  1. Not really. Sorry for the confusion. My prediction is that Terri's case will (eventually) become one of the poster children for euthanasia. My opinion is that euthanasia is very dangerous for society. My guess is that others will feel or be swayed to feel that it is healthy for society. That is what I was trying (obtusely) to discuss.
  2. It's only a prediction and it's the latter. Felos, upon the "discovery" of the pain Terri suffered, will advocate euthansia as an alternative to what was done. He and others like him will gradually be more and more in the news. You have already bought part of this argument as evidenced with your phrase "looming health care crisis" comment. Who decides how many dollars a life is worth?
  3. I'm going to be obnoxious and try this again since Illy hijacked it the first time and turned it into an anatomy thread. If you feel like commenting on the overall point, have at it. If not, please go back to the hijacked thread or the 39 page Terri thread. This post is part opinion and part prediction. As Terri Schiavo dies of dehydration and starvation, the attorney for her husband has told us all that she is doing so painlessly and peacefully. Morphine has been administered to her, so it seems as if there may be some pain being felt. This isn't meant to be a thread about whether she should be kept on a feeding tube or not. It is about what I think will happen next (I hope I'm wrong). Currently the majority of articles in the press describe the "rational" arguments for pulling the tube and the "wildly flailing and emotional arguments" for keeping it in. They paint a picture that we are supposed to see in a certain way. Terry is compared with various forms of plant life and made fun of in the press and on this site and others. This is what disturbs me the most. Opinion: Human life is important and its value is being defaced in this process. Prediction: Felos and his gang will take it to the next level some months (probably about 4) after Terri's death. They will "discover" how much pain she went through in this process and argue that others in her situation should be spared this pain. This will be a gradual process of course, but over the years there will be attempts to raise the standard for what constitutes "life" and which "illusions" should be put to an end. Felos and others like him will lead the charge. It starts with a feeding tube, then maybe a wheelchair, or a voicebox, or whatever. It never really ends. I know this is a slippery slope argument, but it is there in front of us happening. I don't think it is a socialist vs. capitalist thing per se, but it does involve people who have a "utopian" view of what is best for society. They feel they are smarter than others and can be the judges of what value a life has. They may or may not succeed in their efforts, but they are wrong regardless of their future "successes". Human life has value and always will whether our society recognizes it or not.
  4. If heaven is eternal, isn't all time on earth a bonus of sorts?
  5. A. Way to stick to the overall point of the thread. B. Am I to understand that the "rational" doctors are administering a drug that they know is useless? This drug is being given as a placebo for other people? Ok. Would it be malpractice for a doctor to prescribe a drug that is not needed?

  7. My socks were white with a yellow toe, but now they are white with a yellow toe and grayish brown on the bottom and have a small hole in the heel. Oh, wiat. A hole is not a color. Now I've gone off topic. Sorry. BTW, No. Nothing. Samoas. See above. I don't know what that means.
  8. Flutie left some pixy dust behind.
  9. They are both scofflaws.
  10. No. Some dude from the northwest. I forget his name. I think he played for the Patriots.
  11. I have an inside source that tells me the Bills are looking to move Losman to the Cowboys in exchange for a future HOF QB.
  12. I thought I would be the only one to say Reed, but I'm glad I'm not. I think it could be him. If not Reed, I'd say maybe Aiken.
  13. I've already ben about 1,000 times but you should all try Saratoga for a day of races. I'd like to go to all the major league parks. The Pirates new one is tops on my list because it leaves a great impression from TV.
  14. I thought this post was written in a homer-ish fashion until I took a look at your avatar. He was lit up the entire second half of last year. And if you think it was because he was injured/tired you have about a 25% being right.
  15. In related news...... BANG!!!!!!!! Wow that bang was BIG! Sorry Adam, I had to. That's been on here 300 times already.
  16. The first one to use the words "hokey pokey" in this thread should be banned.... D'oh
  17. I so glad someone typed that before me so that nobody would know that I would be dumb enough to write that. Oh wait.....
  18. Or they have extremely strong religious beliefs which we as a society should rip from them because we are all smarter than they are.
  19. The part of this article I find the funniest is that Clayton's "scoop" is basically extrapolation on Henry's public comments. He offers nothing in the way of real new information. Should I be surprised?
  20. Stop pointing out the apples and oranges comparisons. All white people should be outraged, because one demented freak is a white guy. It doesn't matter that his demented freakdom was the only factor in his spree. Either that or the improper use of the Koran should be ignored by all muslims at all times because there was once a demented white freak.
  21. I only read the first two pages of the Cards thread and think they have an accurate assessment of Henry's value. Henry's value is dimished because of all the RBs in the draft. Some of them correctly point out that getting Henry would free them up to seek other positions in the draft, particularly with their first pick (#8?). This makes Henry's value higher to the Cards than to other teams. Where they go wrong is in their calculation of Shelton's value. If Travis Henry is only worth a 4th, that is one thing, but the market for Shelton is even softer. The whole league knows he will be cut so his market value is all housed in his relatively modest contract. When comparing that to Henry, it makes for a different equation and a better one for the Bills. With that said, it is fine for TD to hold out for Shelton plus improved draft position, depending on what he thinks the Bills can get in FA or draft. Buut he only wants a slight improvement in draft position, the angst might not be worth the possible improvement. Of course this all depends on our evaluation of Shelton.......
  22. No house is pristine and in need of no work. It might seem that way, but I promise, if it's a house, it either needs something or it will very soon. The semi-fixer upper probably needs more work than you think. Your budget is important and based on what you've said, I'd lean the same way. We built a new house and it needed work (water softener, paint, wallpaper, etc.). I will say that the thought of a semi-new (pristine) hose did appeal to us, but I think no matter what you do,, buying a house comes with unexpected costs (especially your first one). Good luck.
  23. I didn't really want to do it, but I'm not a real big fan of calling other human beings celery (or whatever) so I felt in this case, I'd make an exception. Not to nit-pick, but it was not a typo, it was a speeling error. He did it twice.
  24. Why would a caring person fight for over two years to get money for therapy and upon receiving the money, immediately halt the therapy? Why would a caring person state in court records that he wanted to take care of her for the rest of her life, while he had already taken up with someone else? Is this someone whose word we should accept carte blanche? Why would you call someone a vegetable if you can't even spell vegetable?
  25. Do you agree with his earlier post when he called her a piece of broccoli too? Or just the post where he defends the guy that fought for 2.5 years stating he would take care of her forever (of course he was banging someone while stating this). 2 months after he got the money he "remembered" her wishes and decided she couldn't bear it anymore.
