    In the interests of both fairness and league stability, the league office has decided to allow the New England Patriots $20 million of cap relief for the 2020 season. Also, they will also be granted a fourth round compensatory pick in this week's draft.

    As of now the league office is planning to hold the 2020 draft as scheduled, however we continue to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 virus on NFL operations and will make any and all decisions with the safety of players, team employees, and the general public utmost in mind.

    I am very happy to report the NFL ownership group and players’ association have reached a mutually beneficial agreement that creates additional benefits for both current and former players, and improves the excitement of playoff races and games for the fans.

    Due to an oversight by the league office, New England was not granted a 4th round compensatory pick. That pick has now been awarded. To compensate the Patriots for their pain and suffering, the league has also granted New England a 5th round compensatory pick.
