  1. Many local shops are out of silver. There is an online exchange APMEX.com that I used for the first time the other day. I've been trading stocks of mining companies, but I finally bit the bullet and purchased some physical silver the other day. It feels REALLY nasty right now, hence my post Wednesday night in the other thread. Things can start to go bad in a hurry unless the Feds pull something out of their sleeve. There are ETFs in Silver, but the rumor is that they have been shorting shares to people, thus do not have enough actual silver to cover their commitments. If somehow we end up having a "banking holiday" in the near future.....run to the store before the rest of the country wakes up. I hope we don't get to that scenario, but I don't see how we can get out of this mess without everyone trusting each other and foriegn countries not dumping our dollar.
  2. Awesome KD.....I was going to drop a wiseass line, but I'll save it for the automakers.
  3. Josh Reed...aka..."Chocolate Welker" Kelsay...going to earn the paycheck as other positions are solidified around him.
  4. You do know that if the economy is going to get as bad as it looks.....5 other teams will be looking to sell, and there will be few knocking down the door to buy. The best part about the Bills is that they have no debt. If Wilson dies and nobody has money to buy a team, the Wilson family may do best by getting a low appraisal to pay a small tax amount compared to what it would be under normal market conditions...then taking out a small loan to hang on to them for a while, or just sell it to a local group. The Bills need a 1-2 exacta to stay in town. 1)Toronto has to prove they are not interested in the NFL......looks like we are on the way. 2)Economy has to keep tanking, because Buffalo has a natural bottom built in and could actually pick up as a cheaper alternative with cheap land, ample fresh water, the power grid starts 10 miles away on the Niagara, and we will be able to work through a Depressionesque situation easier than most places. Now....nobody may care about sports anymore if that is how bad it gets, but it WOULD.....probably keep the Bills in Buffalo. Jacksonville is beating off sales rumors, and look for more to start circulating. The moneybags in the world with a bunch of debt are in deep do-do right now.
  5. Yes it is......and pray. It feels like walking down a Bourbon St alley at 3 AM. Something can jump out at you any moment.
  6. That was the best part! He took out his imaginary blade and shiv'd the Mo'fo! I love it! Now...I've said a few nasty things about politicians, but I don't think I ever used charades to geld one before.
  7. If there is anything that proves animals are more innocent and deserving of care than humans....it is this message board!
  8. Don't worry....they'll be taxing those pretty soon too! Is there any better feeling in the world than crashing onto a fresh kingsize bed after turning the hotel room thermostat to 65 degrees when you first arrive after a long day of travel? Well, maybe the bucket of Sam Adams from room service and the $500 call girl that shows up an hour later....but, you get the idea.
  9. Go Big Brown!!
  10. If you've ever seen the movie Let It Ride with Richard Dreyfuss.....that's it in a nutshell. EVERYONE has "just missed" stories. Most of the people involved at most of the tracks aren't rich and famous. Just hard working types trying to make a few bucks at something they like. Some of the guys at the very top think their doo-doo don't stink, yet some are down to earth and will crack a beer with you. It's a very small world where everyone knows each other and is surprisingly tame and friendly considering everyone is in direct competition. The one thing I have figured out is that I do much better usuing my own handicapping skills to bet than to listen to all the hot info going around the barns. It helps to be on the inside to know when NOT to bet, but it is impossible to make a horse win. You can have a great feeling and something minor goes wrong throwing it off. The best part about the job to me is being right when everyone else is wrong....finding the diamond in the rough. I don't make killer money since 90% of owners lose cash in the longrun and I will only take money from someone if the horse does great for them. There are a lot of people who take tons of money from unsuspecting people, but I'm friends with everyone that I partner up with and feel guilty if a horse doesn't do well.To show you how unpredictable it is...I've purchased horses for 6 figures only twice, and one never made it to the track and the other isn't a world beater as of yet. My best picks were $20K and $30K...which is a lot of dough in the real world, but small stakes in racing. We sold the horse that was $20K right after buying him and the horse went on to make $500K for Jamie Lynn Siegler's father. Then Sheikh Mohammed from Dubai bought him. All the Sopranos came out for a few of his big races. Some day I'll get them to sign a winner's circle photo, but I never seem to be around on the same days. In the same sense, I picked out a horse for $25K and he never finished better than 5th for us and we sold him for $2,000. That is why I don't push anyone. I can get 10 people from this board to put up $2,000 and pay $200 a month for training, and you would have the time of your life if we had the first horse. If it was the second horse, you would never talk to me again and probably not want to go to the track again either.
  11. What....are we going to start losing one a week now? This stinks. A bit ironic that the most American Pie political commentator and the most cynical political commentator go back to back. George....I know you didn't think there was a God, but hopefully he found your sh#t funny enough to give you a pass!
  12. Did you enjoy the Turnpike Traffic while trying to sleep? That place gets some action because they are about $30-50 cheaper than the chain places. It isn't quite as bad as you say, but it isn't Orchard Park. I'm guessing the beggars you saw near the hotel were selling newspapers at the corner of University. I don't know why, but Florida makes it legal to sell things in the middle of freaking 10 lane highways. My Dr. is across the street from the old Orange Bowl. That is in the heart of Little Havanna. I was a 21 year old white boy when I started going to him while everyone else in the waiting room was 75 and Cuban. In reality, the Miami everyone thinks of is just a 25 block stretch of beach. Other than that it is 80% Latino and Carribean and not the most glamorous place.
  13. While many times it is worth it to be humble, shut up, and not stick out.....at times it is worth the scorn of many in order for just a few to "get it".
  14. I figure that instead of being called a do-gooder and judgemental prick, I would unleash the street in me. It isn't quite the Ode To series from Petrino, but maybe...just maybe, some street ryhmes can bring us all back into focus. I will ride the coattails of this for a few days before I unleash my next masterpiece, " A James Hardy Mutha's Day"
  15. I will no longer comment through writing, but only through freestyle.
  16. Well, this way he gets the stadium, AND the Big Tree wings!

  18. Ahh!...so you are wise kind sir! Really....If Grant posts a hockey point, it is objective and very good. If he posts off topic, I usually go to the website. If he posts on the Bills...well, I don't trust the Canuck fans right about now, but good for him!
  19. I'll take a guess at the guy making the quote.....could it be...oh, I don't know....Fred Smerlas? Sounds like a fix to me. The Bills could have easily been laying points with the favorite all over the bookie world and cashing in. Wolford is a smart guy, he runs a horse stable at times, he knows about the scene. This is even worse than Spygate when it comes to the integrity of the game. By taping, you may play better. By letting a guy go in for a touchdown, you will play worse.
  20. I am back in Buffalo part/full-time after being gone for 10 years. While it has not been on the upshoot in a long time, these past few years have signaled a possible turnaround. I give little to no credit to the politicians. The unions bled this place dry, and keep it on the critical list. However, the Buffalo area is quicly becoming an alternative to high end or low end white collar jobs. The banks are moving jobs up here from NY and Chicago, and this is a hotbed for call centers. Why ship the job to India when someone in Buffalo will do it for $8 + commission? Here is where Buffalo rebounds in a big way. If the country starts to slip into an extended recession/depression. This place is recession-proof. The last 2 years real estate prices are up for the most part. There is plenty of farmable land, fresh water and transportation outlets, a railroad infrastructure much better than most cities, cheap power source with Niagara Falls......we are a self-sustaining city if oil runs dry. Companies will continue to look to move jobs to more affordable locales as profits are blown up and costs need to be cut. Amherst can become a hotbed, and downtown will start to see vacant office building snatched up at a quick pace. Once again, the politicians will not have much to do with this, and the tax problem will still be a problem as the state loses all kinds of revenue from Wall St cutting jobs and losing profits, but I can see where Buffalo becomes viable again over the next 5-15 years as a well-rounded resource stocked city. My biggest disappointment since coming back is that you really notice the blow-hard/hard luck attitude. This probably has to do with the fact that most of the city is 55+ and 21 and under. I am a Mr Magoo at times as well, but it almost seems that the city has given up thinking on it's own and just takes the status quo or what is told to them as fact. The passion to learn new things, or question the establishment is almost zero. Not a shocker. The people are still 10x nicer than most other places, and they rally around each other in a personal or group crisis. One more thing. The Bills have a very good chance of staying here if economic conditions are flat to down for the country going forward. If teams start to see revenue down, and valuations come down 20-30%, there will be 3 or 4 teams in much worse shape than the Bills. Money may be dry enough that the Wilson family has to take the tax hit and hang on for a while through an equity loan.
  21. It's all about winning games
  22. Man....if they are smart, they'll find a way to get him a 5 or 10 minute segment on the show if they decide to change the format up a little bit. God Bless the kid. I don't know if it has all set in yet, or he is just that poised.
  23. Not to be a total downer, but Intelligence sources list New York (#1), Boston (#4), and Miami (#5), as the most likely targets for a nuclear attack thanks to their symbolic, financial, semetic, and port access status. If by some means we do have a disaster and there are 5 suitcase nukes floating around in operatives' hands right now, there is a very good chance that the Bills would get home field advantage throughout the playoffs thanks to a 6-0 division record, and the weakness of opposition in the 10 games they would actually have to play. I call this scenario, The Patriotic Hedge.
