Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
Meathead replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
lol sick but funny personally i dont want tjax to be the only veteran qb on this team. kolb is pretty much the best option they could have added bc he didnt cost picks and he still has the possibility of putting it together and playing like he did in spot duty in philly, which was good i would bet my house he makes less than three mil if he doesnt start. nice non-work if you can get it, but nothing close to the 6.5 mil he gets if he wins the job, keeps the job, and stays healthy all things considered this was a very good move by the bills, assuming they ever actually get him signed -
i really dont see how collusion would work that easy in the nfl. youd have to have the overwhelming majority on board or else other gms would just snatch up all the players they could with slightly better offers than those the colluders colluded to collude. and if you had that many gms participating it would pose serious risk of their exposure and subsequent sanctions. so frankly i seriously doubt thats happening i wonder how much of an impact these huge qb deals are having? the nfl has made the game so single focused on that one position that teams have to do whatever they can to try to get and then keep a top third qb. it almost doesnt matter anymore how bad the rest of your team is, if you have a top qb then youre a contender. so yeah, throw every dollar you can at those guys and then fill the rest of your roster with whatever junk you can patch together

The Kolb Poll and Ledger
Meathead replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
kolb and tj might be a better depth chart than fitz and thiggy but thats not bc kolb is much of an upgrade over fitz. its bc pigpen should never start for an nfl team ever and at least tj is a bottom tier starter i just dont see kolb as an immediate upgrade over fitz. kolb is statistically inferior in almost every way to fitz. the only edge you can give kolb is he isnt horrible on long ball accuracy, hasnt thrown as many picks, and he still technically has upside that might not have shown yet. fitz is probably not going to change his spots at this point, but at least hes a legit bottom third starter that generates offense and touchdowns. kolb is probably in that same class right now, so to make him some kind of automatic upgrade seems silly to me you could make the case the bills should have just kept fitz, but for multiple reasons i can see why a change was better. they will likely end up spending the same money overall to have kolb instead, so why not go for the guy that might still emerge as a somewhat late bloomer into studhood. unlikely but still more likely than fitz suddenly becoming that top half plus qb you need to contend -

skelton really is terrible. i was only joking to poke fun at those who think every other qb theyve ever heard of is an upgrade kolb is in the fitzpatrick class - capable of being a bottom third starter in this league but not reliable enough to lead a contender. kolb still has a slightly open window of potential upside that fitz probably doesnt have, but kolb probably gets this upcoming season to take his last shot at starting and if he cant cut it this time he goes on the same career backup/emergency qb that fitz appears to have arrived at so just bc he didnt cost them any picks i hope this deal does go thru eventually. they qb mix would be better with him in it than not in it -

Bills sign UFA DT Alan Branch to 1 year deal
Meathead replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
thats reasonable but that makes free agency in even worse shape than i thought. looks like a player that finally put it together and was a solid starter for two seasons. id think that still had value enough to push at least multiple season deals but i guess maybe not. that would put this in worst ever free agency territory imo -

i thought you experts knew everything. nine pages and still nobody has a clue for the rationale of a one year deal. of course neither do i so im right there with you, and for that im ashamed six year vet, last two seasons started 31 of 32 games on a good defense. didnt play much at all his first four seasons - did i hear he had motivation problems or something? that would explain the sparse play but youd think 31 starts in two seasons since meant that he had corrected that problem youd think his play the last two seasons would be rewarded by the hawks so why does it seem the bills got him too easy? still seems like something big is missing from the equation. -

Meathead replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
lmao. ty captain obvious one year deals usually are for aging players, guys coming back from questionable injuries, very young unknowns, or fringe roster players that only get signed bc a team is desperately thin at a position. very rarely a player insists on a one-year deal due to unusual market conditions to gamble they will do much better financially by waiting a season as far as i can tell, branch doesnt match any of those situations. so im wondering whats up -

Is Kolb Nix's Bridge to the 2014 QB Draft Class?
Meathead replied to Wing Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i think youre right, if the bills used their eight on a qb then barring something very unusual they arent going to come back next season and use another first round pick on that position beyond that anything else is really a development project with less 'face of the franchise' committment. so even somebody taken this second round could be a big enough question by next spring to use a first on a bluer chipper -

nah i dont think the bills are looking past this season to try to get their rookie qb. so many things can happen in one year, it would be pretty stupid for a team as qb desperate as the bills to put anything on hold like that i really dont see kolb changing anything with regards to the plan for this year. they will still draft smith or barkley at eight if they can, and take the best available guy in the second if they cant. then they have a full season to see if anybody steps up to become the reliable starter, and if not they can take another qb next draft -
The Kolb Poll and Ledger
Meathead replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yeah there simply isnt enough information to know whether to like the signing or not in its most basic form, hes really just another insurance policy that the bills will have somebody not awful ready to start games this season. it was a very good move in that they got perhaps the most ideal guy out there for their needs bc they didnt have to spend any picks to get him, and he still at least gives the possibility that he has upside from what he has shown the last two disappointing seasons a lot of it will depend on what the contract details are. we know they arent just going to hand him six and a half million a season but since we dont know how much is guaranteed we have nothing to base an evaluation of the deal on and of course it mostly will depend on how he does. i certainly dont see him as any significant improvement over fitz but he is two years younger and at least has shown he can complete longer passes. but fitz was pretty good on the short/medium range game and threw a lot more tds per attempt so right now id consider that a wash so all in all i give this signing a big fat meh -

i honeslly dont see kolb as changing anything regarding the bills draft strategy. hes just another guy in the mix for the starting job. but if smith or barkley is there at eight the bills are still drafting them. heck, theres probably at least one other qb they might still take at eight - AND i could see them drafting two qbs and cutting tjax. so yeah nuthin really changes at all -

Meathead replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
kolb is one of the few qb signings that would make sense bills have obviously gone all in on a rookie pick at qb. they will give that pick every chance to start. already got their veteran backup/emergency starter in tjax. now the only advantageous add is a young disappointment that still has a chance to rebound. kolb appears to be that guy -

What is the best flavor of wing to eat durring a Bills game?
Meathead replied to dayman's topic in Off the Wall Archives
every off season for the past ten million years humans have talked about the perfect buffalo wing sauce and every year its exactly the same thing. hotshots come in and list off all their fancy shmancy ingrediments and try to claim theirs is the best buffalo wing sauce. im not saying its bad, ive had plenty of fantastic wing sauces, some that i might even like better than classic buffalo win sauce but thats just it - there is only one buffalo wing sauce. if you are talking ultra classic, works every time, no need to experience that agony of all that work and yet missing that true buffalo flavor defeat, then theres only one formula franks and butter. youre welcome -
