the pre-draft stuff, and I think more so how the actual draft went. The pre-draft stuff planted the seeds, and then the slide to #32 just sealed the deal. And these guys arent necessarily WRONG for seeing it that way, or for sticking up for Lamar. But they are wrong in trying to defend Lamar by tearing down Josh. They should go after the NFL GMs. Especially in Arizona, Denver, Miami, etc. who all passed on Lamar.
  2. Ryan Clark, former NFL player, current TV NFL personality (on multiple stations, podcasts, etc). Marcellus Wiley, former Buffalo Bill, former(?) TV personality, now podcaster. Ryan Clark is one of many African-American former players/TV personalities who witnessed the old-school, systemic racism against Lamar Jackson coming into the league. Lamar was a Heisman winner at a fairly major program and had years of tape of him throwing the ball. Yet, the "old school" NFL guys and GMs never gave him his proper respect as a prospect. Really hit a peak when Bill Polian went on national TV and said Lamar should switch to WR. Just an absolute horrible take and insult to Lamar. Then draft day 2018 happened, and they watched Lamar slide all the way to #32, while other possible lesser prospects went before him. The most glaring being the super raw, major longshot project from a D2 school in Wyoming, Josh Allen. For many of these guys (Stephen A Smith, Damien Woody, Bart Scott, Ryan Clark, etc) it was more of the same ol same ol. Disrespect of the young black man, while over-respecting the white kid. And in many ways they werent wrong. And proven further correct by Lamar's success at QB in the NFL. The issue is, a lot of these guys somehow blame Josh himself for his and Lamar's draft position. So they are ALWAYS trying to prove Lamar is better than Josh in order to right the wrongs of the 2018 draft. And they usually do that by tearing down Josh for no reason. Marcellus called Clark out on those types of takes. And now we have the drama of today.
  3. DC of a hot NFC team, first time head coach... pretty similar. Jets fans are banging their heads against the wall.
  4. I dont think Saleh would demand it, per se. But he (or someone else) may have questioned the stability of the organization and the constant turmoil of having your HC and GM hires offset. It's why Ross is giving Grier one more year in Miami, so he can fire Grier and McDaniel at the same time next year.
  5. Hopefully this type of chaos keeps Joe Brady away
  6. The league is doing well to incentivize giving these guys opportunities, while not incentivizing hiring lesser qualified coaches. Rewarding the team that helped get their foot in the door and developed them. Not rewarding teams just for checking a box. Good way to do it, and fair to everyone.
  7. Very slight, almost no delay, to the stadium scoreboards. Pretty much real time.
  8. Not sure the Jets get one for hiring. But the Lions will definitely get one for having their guy hired.
  9. Rodgers probably stopped reading when he saw "Aaron" and just assumed they named Rodgers HC as well.
  10. Whatever path we needed to get Jerry Hughes on the team
  11. Josh was just happy it wasnt another Al Qaeda reference.
  12. But we had a GM at the time McD was hired. If both spots are open at the same time, usually the GM position would be filled first. Unless they are looking for a "CEO" type coach (Parcells, Belichick, etc). But not sure Glenn is that.
  13. ha, my first thought on that "article" as well. There are a few lines we could quote from there that make zero sense. Keon Coleman drawing a flag for blocking a guy all the way into his bench? I'm fine with it.
  14. Just watched the whole episode. Lots of good stuff. My favorite brief moment was when they showed the Ravens walking to the bus after the loss and Justin Tucker is carrying a box of La Nova with him. He knows whats up!
  15. Ehh, I'm fine with it. Someone needs to set that tone and bring the juice. Love seeing our guys be more fired up and physical than the Ravens. That is saying something (good job, McD). We'll need it for the next 2 games. Especially against Philly.
  16. Yeah, it was almost like he tried injuring himself more than Hollins was. You can see Mack pop up after the play and put his hands up like "I wasnt trying to do THAT, and this dude needs medical attention now" Not surprised Humphrey isnt the sharpest tool in the shed.
  17. So Mack's block on Humphrey wasnt really about the Josh hit. A few plays prior to the block, Hollins caught a pass in the middle of the field and headed toward the sidelines. He took a "big" hit from Humphrey as he went out of bounds. One of those hits that happen in the snow/frozen field with bad footing. Probably a little late too. He popped right up, ready to fight, and luckily McD and others were there to pull him away. Then Mack got his revenge a few plays later
  18. Not to defend them at all, but I can add that it's no different this time of year on sports radio anywhere. Even in Atlanta with far more pro teams to discuss, and college football and basketball being huge here. The afternoon show on 92.9 down here spent over an hour debating which one of the 3 hosts is the "most cultured". But first they had to spend an hour debating what "being cultured" actually meant. It's a slow sports time of year, and only gets worse in a couple weeks post-Super Bowl.
  19. I tune into the post game to hear the player/coach interviews. Once they start taking calls, right after a game, it's time to turn it off and do something else. The morning show on my commute to work is still good.
  20. No, he got injured in the garbage game against the Pats. A small sacrifice for keeping our starting CBs healthy.
  21. We all know what happens when you let your Woody make decisions. Nothing good. Jets need to move on to post nut clarity before they'll ever be good. Funny enough, the best thing to ever happen to the Jets was Trump assigning Woody to the UK. It allowed Chris Johnson to take over, and he just let the football guys do their thing.
  22. Glenn to the Jets would be another great move for the Bills by a division rival. Nothing against the man, but I dont think its much of a groundbreaking hire. It will be same ol same ol in New Jersey. And will be that way as long as you have a Woody making decisions. I still worry about Brady to New Orleans. Seems like a well connected no-brainer. Hoping the Saints dont want to wait 3 weeks to make a hire. McCarthy would be a good land for them.
  23. I'd be giving the signature McD claps too. Clappin for that mfer like 2 cheeks at Magic City during the NBA All Star Weekend! "Look at my little Champion! *clap clap clap* Oh, he's got 12 men on the field to defend a FG! *clap clap clap* Silly McD, give him another $5M!"
  24. I dont think McCarthy is great, but he was given another 9 years after his SB win. So yeah, I think he got the looooong leash from his SB win I mentioned earlier. Green Bay also had to deal with Rodgers and thats a big reason why they moved on from Mike. Once McD wins one I'm fine if Terry wants to hand him a lifetime contract and a blank check.
