Wanna buy Ralph Wilson's art collection?
WotAGuy replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Joke's on you Ralph! I just printed every one of those paintings off the website and am hanging them in my bathroom right now. -
Well, he DID say it's "one of the good things" about Buffalo. He wasn't bitching about it - AND - It might make us more attractive to free agents from the Edmonton Eskimos.

Senators Urge N.F.L. to Act on Redskins’ Name
WotAGuy replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be on board with the Washington Gingers, especially if they trade for Andy Dalton. But honestly I think I have become immune to the term since I've heard it pretty much all my life (at least 45 years anyway) in association with the team. But when I really think about what the term means it is an offensive and derogatory term in my mind. Here in Syracuse, Ive heard a lot of black Americans call each other the N-word. But I've never heard a Native American call another Native American "Redskin". And the Onondaga tribe is pretty well represented around here. -

I'd prefer a stadium with covered seating areas (maybe not all, but at least half under cover) and otherwise be open air. I kind of enjoy snow games, but rain games are a B word.
-
Well, HSBC has a rigid roof. If he is thinking about inflatable domes, the one here in Syracuse hasn't had too many problems handling snow loads. They have had to shovel it off a few times though... http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/12/manager_of_syracuses_carrier_d.html

What was greatest decade of nfl football?
WotAGuy replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm old, but I think the 70s were the golden days for me. TV really took off - Monday Night Football, Jimmy the Greek, Phyllis George - and some of the old guys were still doing games (Curt Gowdy, Charlie Jones, Howard Cosell). The Super Bowl grew into a major event. Great QBs - Bradshaw, Tarkenton, Brodie, Namath, Dawson, Lamonica (ouch). The long ball was alive and well. Bills home games were fun, as always, but the excitement over MNF in 1973 - 1976 was tremendous. Just a great time to be a fan. -
Report: Bills tried to trade up to #1 for Sammy
WotAGuy replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ooooo..think of the hissy fits! It's bad enough they went up to 4 and got him, the way some have reacted. People would have lost their minds if they jumped to 1. Hell, we have 6 pages on the cutting of an UDFA WR fattened up to a TE! Would have been fun to watch on here though..... -
Sorry in case this has already been posted in another thread..... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24563638/bills-tried-to-trade-up-to-no-1-still-landed-sammy-watkins-at-no-4 Bills certainly were all in on Sammy. Think what the reaction here would have been if they gave up everything Houston wanted!

RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
WotAGuy replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Second that. I haven't been this surprised and pumped since we signed TO. Might have to make another purchase on Stubhub this weekend.... -
RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
WotAGuy replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With respect to Whaley's comment, I'm assuming he was saying there "wasn't that much difference" between Watkins and Evans. So, my first thought was "why not trade for Evans then, assuming it would have cost less?" But perhaps they figured the price was going to be steep either way and they may as well go all in. It's just a surprising comparison considering Watkins was the highest rated guy on their board. Must be they had Evans right up there too. -
RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
WotAGuy replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haven't looked at all 400+ posts to see if this has been posted yet, but it is pretty surprising to me: Q: What was the biggest difference between him and the next receiver on your board? DW: I wouldn’t say there was that much. Obviously there is a difference and that is why we coveted Sammy. Not to give any particulars, there wasn’t that much of a difference. To give up a # 1 and # 4 next year for a guy that "wasn't much difference" compared to the next WR is surprising. You'd think Whaley would have promoted Watkins as being head and shoulders above the next WR (pun intended). -

Peter King: Bills love the ODB jr.
WotAGuy replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Clearly, King has been in contact with the Bills.... "Of all the years I haven’t known anything entering the draft, this is really the year I don’t know anything. I texted congratulations to a general manager with a top-10 pick Sunday, saying he deserved praise because no one around the league knew what he was doing at his pick. “Ha!’’ this GM texted back. “Neither do we ” http://mmqb.si.com/2014/05/06/nfl-mock-draft-peter-king-khalil-mack-houston-texans/ -
No matter WHAT happens - there will be someone to say "I told you so". Take it to the bank (as to your second question - people's opinions are more often unwarranted than warranted )
-
Yes, I agree with your point that by trading up, you need to get a higher rate of return. By doing some math (which I abhor), these results suggest you generally DO NOT get good value on your return by trading up: http://harvardsports...-the-nfl-draft/ Further, a second paper cited within the above link found that "We find that top draft picks are overvalued in a manner that is inconsistent with rational expectations and efficient markets and consistent with psychological research."
-
If I worked for WGR, I would want the Bills to trade up as well - not because it makes sense, but because it makes better fodder for talking heads and inane "long-time listener, first-time callers" This article does a good job breaking it down by position. If you want true "odds" you'll have to do some math, but it seems like the "odds" are better to use more picks to try and find those diamonds, rather than going all in with several picks on one guy. http://nfl.si.com/2012/03/30/what-do-all-pro-teams-tell-us-about-nfl-draft/

I got 4 for the San Diego game on Stubhub and paid almost exactly what the Silver individual game price is - including fees.
