  1. There's no market for Trent; there's no market for Roscoe. We could not trade either of those players to any team in the NFL for anything. I agree Whitner should lose his job - I also agree with others that you keep him on the team for depth. He's not that bad Trent, on the other hand, should be outright cut in the offseason. He's not an NFL QB. Sorry. Not sure what to do with Roscoe. I guess keep him around and see what happens next year. Maybe he'll wise up.
  2. +1. I'm not going to give you one of those "you can't say if" posts either, but there was no indication at all we were ever going to score in the Cleveland game under Trent. That loss to Cleveland was just a matter of time. Roscoe saved us all from watching the Bills lose in OT rather than regulation, that's all. Not that I wasn't still pissed at him... The Pats* game, on the other hand, was a definite "IF" game. If Leodis doesn't fumble, we win the game. I say 4-3. So we're 3-4 and a game under where we "should" be.
  3. He's not benching Trent because he doesn't make that decision. Ralph does. Until Ralph tells DJ to bench him, nothing will happen. Are you guys new here? Ralph has always made these decisions for this team.
  4. 1. Joe Montana 2. Peyton Manning 3. John Elway 4. Tom Brady 5. Johnny Unitas 6. Roger Staubach 7. Jim Kelly 8. Terry Bradshaw 9. Fran Tarkenton 10. Dan Marino 11. Brett Favre 12. Steve Young 13. Dan Fouts 14. Warren Moon 15. Phil Simms Marino and Favre, despite all of their numbers, get downgraded for being poor leaders. Unselfish players with their talents would have won multiple Super Bowls. Marino could barely get himself into one.
  5. Edwards is so bad they will pretty much have to take a QB with their pick - Bradford or Tebow. I am rooting Tebow as although I haven't been a fan the last few years, the team needs his fire and versatility.
  6. You know, I think you might be right....wait, sorry, I couldn't do it. Not with a straight face. Edwards is terrible. He may not be the only problem this team has, but just watch how much more respectable the offense becomes with Fitzgerald in there. It will happen before this season is out. I've been saying it since preseason.
  7. When Schoumann went out, the Bills had Reed on the field a heck of a lot more, and he started making the catches it seemed like Schoumann had been. Not sure if this was a one week solution and this week the replacement TEs will take back over (not even sure Reed is going to play), but it was nice to see they have a couple of options for those mid-range, middle of the field passes (TE or slot receiver both seemed to work against TB anyway)
  8. I agree - not the right strategy against Brees. You are inviting the big play and quick score if you blitz him constantly. The Eagles don't know how to do anything else in their scheme, but the Bills need to play a lot more cover 2 than last week, no matter how frustrating it is for fans to watch sometimes.
  9. This is a really key point, I think. A lot of us were excited to see the Bills blitzing so much last week, but Brees will eat all of that blitzing alive. I think we are going to see a lot more of the conservative Cover 2 this week. It's going to frustrate many of you, because Brees will dink and dunk like Brady, but the fact is that Fewell and DJ will force him to be patient and get his points that way. AND - if he takes it down the field and only gets FGs, I think they will take that. So expect to see 50 short passes like Brady threw (until the end anyway) with the hope that they can be held to some FGs or maybe force an impatient throw resulting in a turnover. Blitzes (IMO) will be few and far between and targeted when (if this is possible) Brees is not expecting them.
  10. Here's another power ranking for week 2. Unlike the seemingly biased ones from ESPN and TSN posted earlier in the week, Florio seems to have a better grasph, IMO, of where teams fall. This time, the teams ahead of us are probably the teams that should be... PFT Power Rankings Week Two
  11. I didn't watch this (Rams-Redskins) game, but I think probably a key difference here is that the Rams were not moving the ball at all - 7 points total - so pinning them down in their own end was probably just as desirable as making it and the game being over. In the Bills' case, the Bucs were moving the ball a bit, and the idea of them using the rest of the time to get into field goal range was entirely plausible. Remember, if you're just up by 10, this is their goal on the next drive - a quick FG - then they go onsides and try to use the rest of the time, whatever's left, to get the TD, even if there's only time for a hail mary. If you go up 13, you take this strategy away from them, because a FG that late in the game does nothing for them.
  12. Yeah, I agree. I'm amazed so many people have a problem with this. If you are only up by 10 points, then all the other team needs to do to force overtime is have a short drive that stalls and results in a field goal, then get the ball back somehow and hit a hail mary. Why would you expose yourself to that possibility? Why not make them need 2 TDs so that in that first drive, they have to push all of the way to the end zone, which is infinitely more difficult than just making it to the 35 and going for the FG and then taking your chances on the onside kick working. It seems pretty obvious - I am as much a critic of DJ as anyone, but this made total sense.
  13. What business? The same business where players get cut based on their performance in the preseason? Sorry, but what are you talking about? This idea that passes around here that "preseason doesn't matter" just doesn't make any sense to me. Of course it matters, how could it not? It's football, it's preparation for the season, it's fine tuning...it's all of those things and it's meant to be effective. If it's not, coaches lose their jobs and players get cut or benched. This is how it should work.
  14. Thanks, and WOW. That's unbelievably inaccurate reporting by ESPN, not that it should surprise me.
  15. That was last year. This preseason he had 38 attempts and 189 yards. I was actually being generous with the 5 yds / attempt. It's actually 4.97. Not made up - fact that I had to witness this summer with my own eyes. But, if you want to talk about last year, you're helping to make my argument for me. It clearly shows the trend he is on. Yes, his stats for the entire year work out to 7.2 yards / attempt, but consider this. Before the Arizona hit, he had 948 yards on 122 attempts for a 7.77 yards / attempt average. Out of this hit, Captain Checkdown arose. For the rest of the year, he had 1751 yards on 252 attempts for a 6.95 yards / attempt average. You can see how he is heading downward from near 8 to less than 7. Now, here we sit after an offseason at 5 yards / attempt. Given this trend, predicting it continues downward is the only thing I can do watching his paltry play. Yes, I have an agenda to see him gone. Don't see how any Bills fan couldn't - the guy is terrible and not the future of the Bills organization.
  16. +1 Edwards goes 31 for 37 for a totally ineffectual 179 yards, keeping his < 5 yds per attempt average well intact The next day Edwards apologists here marvel at his 84% completion percentage
  17. When you make millions of dollars per year, you have "people" for this. That's just a smokescreen while he fights for higher contract numbers to come to a much worse team
  18. If Favre's attitude was "I want to play football", then he would have stayed where he was and "played football". Instead he jerks around every team he is involved with to the point where they cannot construct their team because he won't commit to "playing football". His attitude is everything that's wrong with sports, and it is becoming more and more prevalent and ruining the game I happen to love. So, I don't have to look very hard to find that distasteful and root against him this year. The good news, from my perspective, is that Favre is not the "best available QB who can give them a shot to win the SB". They already had a good team, and would have been well-served not employing a drive-killing interception machine to ruin it. I'll have fun watching him after his first three interception game with a giant ice-pack on his shoulder, blaming his injury for his poor decision-making, like he does every year. Really has nothing to do with my life - one of the things I do is watch lots of football on Sunday ticket every year, so yes, in that process each year I have teams that I root for and those I don't, for various reasons like the one stated above. Including a personal attack in your response shows a level of immaturity that isn't appreciated. Thanks, though
  19. Maybe you're right...I'm expecting about 45 - 10 but the circumstances make it pretty close to the top of the heap. Who knows, Brady won't want to come out, and Belicheat is very much into demoralizing division opponents early in the season to knock the out quickly, so you never know.
  20. Week 1 @ New England LOSS 2 Tampa Bay LOSS 3 New Orleans LOSS 4 @ Miami LOSS 5 Cleveland LOSS 6 @ NY Jets LOSS 7 @ Carolina LOSS 8 Houston WIN 9 BYE 10 @ Tennessee LOSS 11 @ Jacksonville LOSS 12 Miami LOSS 13 NY Jets WIN 14 @ Kansas City WIN 15 New England LOSS 16 @ Atlanta LOSS 17 Indianapolis LOSS 3-13. I was at 2-14 before Turk got fired, so, heck, we're moving in the right direction
  21. This year the Vikings have jumped to the top of the heap all because of Favre and his Roger Clemens "rent me" attitude
  22. This is a well written, well thought out argument. Unfortunately, it doesn't make sense. I'm not even sure who won the starting RB job in NE - Fred Taylor or Maroney, but let's say it's Fred Taylor. Do you see the Patriots just releasing Maroney because he makes a little money and isn't going to start? No, you don't. Because a halfway intelligently run team knows about depth, about injuries, situations, etc. that call for the team to have reserves with some level of experience that can perform in place the starters when needed. Yes, yes, I hear you about to say that Walker "sulked" and wasn't going to be any use, but the Patriots are disappointed in Maroney too. Yet he's under contract and gives them bits and pieces of utility here and there when they need him. He's not the starter but should be, but that doesn't mean he should just be unceremoniously cut from the team. There's no way to avoid that this is purely a $$$ move by Ralph, however well you try to argue otherwise.
  23. Don't worry...only 6 more days to the worst, most embarrassing loss in Bills history
