Pew Research Finds That MSNBC Really Stinks
Meathead replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
i would agree with that assessment but its just a snapshot at this moment. if youve watched all the cable networks over time, there has been an obvious and dramatic shift as the stations have adapted in this relatively new world of news-o-tainment if this analysis was performed five to ten-ish years ago, fox would surely be at least as high on the partisan scale as msnbc is now. they pioneered the genre, after all, and took it to its logical extreme as viewers not normally interested in politics ate up the simplistic hyper-spin fox was serving up. and we all know the old internet maxim that if you want to be popular be a jerk msnbc scrambled to try to catch up, and did a relatively poor job of for a long time. they didnt seem to really want to embrace the 'be a jerk' approach until recently - when their ratings started to turn around big time olberman started out well due to a relatively good combination of quality content and high decibel theatrics, but racheted up the shouting until he really went over the line and ended up glenn beck-ing himself, even before that was a thing. chris matthews has moved even further left than he used to be, but hes too cerebral to really appeal to the less intelligent red meat crowd that drives ratings. Maddow is pretty good, though i do catch her lying too often for my tastes, but shes probably still a little too high-brow to hold the cranially challenged masses attention. its really taken the off the hook partisans like Schultz and ODonnell to drive viewership. and they are awful, btw, just like their contemporaries O'Reilly and Hannity, but that crap sure does sell like hotcakes meanwhile cnn hasnt really committed to that kind of hyper partisan journalism. id say they lean left but they obviously have tried to remain the most balanced and professional of the three. thats where i watch almost all of my cable news now bc i can only stand so much of the serial lying that goes on with the popular blowhard shows ive mentioned the net result is that right now fox has taken a couple of steps back, mainly because they have to. their most popular shows (oreilly and hannity) have experienced huge ratings dips. their golden bimbo has completely lost her prime time appeal and despite being canned cant even see russia from her house anymore. they still lead in overall ratings but msnbc has made huge strides, much to my chagrin. cnn will always trail those two as long as it tries to maintain some semblance of journalistic integrity, much to the average persons dismay can msnbc ever out-lie fox? idk and i wouldnt bet on it. as long as republicans keep playing 'how absurd can we continue to be', fox is going to have a tough time competing with that reality. after all, how can you be the shrill voice in the living room when your elected representatives are already playing that role? -
G.O.P. Report Is Blunt in Its Call for New Direction
Meathead replied to Meathead's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
its been brewing for a while but the humiliating virtual landslide loss to a very weak incumbant has really forced the issue. and youre correct - on one side you finally have the moderate intelligent conservatives emerging to try to wrest control from the other side, the extreme no-nothing cartoon buffoons that dont know how to do anything but market themselves to the jerry springer electorate segment i mean, hell, when you have a sychophant like sir karl ridiculing you, you really should take the clue youve hit rock bottom in one of these cycles very soon they will have to. the republicans are staring at another eleven years of democrat presidents, and just lost seats in both houses despite a predominantly failed democrat presidency. thats really a stunning rebuke of how the country views these republicans when you stop and think about it. if they dont accept reality soon they are looking at total democrat control as soon as the very next mid-terms. and if they continue on with the rediculous tack they currently are stubbornly sticking to, that democrat dominance may last a while there certainly hasnt been a party more dysfunctional during my lifetime. thats rather incredible and shows how far they have to go to get back to any form of respectability. i too hope they figure it out, we need some semblance of quality balance in our govt -
how about this, if the bills dont add at least three more significant free agents (starters or primary backups) before camp ends i will eat fitz's leftover jock strap i realize this will now make you root for them to NOT sign anymore free agents, but since that aint gonna happen we can all freak out a little less right now

This Just In - Top 10% Paid 70% of 2010 Federal Taxes
Meathead replied to IDBillzFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
hear hear i used to be a big earner and i didnt mind paying a larger pcent in taxes. i knew that my success wasnt mine alone, that a lot of other people were in the path that helped me get to where i was. sure, i tried to save money on taxes by buying rental properties and managing my portfolio properly, but i still paid far more as a percentage than most people i also happen to respect the spiritual principle that you treat everyone like your brother. i happened to be doing very well at the time, but it wasnt bc i was so much more awesome than ppl who werent. i earned my money for sure, but didnt mind that a good chunk of it went to help those not as financially successful as i was now that im disabled and poor im on the other end of that paradigm. and im really glad i saw that light before and that it didnt take my current situation to force that realization on me -

WASHINGTON — In a sweeping self-critique of the party’s 2012 election efforts, Republican leaders on Monday unveiled a set of proposals aimed at convincing younger voters, ethnic minorities and women that they have a home in the party, even if they do not agree with all of its positions. “The report minces no words in telling us that we have to be more inclusive,” Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said on Monday. “I agree. And as President Reagan said, our 80 percent friend is not our 20 percent enemy.” The national party’s report, called the Growth and Opportunity Project, is the latest contribution to a conversation among conservatives after disappointing losses in the 2012 presidential and Senate elections. Just days earlier, at the Conservative Political Action Conference, activists debated whether the Republican Party should moderate on issues like immigration or stand firm. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/19/us/politics/republicans-plan-overhaul-for-2016-primary-season.html?_r=0 stop paying any attention to attractive functional retards like palin, malkin, and santorum is step one

Sabres starting to come apart at the seams?

i like pominville as a player but it was a huge mistake making him captain. these teams have lacked just about everything you want since he was given the C. he certainly has done nothing to keep the team from going into their pathetic tailspin. stafford as an A i even worse. vanek as an A isnt bad but he should never be captain imo. idk who else they could possibly give it to but they really need to strip the first two and just let them be role players -

Blast from the past: Dick Jauron
Meathead replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ppl always say well he got twelve or w/e wins with cassel. yeah and they always forget that was exactly the season that all those vets took LESS money to play there try to get an easy ring. even dick jauron could have dickballed his way to twelve wins if a bunch of vets in their prime took two-thirds of their market value to play on the same team at the same time in a hundred and ten-ish games genius bill couldnt get his teams to win more than they lost. theres only one place and one time that hes been able to win consistently, when he had arguably the best qb ever right at the time that the qb was the most over-emphasized position in all of sports. idk why in the hell that makes him a genius -

if thats so why couldnt the great belicheat turn any of his other bum qbs into starters that got his teams to win more than they lost i just hope to god that he keeps coaching there once marcia retires. but he wont. i sure as hell wouldnt if i were him, id just retire a genius instead of the guarantee of going back to being a sub-average douche -

The Bills' current starting QB - the numbers
Meathead replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yeah, the 'someones' they will bring in to compete will be at least one rookie. tjax isnt seeing the field unless a) the rookie(s) suck so bad in preseason they have no choice, or 3) they get injured face it, tjax is the only other veteran qb they will likely have in camp. they already could have had fitz at a restructure but wanted to pay him peanuts to do it, which means they see tjax as THE veteran presence. the only way they bring somebody else in is if they can get someone with a higher ceiling like kolb without giving up anything more than a mid-level contract and a very low draft pick with the move to lowball fitz they are sending a clear signal they are going all in on at least one rookie qb. they either take smith/barkley at eight, or they wait until the second round and take their highest rated qb. whomever it is they are going to give every chance to start and come hell or high water is probably going to do just that -

one thing is established, that at least four out of five times high priced free agents never play up to their contract. fans want the big splash but that usually hurts the team on the field. waiting for your value targets to hit is the smart thing to do, especially for a team in transition like the bills. i still guarantee there will be significant free agent additions to this team, just not in time to ease the early heart palpitations of impatient overreacting fans
