  1. The fact that Ravens reporters and fans (see some of the inane comments on PFT and other places) were in such denial about this signing shows how much they did not want to lose him. On that alone I consider this a great signing because it seems like they really valued this guy.
  2. A warning to everyone that is complaining about this already and saying it would be a bad pick for the Bills....I see this one coming, and personally I like it. It would be a return to Best Player Available philosophy rather than the Needs-based picks we have seen recently. All of the teams with successfully recent track records in the draft go with Best Player Available. I predict the top OTs will be gone by the time we pick, and with the signings today of Davis and Edwards, you can cross off McClain or a reach for Dan Williams. Best Player Available would be down to Spiller, Dez Bryant and maybe Claussen. Nix will not pick T.O. Jr. (Bryant) and so it comes down to Spiller and Claussen. Given that I think a trade for Thigpen is still in the works, you end up with Spiller. Gailey will find all sorts of ways to use him - like a Percy Harvin, but used as a RB more often. Imagine a 4 WR set with Lynch in the backfield: Evans - Freddie Jackson - Spiller - Hardy / Johnson (and this is assuming we don't pick a better WR in the draft). This would likely leave a LB covering either Spiller or Jackson - no chance. Yes, we need OT desperately, but I really think if the top ones go, you'll see them wait until Round 2. I know everyone will hate it, just don't be surprised.
  3. Well, point taken, sort of. The reason to me it DOES matter about the Colts is because let's face it - Edwards would have lost that game. When you can't pass the ball effectively in weather even if there are no defenders, there's not much hope you'll succeed is there? My point was just that at least Fitz did what was expected there - we were playing nobodies, and anyone competent would have handed them their hat - which, guess what? - is exactly what Fitz did. If Edwards was playing, we could have lost the game 10 - 6. To me, at this point Edwards is 3rd QB on this roster, and we only haven't cut him because we're waiting to see if we pick up a QB in the draft or through trade / free agency. Once that happens, he'll be cut, or will get beat out by the others in camp now that we have a legitimate offensive coach running the show.
  4. Wow....just....wow. Trent Edwards is better than Ryan Fitzpatrick? Really? I can't believe I just typed that. No, he's simply not. Given that Edwards is possibly the worst QB to get more than 5 starts in the NFL in the last 10 years, that's really astonishing someone would type that and not be joking. Wow. First thing, Fitzpatrick was the first QB in many years to play in Buffalo weather like he actually had a clue (re: Colts game). And before we get into it wasn't the real Colts, I don't care if it was Lackawanna HS across from him - he was dropping back, completing passes, maintaining a friggin' grip on the ball and showing moxy in the weather. Unlike Edwards who runs to the sideline to hide under his blanky when it's under 45 degrees. But beyond that, what evidence is there for what you typed here? Fitzpatrick completed more significant passes in his short time playing this year for the Bills than Edwards has in the past 2 years. Really, what the *&*()! are you talking about here?
  5. In related news today Bill Belicheat told reporters that he had approval to tape games from former Bills head coach Marv Levy. C'mon guys, cheating is cheating. Once you're caught, it's on your name FOREVER.
  6. That's right - and I have a bridge to sell you, too.
  7. This is clearly posturing by the Dolphins for a Thigpen trade. I can't believe there are reporters out there who would report this at face value, rather than the obvious true intent of the team (falsely inflating Thigpen's value). Clearly, at 2.5 million, Pennington is the backup. And just as clearly, Pat White will not be given up on after being drafted so high, so he is #3. Thigpen will be released or traded, and of course they are hoping for traded, hence these leaks. The amazing thing is these reporters report it as they hear it, rather than seeing through it. Or, are they so enamored with being included that they report it even thought they know it's false, just to be a part of things?
  8. I actually agree with this thought. Besides the QBs in this draft not being any good, I think the Bills will do exactly as you say, and work with either one on the roster or Thigpen this year, while improving both the OL and the D through the draft. If the QB situation doesn't work out (again), then, to answer your question, check this out: 2011 Mock Draft Specifically, the QBs are: Jake Locker, Washington Andrew Luck, Stanford Ryan Mallett, Arkansas (they have him going to the Bills in the above link) Also interesting is that it looks like the top half of the 1st round next year is very heavy in QB and WR talent, if all of the expected underclassmen come out.
  9. Yeah, you know, I'd much rather have Trent Edwards. When he's released, he'll stand up on the podium dry-eyed and let us know that "he wasn't a fan of this team anyway."
  10. He's a better prospect than any QB in this draft except maybe Bradford, and only a couple of years older.
  11. With Pennington returning, Henne the starter, and Pat White already in place, there's no room for Thigpen. Maybe this Pennington move is a precursor to a Thigpen trade to the Bills? PFT says Pennington coming back to Dolphins
  12. I remember a few years ago, when we signed Dockery and Walker on or around the first day, being all excited like it sounds like the OP is for this night to come. That was back when I considered the team competitive, and actually worth following that closely. Now, sadly, they've lost me. I won't be staying up tonight thinking anything is going to happen. I check in a few times over the next few weeks for the updates on the no-names we bring in
  13. I really think the Bills have Saffold from Indiana targeted with their round 2 pick, much like Byrd was targeted for round 2 last year, regardless of what else happened. That said, the round 1 pick is best player available - if it is Bulaga, great, then they will probably get 2 tackles with their first 2 picks. But if there is another player that falls, I believe they will take him without worrying about the tackle, knowing they have a guy expected to be a round 3 guy targeted in round 2. I mean, they hired his college OL coach, didn't they?
  14. No. Please, god. No. I can't take even another snap of it.
  15. I will want to blow my brains out if we draft Gerhardt at all. He is the classic 1 year wonder who had some success in college but will have none in the pros. That would be another wasted draft pick by the Bills, regardless of round.
  16. Sabres, Duke Blue Devil basketball, San Diego Padres, Atlanta Hawks
  17. Wimping out at the combine has long been a sign of what's to come in the NFL. Pass...
  18. I am afraid he is going to suck as much as he has always sucked.
  19. He looks huge out there - more like a TE than a WR. I like him - but I'd be concerned he's just another Hardy, and we have one of them already. We drafted Hardy to be our big wideout and then found out he's too big and slow to get in and out of breaks and get open. Thomas might suffer from the same problem once he gets to the NFL and finds everyone is faster.
  20. I didn't say he was the answer, just the best QB right now on the roster. I'd like to see McNabb or Thigpen brought in, but if not, Fitz and Brohm should compete for the job. Those calling for Trent I just don't understand.
  21. +1. Come on guys, I can't believe these discussions are going on. You don't look at stats, you look at wins. Fitz is clearly the better player. He makes bigger, game-winning plays. AND - he played well in the snow. Something Trent has NEVER done. Doesn't matter that we were not playing the real Colts, he was out there throwing the ball well in the snow and didn't look like he wanted run into the locker room and get under his blanky. And to answer the OP's question (what ever happened to Trent) - he was sacked by the Arizona Cardinals and never was the same. Unfortunate for him but he showed us all a lot by not being able to come back from that. Every NFL QB takes a hit like that at some point and most come back from it.
  22. Wow. I hope you are joking but I don't think you are. This kind of thing really scares me. Edwards is done in this league - we all know that, right? No way he has as much upside as Fitz. He can't even get a pass off anymore unless it's to a back 2 yards away. Of course Fitz has more upside than Trent. It's not even a discussion.
  23. Edwards was hired by Florida a month ago. It's quite probable he's never even met Spikes.
  24. The guy's kind of an idiot, and not a good coach at all (head or coordinator). Anyway, it seems he's made the switch to TV now anyway - he's been all over one of the channels as an analyst since being fired - NFL Network, I think.
