  4. Obama's gun control plans weaken in Senate An assault weapons ban sought by President Barack Obama ran into serious trouble on Tuesday when Majority Leader Harry Reid acknowledged there was not enough support for it in the Senate. It was the latest blow to the White House's gun control plans which are fading as Republicans and even some Democrats baulk at taking on the powerful gun lobby. Less than half of the Senate backs the assault weapons ban, Reid said, which would condemn it to failure when gun control legislation comes to the floor of the chamber next month. Prohibition on the sale of assault weapons was always the most controversial element of Obama's attempt to stem gun violence since December's massacre at a Connecticut school where 26 people died. Backed by a lobbying campaign from the National Rifle Association, many lawmakers argue that bringing back a ban that ran out in 2004 infringes Americans' constitutional right to bear arms. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/20/us-usa-guns-senate-idUSBRE92I11G20130320 im trying to get better at pretending im a republican

  6. oh lord. living in this time where just about everything is interpreted as racist devalues the disgusting real racism like you just mentioned i grew up deep in the heart of redneck crackerland and racism was real bad - almost constant and very overt. now its a ton better, but when i go back to my hometown (wilson) i still see quite a bit of racism. at least most of the die hards are sheepish about it, but not all i have a cousin who is still a proud racist. its weird too, bc hes generally a very nice guy, willing to help you out, wont take money when he spends several hours fixing your car, stuff like that. but then in the middle of a party he will proudly proclaim something like 'i dont drink gin cuz thats a ni99er drink.' most everybody around him will say oh shut up you ignorant fool (which in and of itself is different than it used to be where most everybody would agree and those who didnt would say nuthin, except me). but he will just stand there beaming, 'yep if ni99ers like it then i hate it'. hard to figure out how someone that cool otherwise can be such a total dick and be proud of it

  13. the five is the best show on fox, maybe the best show on all cable news morning joe is great but i wish theyd have more regular conservative guests. joe does a pretty good job being the consistent conservative voice but they need another. everybody else on that show are liberals, at least that i can think of right now
  14. i dont think thats what happened the bills have made it very clear they are drafting a qb in the first two rounds and intend to do everything they can to let him play. they already had their veteran backup in tjax on a cheap contract and thus could afford to lowball fitz bc they really didnt need him anymore tennessee otoh has watched locker struggle for two seasons without getting much better and thus are less committed to just letting him play. hasselbeck is rapidly losing his skills and really is only good as an emergency backup/mentor, which is why hes perfect in luckland. fitz is a definite upgrade comparatively and being in his prime years at least has the potential to turn the corner and become their starter for the next couple of seasons - which i think he will. thus they would want to pay him considerably more than the bills would i would have done exactly the same thing as fitz did. good luck to him
  15. shouldnt she have got two dwis
  16. does anybody really believe locker can beat out fitz for that job? nice move by fitz. still wish he had restructured and stayed here
  17. id rather have elizabeth hasslebeck
  18. i really dont think those that have a lot and think they should be able to keep even more have any guilt about it. they have essentially substituted money for their god image so it takes on a sort of religious value to them think about it: money becomes how they value themselves, how they set their parameters, how they make judgments, how they make sense of and measure the world. thats usually a function of a spiritual center, but of course when its money it cant help but be completely dysfunctional. youve seen the studies about how the rich tend to be far less empathetic, thats bc they have trained their minds to shut out the unfairness of the disparity by truly believing that they are special - the same thing that usually plagues most religious zealotry thats why you see so many of these poor idiots supporting more money flowing to the rich even if it hurts them in the process, bc they see themselves in the same manner despite not actually having the object of their worship. they side with the rich because those people do have what they view as their savior. its pretty sick and once its got a hold of you its very difficult to shake from from. thats what jesus meant by that whole 'camel thru the eye of the needle' allegory - hes not saying that the rich are barred from salvation per se, hes saying that the poisoning of the mind that the worship of money brings is the real barrier
  19. i wasnt going to respond this trash but it really needs to be said this is exactly whats wrong with that party right now. here we have a very committed, involved, and intelligent voter (me) who actively supports whats good for the republican party and the country. this person has voted for more republicans than democrats for president, including the last two elections and yet thats not good enough further, he gets ridiculed, as if the facts of his voting and debating pattern arent authentic this is exactly why that party is floundering, bc people like these are the voices being heard most often. the palins and the malkins and the santorums get the air time. numbnuts like these two posters continue on and on with their 'independant lol' shtick. but the real debate never happens. the negotiation of ideas we desperately need never comes about because the buffoons of the movement are promoting some kind of ridiculous purity standards based on the most simplistic of alleged 'ideas' if i was really a partisan i wouldnt want the republicans to evolve. i would be absolutely delighted if they just stayed exactly on their current course. it would be like trying to dig out of their massive hole with a tonka backloader thats obviously not me but as long as people like you and your insulting to the intelligence 'leaders' keep plying this ultra right extreme purity test, thats exactly whats going to happen. and thats really bad for this country btw - it wasnt mccain and romney, it was paul and huntsman. mccain had my vote until he selected the big haired bozo and then started pandering the straight talk express right into liartown. i did hold my nose and seriously consider romney, but it didnt take long for that stench to overwhelm me to the point there was not a chance. he was so bad that even the generally dumb electorate could see how horrible the country would have been under him. not that it was that hard, but at least we got that right
