  1. Latu might fall because of the injury concern, though I share that concern. I mostly have a different list at WR. I like Thomas, Mitchell, Legette, and then I like McConkey, who isn't an X, though he can play outside. I am biased, because an UGA fan, but I think he is going to be better than many imagine. I like Polk and Baker the best from the rest of your selections. I've said a few times here that I am afraid McD is going to rush the podium to select Cooper Dejean. Newton is the only fella that could fall to #28 that I wouldn't blame them for taking, though I strongly favor WR.
  2. I presume ahead of time that most folks recognize that everyone is making a guess, educated or not. And so much depends on the specific situation that offers or complicates the opportunity presented to a player. All that said, in any field, one ascertains which voices hold a degree of authority for you. That Cosell was off on Mingo doesn't really answer to whether Mitchell will turn out well or not. In a similar, analogous way, the Bills making a trade up for Watkins years ago bears zero import for whether any other putative trade up for WR would work out well or not. Anyway, I am not tied to Mitchell. It's a shame we are not really in a position to move up for one of the top 3. All you can do is take your shot and hope for the best. This is the question that occurs to me as well, but I was distracted and too lazy to ask it. I have those two ahead of Coleman for the reason you stipulate.
  3. So, he has to play where Kincaid plays most of the time? I don't think I like that. I wish Odunze would fall far enough to make a play for him. (I presume he is WR3.) I'd gamble on Thomas' traits, but even he is probably out of reach. I think Legette is the next best play at WR that is likely to be there at #28, but I think Franklin might be their pick. Read an article comparing Franklin to Diggs. And Worthy might be an option, but neither of them is a big X.
  4. I know you think you're brighter than the rest of us. The wise are few, but taking an unpopular opinion doesn't mean you're right. As I wrote above, I like the player, just not the cost. And I gave alternatives that I think are excellent players. If you view Dejean as a unicorn, that might justify the choice, but I know from other threads we just have strong strategic and interpretive differences.
  5. I'd much rather find a way to trade back up into the third and take Javon Bullard or Cole Bishop. WR in round one or trade back into the early second and take WR. That should be the play. I don't like the edge players likely to be there at #28. If Newton is sitting there, I'll understand taking him at #28. He's a really good player, but it's not what I would want to do. I do think McD would love to have this fella on the team. So would I, if it doesn't mean you spent #28 to get him. Well, I think it would put the fan base over the edge. Except for you, you like that sort of thing.
  6. To be honest, the more I research, the more I think I would be willing to pay a fairly high price to move up and grab one of the top 3 if someone slips to 8 or 9.
  7. Appreciate your thoughts. I'd gamble on Thomas and his traits, but I don't think he's likely to fall within a modest trade up, and I'm not sure Beane is plausibly in a position to do much more than that to get him. I'm mostly not on the fellas you are liking, but I can see how you could make a case for them. I'd be fine with Polk at #60 if they do something rather crazy like taking Cooper Dejean at #28. (Like the player, just not NFL S in the first. I just have a feeling he is McD's crush.) They ought to go find a way to get Bullard in the 3rd, btw. Worthy would be exciting, but he's really a feather. I'd prefer a WR that doesn't just scare with speed, but can punish a tackler, and block. Ideally. Legette is the fella I come back to. I can't get past Franklin coming in shorter and lighter, then that awful Combine. That's probably not fair, and folks like his tape, apart from some drops issues. I'd rather not repeat that aspect of the Davis WR2 era.
  8. So you're worried about Thomas and you don't like Mitchell. I'm sure you've said who you like at WR who is outside the top 3 impossible to get fellas, but I don't feel like searching for it. If you rule those two out, I'm on Legette, then McConkey, even though he's not what most folks are looking for.
  9. If that is a true story, the day 2 Center won't happen. Move up DT -- Sweat, Jenkins, Fiske, there are a bunch of candidates. The main point is that while Beane "has work to do," what needs to be done is not some unlikely and super difficult task. A good GM can accomplish what needs to be done.
  10. I'd like to end up with Legette (or Thomas/Mitchell, if they fall), Van Pran, and Bullard/Bishop by the end of day 2. Beane would have to make some trades to pull it off, but it's not a ridiculous ask. Then I'd take the best DT left on my board, and then the best RB. With what I have left, I take BPA, though I'd opt for OL and maybe a late round edge if it's a tie.
  11. They should just take him at #28 if Thomas and Mitchell are gone.
  12. I think he's trying to speak it into existence. It's magical thinking.
  13. I was hopeful at the end of last season. Turned out to be a mirage. I expected KA to make more aggressive moves in the off-season, and pretty much all he did was bring in Clifton and ancient Erik Johnson. They absolutely need an experienced coach who will demand results and be mean. The Sabres are soft, and they reflect their kind, mild-mannered leader. I know folks will say nostalgia, but I'd love to hire Ruff. Still mad about Peca. Unfortunately, I think this analysis is correct.

  15. Not everyone likes him, but I would not pass on Mitchell at #28. Don't know if you have an opinion on Greg Cosell, but I think he is an excellent analyst. You should look up his take on Mitchell.
  16. I guess you could stipulate enough conditions to try and manipulate the scenario into a particular choice. I just glanced at this page, so maybe I'm not following the conversation properly. If the question is about WR specifically, and you stipulate Thomas and Mitchell are gone, and Legette is a second rounder on the Bills' board, I suspect Troy Franklin could be the choice. I'm not high on him, nor am I keen on Coleman at #28, but it's possible those are the fellas they are looking at. I would make most of the board unhappy and take McConkey, if Legette is ruled out and you have to take a WR at #28.

  18. I think they probably try and trade back, but if Cooper Dejean is on the board, McD might just run the card up himself.
  19. That chart doesn't take into account specific situations. I think a move up from #27 to #10 when you know the target is a QB ought to bring a lot more. If you think it was fine, that's your prerogative.
  20. Charlie Campbell is supposedly pretty plugged in. His latest mock has the top 3 all gone by pick 6. Then it's a long wait. The next WR is at #28. It's not what I would do. He has the Bills taking Worthy as WR4. Thomas goes #31 to the Niners, and KC takes Mitchell. I would not be happy with that, but at least it isn't DL.
  21. I'll throw a couple of names out for illustration. I'm not going to talk about the DTs, Murphy or Newton. Don't know if they will be there at #28. I'd still rather go WR, but I think they are reasonable late first picks. Newton is better than that, I think. Regardless, backup 3T to Ed Oliver isn't going to make the same impact as WR2. I think Legette is likely to be there at #28. I don't think it's a certainty, though lots of folks are sure he's a late second or thereabouts. Thomas I would be amazed to see there. You have to trade up. Mitchell is a maybe. I don't think he's one of your favorites. I like him. I like McConkey, but l want to focus on Legette. If the choice is Legette or either one of the Robinsons, Legette has a much clearer path to making a difference. He is the kind of receiver that can put fear in the defender, because he can truck you. Yes, a one year, slightly older fella. Otherwise, he's not there for you at #28. Legette is a genuine replacement for Davis, where Samuel is a gadget guy plus. So, I don't see a situation where it is likely the WR sitting there at #28 isn't the most compelling choice, unless you have an agenda and McD wants the first toy for his precious.
  22. I don't think Rapp and Edwards are really equal to even late career Poyer and Hyde, but I don't believe the gulf is immense. They still need to add at S. It's a decent draft to grab one. Assuming they wait till the mid-rounds, I like Tykee Smith and Jaylon Carlies. Hopefully one of them will be there. (I'm not talking about day 2 fellas, but there are some good ones.) I think Beane can probably get someone like Clowney as a post-draft signing. I just don't like most of the early edge players in the draft, especially the ones likely to be there at #28. And since I favor WR, the narrative I tell is aimed in that direction. My belief is we should be a much more dangerous offense with Josh Allen, and if we were, it would make the job of the D easier, because the opposing offense would be forced into more predictable and desperate straits. It wouldn't always happen, and it is always better if you have a ferocious DL. You also have to have access to the players that make that possible. Maybe you think we do, but I am skeptical, and as I said, I want to try a different gambit. I hope you don't feel inclined to answer with red letters.
  23. Might be correct. Football was almost outlawed when college kids were routinely dying on the field because of its brutality. Doesn't mean that a rule change can't be a mistake. There is a level of violence inherent in the game. We'll see how this plays out. The larger issue is the malleability of the rules to the idiosyncrasies of interpretation by individual referees, and the seemingly arbitrary and inconsistent manner that they are applied. The NFL wanted that close-up of Kelce and Swift celebrating a Super Bowl triumph. Doesn't mean it was scripted, but the vulnerability of the game to the whims of officials is what gives fans the feeling that the narrative can be easily shaped by a call at a propitious moment.
