Enough dodging: who is the QB for this team/why?
Fan in Chicago replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just want the Bills to get it right this time. If EJ is not ready for prime time yet, I would rather wait for him to get used to the speed and sophistication of the NFL. I am sure others will chime in that it is best to learn on the job, but not every QB is the same. Just the fact that he was drafted in the 1st rounder does not automatically mean he can be a day 1 starter, as most top QB picks have been recently. I hope the coaches treat EJ on his own merit and not get pressured into starting him if not fully ready. I will trust Marrone and Hackett on this one. -
Considering the big "snip"...recommendations?

Was it the scalpel or no scalpel method ? Also, did the doc check twice for sterililty ? eball - after my scalpel procedure, I had to 'unload' much more than 15 times before he would test me for sterility, so just 15 sounds low. (disclaimer - I have no medical training) -

I got it done by the traditional method a few years back (after I crossed 40) . As others have commented, the procedure itself does not take too long. I went with local anesthesia and save for some pain for about 15 minutes, it was easy. Ice packs, re s t should have you up and running (not literaly) within a few days. They still test for live sperm over the next few weeks and after that you and wifey are free and clear for ever. I disagree with someone who said it is reversible. While technically it is true, the doc said it is way too complicated and painful to join them tubes back up. Overall, I am very happy I got it done. -
Last Time The Kings Faced Elimination Vs Sharks

Terrific game. Chicago had yet another goal waived off but still prevailed. Should be a good fight with LA. -

Which again goes back to the motivation aspect. Is he motivated enough to: - overcome personal problems and be an elite player in the NFL - Get his weight in control - Learn the new schemes and assignments - Give it his all on the field for every snap A top 10 needs to be an impact player. He flashed promise in his rookie season. We may even give him a flyer in hindsight for the underwhelming soph outing. But this year is critical for him. Will he or won't he take the opportunity ? -

I am not qualified to comment on the legal aspects of the case so will stay away from that discussion. However, I will say that the $750K pales in comparison to his $16 million/yr pay. The Bills hired him big bucks to fix the pass rush. Last year, maybe it was his wrist, maybe it was his difficulty with the GF or a combination of both - he did not provide the dominance expected from a $16 million player. I think he should set his ego aside, work aggressively towards putting this personal/legal issue behind him and come motivated to earn his paycheck. Aside from physical issues, there should be no excuses for the man this year. -

Part of it is weight and part of it is motivation. Last year, apparently for personal reasons, both were going in the wrong direction. For a #3 pick, he better show up this year and dominate whichever position Pettine thinks he is best suited to play. As of now, he is a question mark and it is terribly disconcerting considering his position in the draft and our needs to have a strong front. -
There is a drive-in about 2 minutes from my house and every summer Friday and Saturday, it is packed. This past weekend, they had F&F6 and Hangover. Caused traffic jams in our little community each evening of the long weekend.

So all you have against Tull is the fact that they featured the flute ? I am a fan of Tull and can attest that the flute supports their music rather than acts as the central piece. And of all the bands, you chose Tull to be over-rated ? Pray explain your reasons beyond the flute aspect. IMHO, Tull was a very versatile band that evolved over the years. From their early blues based music (This Was, Stand Up) to prog rock (Thick as a Brick, Aqualung) to folksy rock (Heavy Horses, Songs from the Wood), they kept delivering different music very very well. My only complaint against the band is that they should have stopped cutting new albums in the 80s and stopped touring in the 90s.

My review above yours, agrees with your sentiment. Looks like the audience is too (its shaping up to be a disappointment): http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2013/05/19/weekend-box-office-star-trek-into-darkness-opens-with-just-84-million/ "Four years ago, we all thought that Star Trek 2 was a lock for one of the bigger opening weekends on record. Today, we’re wondering if it will even top $200 million domestic." This has always been my gripe against Abrams. I never know when he will turn out genius material like the 2009 Star Trek or when he will make us groan with utter underwhelming crap like Super 8.

Saw Star Trek on Friday but wanted to wait a day before I posted a reaction.I loved Star Trek, the TV series and think Wrath of Khan was one of the best. Also really enjoyed the 2009 re-boot/re-imagination of the entire series. The parallel universe concept and the rest of the story was very creative and riveting. Given all this, I saw the new one and came away disappointed. I will put my thoughts in the spoiler section as I don't know what counts as spoilers or not. - The acting is good throughout. Chris Pine and Weller came across as weak and not really into their roles - Action sequences are very well shot - Cumberbatch steals the show. I liked him in Sherlock and the understated role in Tinker, tailor. Here he really comes into his own and pretty much dominates the screen when he is in it. - Story has a lot of holes or at least a real stretching of the story line to the point where I couldn't buy into some aspects. Why does Harrison/Khan lead the crew to the Klignon planet ? Why do the Enterprise's sensors detect no other life form ? Why do the Klignon's do nothing despite the federation's incursion ? How does a Harrison single handedly shoot so many Klignon's when utterly exposed himself ? Several other points throughout which I could ont see beyond - So all it takes to cure any dying person is to inject that person with Khan's blood ? The Holy Grail ! Life's mystery is solved !!! - A huge point I hated was the pussifying of Spock. Tears ? Romancing ? Showing so much emotion ? Come on, Abrams !! He is only half human and mostly Vulcan. the latter dominates. if this is the way he is re-imagined in the Abram's series, I hate it. This is not a friggin' soap opera All in all, I think it was a good action movie, but not a Star Trek movie. In the effort to make it palatable to the general public, he has sold out the Trek faithful and also made a weak story for the rest. Abrams should re-watch the 2009 movie and see that he did not have to dumb down the movie to make it more broadly acceptable. The box office may prove me wrong but I think it was a poor strategy. *(I tried to make it spoiler code but once the BB Code dialog box opens up, I see only part of the dialog box so cannot click on 'ok' to accept. Hence changed the color of the font instead

I am absolutely not surprised as there were bound to be polarizing opinions with thw confict between an apparently stronger roster and continued poor results to date. Btw, John Cocktosten hasnt weighed in yet so when he does, you can be assured of adding another five pages

Good news for Torell Troupe and Marcus Easley??

I have said it before and will probably get slammed for saying this but Troup being in a contract year has extra motivation this season. -

Mario Williams: no love for
Fan in Chicago replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its all relative. Mario will make $100 MM over a few years time. that is about 1% of what I hope to make. While I realize $750K is a lot of money in an absolute sense, in a relative way it is like me buying a $6000 ring for the one I love and hope will be my partner for life. To a homeless man, this amount will look like the reason rich people stink. Also, we don't know the dynamics of his relationship with her. She may very well have been pulling the "don't you love me enough to buy me that ring ?" crap on him. Plenty of things we don't and will never understand. But in TX, if you can sue to get it back, I fully support Mario. Also, if this relationship and his wrist (maybe a related injury ) were distracting him last season, I have high hopes for a focussed Mario coming and dominating from this point forward. EDIT: Also, these incidents serve to remind us that all these guys are humans with real issues and problems. Not some robots entering the ring solely to entertain us. -
I don't think the discussion point was whether he can take the Bills to the Superbowl in his first year. You made the reference that we should not get our hopes up because it has been a long time since the Bills last made the playoffs. That was your stated point. I am countering to say that the argument does not hold merit. too much to expect a rookie QB, by himself, to lift the team to the playoffs. But that is true of a large majority of the QBs. It will depend on the performance of the rest of the team, and in the case of the Bills, the defense most of all. But if our D takes a major turn for the better (not out of the realm of possibilty), it is certainly conceivable that EJ can take the Bills to the playoffs. Ofcourse, if he is a Gabbert type dud, then heaven help us all. But, if he plays as BenR, Russell Wilson, RGIII, Luck played in their first seasons, it is certainly possible to make the playoffs this year. And not having gone there for so many years will have no bearing on that outcome.

Hiw exactly does seeing that trivia on facebook translate into tempered expectations for the upcoming season? Past history is a reliable indicator of the future? Sad sackfranchises are doomed to failure no matter who they draft at QB? Please, do explain
