Saw the stat that playoff teams who win in OT are only 7-18 the following week. Not sure how that will play out, and the fact KC won the "best game ever". They could be emotionally drained for this game against Cincinnati.

Comparisons to '87, '88 and '89 are interesting
zow2 replied to ProcessTruster's topic in The Stadium Wall
Any comparison to what has happened in the past to what has already happened recently is fine. It makes for good discussion. But projecting anything in the future is silly. Football is too unpredictable. Injuries, roster & coaching changes, turnovers...losing a sure W with 13 seconds remaining... No one can say because X happened in the past, Y is likely to happen in the future. The show GET UP this morning on ESPN had a segment on the Bills. Basically said we blew our best chance to win a Super Bowl. Chiefs are now an overwhelming favorite. -
Pretty rare that a team loses in the playoffs... but the QB played so well in two games, he is praised as being among the best ever in the playoffs. Allen never got to touch the ball on the final 2 possessions of the game, so he goes out a hero. He did everything he could possibly do to win that thing. And then the Bills do something no NFL team has done in the last 15+ years. Lose a game when kicking off with that little time left.

Part of me thinks that if Gabe Davis was able to carve up the Chiefs secondary so will J'Mar Chase and company. It's possible that KC, coming off an emotional high will not play at the level we saw last Sunday night. That's probably the only chance Cincinnati has. I would have had the same concerns about the Bills had they held on for 13 freakin' seconds.

Do you want KC to cruise to the Super Bowl title?
zow2 replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ll take choice #3. They can beat the Bengals (cuz i’m not mentally prepared for Joe Burrow and Cinci to get a Lombardi trophy before Josh and Buffalo). Then i’d like to see KC lose in the most soul crushing fashion to the NFC team in the Super Bowl. Even worse than 13 seconds. Not sure that’s possible but that’s what i’d like to see.- 79 replies

I agree that anything would have been better than what we did. Sure, let Mahomes run around killing clock while he either scrambles or searches for an open guy. You would hope someone could close in on him within 10 yards or so.

I don't even think i can watch this.

I'm getting angrier and angrier as the week goes on. Hopefully as the game gets further in the rear view mirror i can get to acceptance.
-
I'm in the anger phase now. I think I'll be here for a while. Saw the stat on ESPN this morning about Josh Allen being only one of 5 QB's to ever have 9+ TD, 0 Int in the playoffs. The other 4 all got to the SB, and 3 won it. I'm angry.

Sullivan: Bills' McDermott choked away Super Bowl-caliber season
zow2 replied to QCity's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. I've been around a while and cringe when i see people matter-of-fact post "Allen will have a couple rings before it's all said and done". I think it's a coping mechanism for some people. That's just not how it works though. He likely had one ring this year, but the game was horribly blown,...not his fault. Mahomes might be wearing Josh's ring this year. It hurts. The best thing the Bills can do is maintain continuity, and just keep kicking the can. Even though people are pissed at McDermott right now, he is a respected coach in that locker-room. We have a smart GM. We have a franchise QB. They will all learn from this, and even though cap restrictions will come into play and make things harder, they will keep reloading with some new guys and F/A vets. Just maintain this continuity and give yourself a shot each season. That's all we can do. But 2021 was likely a ring lost, for sure. -
Yes, good post. You need continuity in the front office. The people that want McD fired are not thinking rationally. You keep this band together (McD, Beane, Allen, etc..) and keep kicking the can. Hopefully, eventually, they break through.

Sullivan: Bills' McDermott choked away Super Bowl-caliber season
zow2 replied to QCity's topic in The Stadium Wall
Next season the Bills will probably split their close games...have more injuries...finish around 10-7 or 11-6, make the playoffs and who knows.. The killer this year was they did the hard part. They came back and beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead...er, except for 13 seconds. That game was won. Only the Bills staff could somehow scheme us to a loss. -
Sullivan: Bills' McDermott choked away Super Bowl-caliber season

My only solace with any of this, and it's helping me cope...is that for 17 years we didn't sniff the playoffs. The Bills were mediocre or bad, sometimes a laughingstock, Tom Brady's b*tch, blah blah blah. It was almost like Buffalo was not part of the NFL. So now we are back to being really good. With that comes another soul-crushing loss in the playoffs. I'd still rather have this than those 17 years of nothingness. -
Josh Allen is a future HOFer. There I said it...
zow2 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ugh, they put up a stat this morning on ESPN. Josh's playoff numbers put him in rare air. 9 TD's zero int's. Only 4 other QB's in NFL history have done that and all made the Super Bowl that season, 3 won it. -
In a game where the last team to have possession of the ball was gonna win, unfortunately KC had the final 2 meaningful possessions. But since one of those possessions was only 13 seconds remaining it's a complete choke job by the Bills. We will never get over this.
-
I like the analogies comparing stuff that has happened in the past to stuff we have experienced now. However, that's where it ends. You can't project anything forward. The Bills have come close 2 straight years. With coaching changes, players turnover, other teams getting better, injuries, etc.. we could experience a regression next season, OR they could be amazing. Nothing from 30+ years ago will have any bearing on 2022-2023.

Sullivan: Bills' McDermott choked away Super Bowl-caliber season
zow2 replied to QCity's topic in The Stadium Wall
It just stinks that our D looks slow against the Chiefs big guns. They could not keep up with them. That's what makes KC a cut above everyone else when they are on. The way we feel is probably how a lot of AFC contenders felt back in the early-1990's. Think about how many good AFC teams never got to the SuperBowl because of the Buffalo Bills. Now we're chasing. -
I'm past being sad and disappointed. Woke up today kind of angry. 13 seconds, jeez. McD and Frazier were so outsmarted and out-executed by Reid and Co. Makes me sick since there are countless Bills fans that will probably be deceased by the time the team comes this close again. The hard work in the game was already done. All they had to do was protect 13 seconds for the W.

The myth that the Bills roster is better than the Chiefs
zow2 replied to Hermes's topic in The Stadium Wall
Actually, i watched a bunch of daytime sports shows during the week leading up to the game and kinda’ felt like the talking heads had moved past Mahomes. I wouldn’t say disrespected but Allen was definitely put up there even or ahead as a QB. I’m sure Patrick wanted to show the world he’s still the man. I thought he was great in this game, unfortunately. Maybe the world has Chiefs fatigue. I know I do. But until someone dethrones them, they are the AFC’s best. -
In addition to my teenage son and nephews, i feel most bad for Josh Allen. for getting drafted by this cursed city that knows nothing but epic heartbreaking losses. If he can’t get one here…I hope on the very back end of his career he gets a ring with Dallas, Denver or Vegas, etc. Sorry, just speaking from the heart.

Beat KC? Beat Hill and Kelce, 41 Catches, 536 YDS, 4 TD's
zow2 replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
a lot of big names perform better against the vaunted Buffalo defense than league average (see Henry, Derrick… Taylor, Jonathan… Hopkins, Deandre, etc) -
Upon further review...was Bass supposed to pop the kick up?
zow2 replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not having Tyreek back there kind of tells me that KC was not going to try a return and kill the clock. No matter where they got the ball it was going to be immediately downed and they had 3 timeouts
