We're Heading to Pittsburgh... The Stadium is Haunted
Bill from NYC replied to ryguy101's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is haunted, and I am living proof. In 1996, the Bills were headed to Pittsburgh for a playoff game. I read in the paper that Bruce Smith was listed as doubtful due to the "flu." I was beyond furious. I called him everything but a child of God. Flu? I can't express how much of a wimp I considered him to be. We lost, and Bruce was just so great we may have won with him in there. Who knows? Well, a week or two later I was driving home and was freezing on not the coldest day. i was so cold put on the heater full blast. Walking from my drivway to the house I was shivering, and had the worst flu of my lifetime. I lost 14 pounds in a week, and was hallucinating yellow and red cartoons on my bedroom wall. On the 4th day I was able to eat half pice of toast with no butter and a few sips of black tea. I realized that I would more than likely live. That same flu today would surely kill me and I am the first on line for flu shots. My point? I was just so angry at Bruce for not playing. I wanted him to go to Pittsburgh and play professional football with that flu in 20 degree weather, and it turned out that making it from my bed to the bathroom was barely if at all possible. I guarantee that others on this board remember that game. Bruce wound up in the hospital as I recall. Well, karma came around to haunt me for my judgemental rant lol. -
As usual, your post is on point. What I don't understand was why the Bills drafted Elam at all, let alone traded up for him. The focus should have been on providing Josh with protection and weapons, NOT a cornerback. The very next pick after Elam (#24) was Tyler Smith, an all pro guard who Dallas rewarded with a four year contract which contains 81 million dollars guaranteed. I'm sure he would have been a benefit to both the passing and running game. And this type of idiocy is not at alll new to the Bills. In 2008 we drafted Leodis McKelvin at #11 in round one. LT Ryan Clady went at #12, and Branden Albert (who was very good at both G and OT) went at #15. This, and our OL sucked at the time. If we simply had to go defense in 2022, George Karlaftis went at #30. They might have been able to trade down and take him. Wan'Dale Robinson was the 11th pick in round two. He isn't great, but is he better than anyone we have? I don't know, but he is doing rather well with a however promising rookie, and assorted stumblebums throwing to him. His production would undoubtably be better with Josh. Let me readily admit that it is easy to look back at these scenarios in retrospect. I am not saying that I would be a competent GM (although you probably would LOL) . The thing is, Beane's salary is undisclosed and McDermott is said to be making between 8 and 11 million per season, and their priorities are NOT getting protection and receivers for Josh. Nope, they want DTs and cornerbacks. This is what they are getting paid to do. Sorry to rant, but this situation is really beyond my ability to comprehand.

Yes of course. We should mortgage the future for more defensive players. McDermott doesn't focus enough on offense, and why should he? After all, our receivers are world class and our OL is young. Josh getting help should be an afterthought.

The wheel is turning and you can't slow down, You can't let go and you can't hold on, You can't go back and you can't stand still, If the thunder don't get you then the lightning will. Won't you try just a little bit harder, Couldn't you try just a little bit more? Won't you try just a little bit harder, Couldn't you try just a little bit more?

beane gets fired and you are the new gm
Bill from NYC replied to nuklz2594's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, that is the problem. We need to draft more cornerbacks and undersized defensive tackles.Screw the wr position!!! Our wideouts are future all pros. All of them. -

I would fire McDermott before I had my morning coffee. -

Have a blessed day NG!!! -
I really think that it can. We continue to draft our way downhill with McDermott pulling the strings.

If they fire him this morning I will be fine with it.

A Few Thoughts about the Texans Game - Community Edition
Bill from NYC replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with some of the good things that you said about McDermott, but they really do need to get rid of him either now, or at the end of the season. If he is in town for the free agency period and the draft, we are destined for the same dumb decisions to be made. Also, I know he is under contract but at some point, Josh might ask for a trade. Tell me, how do you think Josh felt while watching the 2025 draft and seeing him draft defensive players with the first FIVE picks? It is that simple. -
Random talking head says something about the Bills

Yeah and the coach isn't at all concerned about giving Josh weapons. If he was, Josh would have better wrs. -
Sure. He doesn't prioritize defense, Beane does. Gotcha. 🤨 Exactly. McDermott set this in motion when he traded away the Mahomes pick for a cornerback and never looked back.
