  1. here is such a perfect example of what im talking about: Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd told the team website “it’s hard not to get giddy.” george wilson does a bit better job but still not explicit and mature enough: “There’s a lot of hype around our team right now,” fellow safety George Wilson said. “All we want to do is live up to our own expectations of ourselves and really start to build that team chemistry.” these guys need to be consistently communicating humility and respect for how difficult it is to win in the nfl. of course they need to be confident and its ok to express that, but in their next breath they need to overshadow that confidence with a humble professionalism that keeps them on the edge and intensely focused on remembering at all times what a difficult challenge it is to win consistently it shouldnt be hard not to get giddy at all. byrd might have been referring to the fans, but i assure you if he had said what needs to be said about focus and the players turning a deaf ear to the ball riding, that would have been reported as well every single time the issue of media expectations comes up there should be a response regarding tuning it out. every time. if that was my team i would be saying it in the meetings, and reminding guys every time they do an interview and dont mention it that they fkd up. it has to be hammered into the players minds at every opportunity if they hope to avoid what is essentially a mistake of immaturity keep you eyes peeled for it during camp. im going to guess by then that chan will have that exact talk with them and we will see it corrected, but if not watch for the mushroom cloud forming over my house in lasalle around day two
  2. there is just no way i would ever pay three bills for a jersey. no freakin way
  3. not nearly enough. and not in the right way first off, its literally only been said a few times, and sort of in passing as they continue to focus on their confidence. it should be the other way around - express confidence but emphasize humility and keeping their heads down and focused on every detail they need to win games if you want to see the difference just remember how troy vincent used to address every similar issue whenever he was interviewed - ultra respectful of their opponents, continually repeating how difficult it was to win in this league and how intense the focus must be at all times. not just 'oh we look good on paper but i still think we are good' kind of mild denial. if you cant remember vincent, then listen to bill belicheater, if you can stand it almost isnt good enough, it should be a talking point every day in the meetings and mentioned virtually every time they are interviewed ive been watching football now for forty years plus and im telling you, unless they start showing a serious commitment to keeping their feet on the ground they will succumb to the preseason ball riding. all it takes it a little loss of desperation and focus, and losing games because of it is realistically possible. if they dont prep for it now they also run the risk of having things unravel before they can pull it together, its much better to never let the unraveling start in the first place they still have plenty of time to get the focus there, but im keeping my eyes peeled for it once training camp starts
  4. when chan talks about wr blocking ability hes not talking primarily about run blocking, hes talking about downfield pass blocking. the bills system is heavily invested in blocking by the wrs to support rac yardage. they throw short and middle range passes that are architected to get a high amount of rac yardage. to do that you need wrs who are willing and able to stick their nose into lbs chests, which is why they like jones and why they shipped out evans
  5. jaws drunk dialed schopp and the bulldog last week from the golf course and told them that lee could make a huge difference and turn fitz into an elite guy. then he said i love you man and hung up
  6. who you callin boy oh wait hes white never mind
  7. being a redneck he was of course there with his sister am i right
  8. fitz doesnt seem like a wall street kinda guy. i used to work in that area and in dc with people like that and they too often are so self absorbed and pretentious its a real turn off. not all of course but so many that its tough to deal with tbh, i think fitz was just saying that because it sounds like the thing a harvard man is supposed to do. and thats maybe what he wanted when he left harvard, but by the time he retires he will likely have outgrown that crap anyway i wouldnt be surprised at all if he became a coach, much less surprised than if he actually went to wall street or some other kind of environment like that
  9. sure why not just seems the better player you are the less likely you end up a coach so for this seasons sake i hope he never coaches
  10. woooooooooooo!! freebird!!!
  11. if hes going to do it he really should be able to do it this season, which is his third. that mental reps thing is no bull, it really works that way. if he has the capability in his body/psyche he should be able to start showing his mind is trained and ready
  12. like i said, nothing wrong with confidence, but it has to be seriously tempered with a healthy respect for opponents and the authentic realization that actual results are the only accomplishment you should ever allow the focus to be on just ask the sabres how valuable preseason accolades are
  13. seems like it would be a pretty serious impediment to quickly finding loose balls on the ground but youd have to look through it to tell
  14. i wouldnt call easley a rookie at all. mental reps are a huge benefit to any player, in fact studies show mental reps are literally almost as good as actual physical practice. all that time around nfl camps, meetings, and film sessions are invaluable to his development despite not playing a single down nevertheless, he has not played a single down. and weve seen time and time again how camp/preseason work simply does not translate with any reliability into on field performance. he would need a simply monster pre-season while jones stumbles to have any chance at starting the opener. and even then its unlikely. id give hagen and his experience a much better chance at wresting the starting designation from jones in time for the opener than easley so realistically easley is at this time just another scrub with a long hill to climb to establish himself in any manner until the games start for real. fortunately for him, the bills run so many multi-wr sets that he will get his regular season chances and its that performance that will determine if he can move his way up (or down)
  15. im so completely sick of dufuses (dufi?) rolling out vys winning pcent as if that means ѕhit. he won games mainly with his feet and backed by a strong defense. his thowing stats tell the story: he is a sub-mediocre passer who makes too many bad mistakes. the eye test also tells a story, that he is easily fooled by nfl defenses so if you need him to use his arm to win you games he will most usually fail. and by now if you dont know that running qbs will eventually injure themselves out of a job, hence the eventual requirement of any starter being a good passer, then it really doesnt even make sense to bother to debate the topic vy is here simply for chan to evaluate whether he can do what nobody else could - hone youngs incredible physical tools into being a good passer. chan knows what he has in thigpen, a very pedestrian qb who doesnt make many mistakes and can manage a game well enough to give you a shot to win. the only way vy wins the job is if he shows enough progress that chan feels he has the ability to follow instructions and continue to progress so that they can have confidence he will respond when he is needed honestly id say the chances are around thirty pcent that vy wins the job. i sure wish we had somebody better than thigpen behind fitz, but the reality is thats likely to be the case at least another season
  16. i hope young finally manages to put everything together and win the job, but frankly i dont think he has it in him. if he does manage to beat out thigpen it wont be because he outperforms him, it will be because chan see something he thinks he can work with should the time come when they have to start him. thigpen looked awful last preseason, but the fact remains that he was a sub-decent starter for kc and he knows the offense intimately. thats a ton for vy to overcome and i dont think he will. but he still might win the job based on his physical tools and perceived upside. if i had to bet, though, i would still put my money on thigpen
  17. ok no more lights out dances, no more flying tackles in preseason, i dont even want him drinking gatorade with his elbow held too high. wheel him on and off the field so the only time hes full bore is when the ball is in play then let er rip with boobs
  18. meh i deal with that all the time on tons of topics they dont call me 'welcome to pwngville' for nuthin. and by they i mean me
  19. surprised they havent done it already by now i will probably get a sunday subscription if i stay in this area
  20. exactly pro team psyche can be very fragile and at the highest levels its one of the key elements that determines wins or losses. even a mediocre team can get hot, get confident, and ride that all the way to a title, just like the giants and the kings just have. conversely, a loaded team can lose their edge and clutch their sticks/bats/turf so hard they cant get out of their own way and bumble themselves onto the golf course for the playoffs i sure hope the leaders on this team start shouting from the rooftops that they have to tune out the accolades, remember everybody is good in the nfl, keep their heads down, and let their wins be their only crowing
  21. Jim Rome is boring. He can't even live up to Have a take don't suck.
