The Bills are definitely a playoff caliber team. The only thing that may keep them out of the playoffs this year is that both Pittsburgh and Baltimore are very good, and both New England and New Jersey are very good too. I consider a playoff team to be a team that all teams need to account for. I believe the Bills are a team that even the elite teams will have to carefully game plan for, and not considered an easy win. (Remember, even yesterday, it was a one score game late into the 3rd quarter before the defense began wearing down). I also think that a playoff team is one that will be in the "thick of things" come January. I would not be surprised to see the Bills, Jets, and Patriots* all sitting at 11-4 going into the last week of the season. My fear is that New England will not lose that game at home, and the Bills will be sent home packing for another year. Does anybody think that the Dolphins, Broncos, and Titans are better than Buffalo? That's four wins right there, and most people would consider a 9-7 team... a playoff team. With that said, I certainly agree with the OP, this team is still growing. Dareus and Shepherd will only get better. Aaron Williams will turn around and replace one of our aging corners. Kyle Williams and Chris Kelsay will get healthy again, and our defensive unit will grow stronger. Our offense is already there (in my opinion). Fitz is a franchise quarterback, Stevie (I hope we can keep him) Johnson is a franchise wide receiver, and Freddie is Freddie. I think the Bills have a very real shot at getting into the playoffs this year, and next year (if not sooner) will challenge for the AFC East crown.

I would have to agree with the Patriots* thing. After the game was over, I conceded that the Bills went back to being third in the AFC East. But now that the initial pain has subsided and the Patriots* have lost, I realize the Bills are still in First! If you would have asked me if I would have taken 5-3 at the midpoint of the year, knowing their schedule (Pats, Jets, Giants, Eagles), I would have taken it. Look for the Bills to go 6-2 the remainder of the year and finish 11-5

Revis Island didn't seem so scary of a place. I thought Stevie had a pretty good game!

The Bills lost today because....

I couldn't sleep. Since I live in China, normally I will go to sleep at a normal hour and sleep a few hours. My alarm wakes me at 1AM, and then I watch the game. Insomnia meant that I didn't sleep a wink before the game. And I couldn't sleep after the game. I'm really tired today -
Shouldn't your name be cjspiller28?? Also, my birthday is January 23rd... Just thought I would throw that in there.

I think this game will be a test for Dareus. Mangold is one of the best centers around, and will have some tricks in store for the rookie. With that said, I still expect Dareus to collapse the pocket. Sanchez is not an elite QB like Tom Brady or Eli Manning, nor is he dangerous on his feet like Michael Vick. Sanchez doesn't scare me. I see the Bills doing a lot of what they did against the Raiders defensively. Sell out to stop the run (they did stop DMac and Bush for the most part) and make Sanchez beat you through the air. If Sanchez throws for over 300 yards, I think the Bills are doomed. On defense: it's all about stopping the run and containing the pass. On offense: I have to believe it is going to be the Fred Jackson show. It would be nice to get CJ Spiller involved (as people have been stating on some other posts), but I think the Bills will live or die by FJax on Sunday. J-E-T-S-jets jets jets--- S-U-C-K-suck suck suck! Go Bills!

I enjoyed it thoroughly. Chan Gailey should be proud that they think he looks like James Caan... The Program is one of the greatest movies of all time. Ralph Wilson and Eric Wood were the ones that made me laugh. The Stadium being a toilet bowl was too cliche' and unoriginal.

I think Chan has too much time on his hands. They should have beaten the Redskins 42-0

From what I have observed on this board, most people see the Bills finishing 9-7, maybe 10-6, or 11-5 at best. But according to the Power Rankings, that seems pesimistic to me. Of the Bills 7 games they have played, only one team is ranked lower than 18 in the league (the beleagured Washington Redskins) The Bills are 4-2 against opponents ranked 18 and higher. Meanwhile of the Bills remaining 9 games, five of them will be against teams ranked lower than 18. So far, the Bills have shown no signs of playing down to their opponents, and therefore should destroy all five of these teams (like they did to the Chiefs and Redskins). I then think it is realistic that the Bills will split against healthier competition. That will put the Bills at 12-4 at the end of the year. Hey, if the Bills beat all the teams ranked below them, we are looking at 13-3. Can't argue with the Power Rankings... or can you? http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings/_/year/2011/week/9

The Buffalo Bills have beaten strong teams (New England, Philadelphia, and Oakland). They are undefeated at home (does Toronto count as home?) and their only two losses were losses by three points apiece. The losses were away games and easily could have been won. Also, their losses were to two potential playoff teams (check out their records) that had strong defenses and Quarterbacks who happened to have awesome days passing the ball. The Bills are playing consistently well, regardless of their injuries. Fred Jackson is playing better than any back in the league right now (sorry AP) and FitzMagic is magical. Even though their weaknesses (passing D) have been exploited by some of the best teams in the league (NE, PHI), their strengths have turned such games into victories. Green Bay looks amazing and unstoppable... but I would say the Bills can beat any other team in the league right now. Especially if/when they get healthy... we could be looking at one of the elite teams in the league.

Darius - time to consider playing to his strengths...

Don't be surprised if this is exactly what they will do once (and would have done if) Williams is healthy. The Bills may very well have the best two defensive tackles in the game. Doesn't that sound great? -
Don't forget that the Bills secondary got two more interceptions!

I have always said, sweep the Jets, we're in. Split with the Jets, it's gonna be close. Get swept by the Jets, we're out. Although we have some breathing room at 5-2, I still think we have to win one of the two games against New Jersey. We may very well look back and see the Jets game as the most important game of the year. I sure hope we get a W.

Brad Smith is our backup QB, backup RB, backup WR, and Kick Returner... does anyone think he can play left tackle?
-
Playing a hard schedule and beating tough teams will only help us prepare for our playoff run!
-
They beat us didn't they? Aren't the Giants always good for 10 wins or so? The Giants go as Eli goes... when he is playing lights out, they can beat anybody. When he's playing poorly, they don't generally win. Too bad the Giants played the Bills on a good-Manning day, let's hope he has a good outing against New England. I would love to be one up on those guys (after we whoop the Jets next week)

At the end of the game, I was surprised that the Bills didn't let Spiller run the ball. Now mind you, I am happy that Gailey used the wildcat and ran with Brad Smith more at the end. But with the Bills up 23-0, and FJax running up the gut, I was holding my breath that he would not get injured. I'm actually surprised they left FitzMagic in there, Thigpen sure seemed ready

I hope he's back in time for the Playoffs -
I see the Bills easily beating the Phins twice, and the Broncos at home. So, that's 3 wins. (7-2) As far as the other 7 games go... Feel free to chalk up 4 losses (SD, NE, DAL, TEN) and I think the Bills can still be okay, because I believe three games will determine the entire season. They must go 2-1 in these three games. (9-7) 1. New York Jets... at home, the Bills can win it. 2. New York Jets... the Bills can not be swept by the Jets this year. If they do, they are done. 3. Washington Redskins... the Bills need to regain their confidence... NOW. I don't think the team can lose 3 games in a four game stretch psychologically. Losing to a team they should beat while coming off a bye week would be disasterous for their ego. If the Bills sweep these three games, I can't fathom them being worse than 10-6. If the Bills lose one of these games, I think they still have a chance, but if they lose two or three... it's time to think about next year. With that said, the next game is the most important one. Everyone says that, but I think this year... it may be true.

Strength of Schedule and our record
BuckeyeBill replied to Dorkington's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We are 6 points away from being undefeated! What makes you think that the Bills will go 5-5 the rest of the way? Even with a hard schedule, the Bills do not look like a .500 team. Especially since two of those wins come from the Dolphins. (I can't see the Bills only going 3-5 with WASH, DAL, JETSx2, TEN, SD, DEN, and NE)
