  1. I wasn't impressed with any of the o-linemen in the Senior Bowl yesterday. The DL dominated that game on both sides.
  2. Even at RB and OG, I can see us drafting there. What if we draft a great guard like Iupati and move Levitre out to T? He did well there last year. And at RB - big fan of Freddie - but that's really all we have there. Probably need to draft / pickup a RB too. So again, to me, the only places completely not worthy of a pick are CB and S
  3. Is <insert any position on the field besides maybe the secondary> a need in this draft? Yes, this team has holes everywhere.
  4. Exactly. My problem back when we made the Lynch pick is they were talking up Fred Jackson. So I thought, "hey, we've already got our replacement for McGahee". You have to believe your own opinions. I think Marv thought highly of Jackson but was afraid to be wrong, so he picks Lynch to hedge his bet. You can't do that. I know it sounds like 20-20 hindsight, but at the time I really was all set to give Jackson a year based on all I was hearing from Marv about him. Then we draft Lynch when we had lots of other needs and unless we were going to get Peterson, it just didn't make sense to me.
  5. Simple, Fitzpatrick has his head in the game, making plays and not playing scared. He is worthy of an NFL roster spot. And...Edwards is not. He's a deer in headlights who can't make decisions, much less quick decisions. Personally, I don't see a QB in the draft that's going to be appreciably better than Fitz and Brohm. Who are you going to pick up from a "winning program"? Tebow? He's a fullback in the NFL. McCoy? Not an NFL arm. I don't see it. Sure, picks will be spent fixing the lines, but I don't see getting a franchise QB in this draft. The only franchise QB I can see coming here is if we trade for McNabb. I certianly hope we do, but you have to admit the chances are small.
  6. I agree, but it has to be someone shifty. A Percy Harvin-type that can serve as 3rd down back and maybe slot receiver. This is the way the NFL is going. We tried to do it with Parrish, but he is too frail and, well, sucks. C.J. Spiller would be ideal but he is going in the 1st round. Not sure who else fits the profile, but we need it to compliment Freddie (starter) and Lynch (power back). My other comment is people should expect a lot more defensive picks now that Gailey is on board. He will feel he can make the offense work with a lesser QB and will instead focus on getting a lot of defensive help. I do think he'll work with Nix to draft O-lineman, but people thinking we are drafting a QB early are going to be disappointed. That's not Nix's profile and I don't think Gailey will push for it either.
  7. +1 - Edwards is hopeless I do think Fitz should be kept though, at least through training camp to compete. I think Gailey could work with him.
  8. Exactly. I am not huge on the Chan Gailey hire, though I am growing to like him. But let's face it, Chan Gailey and Norv Turner are the same coach. Offensive minds with mediocre records when they were hired. What's the difference?
  9. Do you mean the guy from East Aurora? I'm right here.
  10. Yes, but given the recent history of college coaches jumping for better jobs, I wouldn't be surprised if he took an NFL job over college if given the chance. I believe the only time he was a DC in the NFL was the Redskins in 2003 (when Spurrier was there). I don't think the defense was very good. I can't recall their style, but it was one of the years that Lavar Arrington was a beast for them
  11. Gailey was on local sports talk radio in Atlanta this afternoon with Dan Reeves. Nice interview between two old football coaches. Anyway, after the interview, one of the hosts (former Georgia QB from the Herschel Walker days Buck Belue) said he had heard a rumor that Gailey was interested in George Edwards as Def. Coordinator. Maybe he's reading ESPN Insider, not sure - maybe he had a legitimate source.
  12. I posted in another thread about Jon Tenuta, who is currently between jobs after the Weis firing at Notre Dame. I don't think Brian Kelly has plans to retain him, and not sure if he'd be interested anyway. Here's my other post:
  13. Look for the possibility of Jon Tenuta. He and Gailey worked together at Georgia Tech, the last time Gailey had the power to choose a DC. In fact, Tenuta was the assistant HC at Tech and they had a successful defense during their tenure together there. Tenuta then went on to Notre Dame the last 2 years as Assistant HC, Defensive Coordinator and LB coach and pretty much failed there, but before that he was a very hot commodity in the college ranks. When he was with Gailey, they made a good team, relatively speaking. Jon Tenuta - Georgia Tech
  14. I'll be right here. Will show the same courtesy when we see he's a big bust.
  15. I would say Nix would be much more interested in a young QB he helped to draft like Charlie Whitehurst. He's SD's third QB, and while they are unlikely to want to get rid of him either, if they ever try to stash him on the practice squad to make other roster moves, we might be able to sign him away. I forget how that works exactly, but it is what we did with Brohm, no?
  16. I do not consider Favre as a top 5 all-time QB. That said, if he plays like he did yesterday all of the way through the SB and wins it, he will creep into the list (my list anyway): 1. Manning 2. Montana 3. Elway 4. Unitas 5. Brady 6. Steve Young 7. Favre Favre and Young are basically tied - I would probably have to move Favre above Brady and Young (and maybe Unitas), if he plays clean all of the way through the SB. I don't see it happening, though. I see a typically Favre interception-filled loss next week when he has to face Sharper and has to throw a lot to try to keep up with Breese. JMO.
  17. Yep. Have you watched him run? He's not running at NFL speed. Anyway, I'm all for trading for McNabb. One of my favorite players in the NFL, and still a fine QB in the league.
  18. I hope no one on this board would seriously consider Gerhart as an NFL RB. He had a fine college season, but he is not a RB in the NFL. Maybe a FB, not even sure about that. Way too slow
  19. I don't see it that way. Every Panthers game I have watched - and I have seen a few, since I am here in the South and see them against the Falcons and also many of the other NFC South games, he makes questionable head coaching decisions - sort of like DJ - he is conservative when it's a good time to take a risk, and takes risks when it makes sense to be conservative. I've also never liked the offense, which amounts to running it twice and then on third down chucking it long in Steve Smith's direction. The only reason it was successful for a while is that Smith was so amazing earlier in his career. You are not going to get a Steve Smith in his youth at your next job.
  20. I am on record as vehemently disagreeing with people who say we should pick up Fox if Cowher somehow ends up as coach of the Panthers. I really dislike Fox. Now, Coughlin on the other hand, I would hire as coach in a happy second if he were available. In fact, if Coughlin and Cowher were both available at the same time and clamoring for the Bills job (hey, I can dream), I would hire Coughlin. He's had success with two different teams and rarely fields an under-500 club. Cowher's done it in one place and it took him a decade to get there.
  21. Rich Kotite < Herm Edwards < Everyone else who has ever called himself a coach at any level of football
  22. Thanks for your valued opinion. I shall cherish it always
  23. Here's a blog post from almost exactly 2 years ago when the Redskins were looking a coach on Grimm's qualifications. Some more interesting stuff here as well: The case for Russ Grimm
