  1. I hear Dick Jauron called and said he wants back in. Ralph is considering it
  2. Everyone keeps posting that if Frazier is the next HC, they will stop following the Bills. I am fine with Frazier. Also fine with Brian Shottenheimer. These are up and coming guys who show a lot of promise. But John Fox? Now that will be a decision that will make me stop following the Bills. That guy is terrible.
  3. Well, I don't think Frazier's coming to Buffalo. According to Wikipedia, he is allergic to chicken wings: Leslie Frazier on Wikipedia
  4. This is a good reason to keep Fitz, not Edwards. There is no reason to keep Edwards. Guy will never be an NFL QB.
  5. This game is proving players that we have that can play in the snow: Fitz (Edwards never could - doesn't mean he should start but he should be on the team over Edwards) Freddie Stupar Evans (we knew this already) The next coach needs to take note of this. If these guys were playing when we played Cleveland in the snow last year, we would have won easily. Instead we had Edwards, Lynch and Royal
  6. What you see from Fox is consistently bad decisions year in year out. Gibbs had one moment of clock mismanagement. Not remotely the same thing.
  7. +1 - short memories around here. Doesn't anyone recall that Jauron actually out-coached Fox earlier this season? Why would you want someone who can be outcoached by the guy you just ran out of here? The only other guy Buffalo coaches have outcoached this year was Haley last week by Fewell. Fox made all sorts of really questionable decisions in that Bills game, and I haven't watched that much other Carolina football this year, but the results seem to indicate he's not much better in the other games either.
  8. No, you've got it wrong. His cousin is Brenndan Shannahan.
  9. If Fewell somehow earns this job, and Lovie is fired from the Bears, don't be surprised to see Perry reach out and tab Lovie as his new DC.
  10. It's nice to have a qb with some stones.
  11. I like the way TO is playing too, but he did drop the ball at the end of the game last week. Would have put us in range for a tying field goal.
  12. Putting Mike Leach in the title was just a way or coaxing you into my thread
  13. Bills QBs have thrown for 2,008 yards on 334 attempts this year = 6.01 yards per attempt Georgia Tech QBs have thrown for 1,491 yards on 128 attempts = 11.65 yards per attempt This type of running attack opens up the passing attack as well. They have a bunch of long (70+ yard) touchdown completions this year.
  14. I know there are some Mike Leach supporters on the board, and that offense is really impressive, but I don't think it would work in Buffalo. We need to run the ball. One guy I would throw out there for discussion in Paul Johnston, current head coach at Georgia Tech. I call him the anti-Mike Leach as where Leach has a brilliant structure for the passing game, Johnston has an equally brilliant approach to the running game. His offense has had success where ever he has gone, and while it might not work in its purest form in the NFL, I believe he would accept the challenge of proving it would work there, and make adjustments to that end. I think that has been the only reason he has left coaching positions in the past - to prove his offense will work where he goes next. The NFL would be his ultimate challenge At Tech, this offense routinely scores 40 points a game against just about any competition. It is relentless. Also, coach Johnston is a no-nonsense leader. I live here in Atlanta and have heard multiple interviews with him and am always impressed with his frankness and tough mentality. Also, the offense is NOT the triple option, that is only one of the plays that can be run from this offense. I believe, given the chance, he would adjust this offense slightly to work in the NFL. Give him someone like Vick and watch the fireworks. For an education on this offense, watch EDIT TO ADD: I should add that I am very much in favor of Shanahan, but I think Johnston should be added to the list of "other HC candidates" if we can't lure Shanahan.
  15. The best thing about that play was seeing the emotion from Fewell that you see from other team's head coaches.
  16. Bud Adams knows that the only team he ever had to even reach the Super Bowl did it by cheating and throwing a forward pass in a game they lost, but the refs gifted them a win. And even with that help from the refs right through the playoffs, they STILL lost the Super Bowl. He knows in his heart he can never, ever live that down, and that he will never win a Super Bowl. All of those years of effort for nothing. So he acts like a child. Good for him.
  17. Please not Jim Harbaugh. Can't stand that guy.
  18. Good point about Jax, but I think they are at a point where they need to make the playoffs and win at least one game (too many seasons at .500, like the Bills). And I don't think they are going to do that, I think they will have another later season collapse. I could be wrong, which would be great, one less opening for the Bills to compete with. Yes, perhaps Gruden would go to Carolina instead of Jax. I considered that, but decided to keep in FL.
  19. Thought it might be a good time to give the coaching carousel a spin. Here are the teams I expect to have vacancies after this season, in descending order of the most desirable job / most money to spend: Washington - Bill Cowher Dallas - Mike Shanahan Chicago - ____________ Seattle (GM only) - Mike Holmgren Carolina - ____________ Cleveland - Marty Schottenheimer Jacksonville - Jon Gruden Buffalo - ______________ Oakland - _____________ The rest of the teams that are bad already have first year young coaches he will be given a chance. I also expect several veteran coaches to survive, as one bad season will not deter the stable ownership at most of those teams (Fisher, Coughlin) The remaining 4 spots can be filled with a combination of coordinators, Brian Billick, and the fired coaches worth re-hiring (Lovie Smith, maybe Del Rio) Care to fill in the blanks? I had a hard time giving Billick to the Bills, as I would really prefer Schottenheimer, but I think Cleveland might reach into their past, and if this was a draft on desirable teams for a coach to go to, we'd only be picking ahead of the Raiders.
  20. You're a little late. This happened to be about the 10th game of last season.
  21. No Marty would be a great coach for the Bills
  22. Uh, first, you're nuts. That's the longest, crookedest line I've ever seen drawn from one thing to another thing that it has absolutely nothing to with. But what I really want to say is that the day Jeff Fisher becomes the HC of the Bills is the day I stop being a Bills fan. Can't stand that guy.
  23. Let me help you. When the primary pattern on a play where 7 yards are needed is an 8 yard out and the QB actually executes on that play, it is NOT a checkdown. Reed didn't bail him out. The ball was thrown exactly where it needed to be for the catch to be made. Of course the DB is trying to push that route down to 7 yards; that's his job. Checkdown = play is designed for pattern down field (e.g. past the 1st down markers on a 3rd down play) and the QB just doesn't "see" it (or..."they weren't giving it to us" aka "it's hard to win in the NFL"), so he checks down to a shorter pattern (usually to the RB) and asks that player to attempt to use their athleticism to pick up the first down himself. Which is exactly what the defense is waiting for, and usually stops it. Bailing out = TE throws a 2 yard pass on 3rd and 8 to Freddie and he somehow dips and weaves to a first down, which has happened a few times this year. Most of the time, though, you'll notice that Freddie and Marshawn are stopped short on those plays because you play right into the D's hands when you do that.
  24. Another thing I like about Fitz: 3. He has played behind and learned from real NFL QBs. Particularly Palmer from the Bengals, but even Bulger from the Rams (who wasn't as bad as he is now when Fitz was with the Rams). Trent learned everything he knows (NFL-wise) from DJ, Steve Fairchild, Schonert, AVP and (gulp) J.P. Losman I would think even Trent supporters might want to see Fitz play a few weeks so that Trent could watch someone with backbone make decisions on the field.
  25. Yeah, it's not really about the "deep ball". It's about making plays that count when it matters. Like throwing the ball past the 1st down sticks on third down. Example: It's 3rd and 7 with about 4 1/2 minutes left in the game. 17 - 9 Buffalo. The Bills need this first down to keep the clock moving and get deeper into field goal range. A first down here cements the win as it puts the Bills two scores ahead and runs precious time off the click. Fitz? He needles a pass into Reed for eight yards and a critical first down. Edwards? Of course, it's conjecture on my part. But my guess is that Reed doesn't look "open" when he glances at him, and he checks down to Lynch or Jackson, who is tackled short of the first down. Probably we still get the FG, as we were inside the 20, but the first down enabled us to burn over half the remaining game time down. This is critical stuff on a team that plays to the wire every week, and we need a QB with the courage to get the job done.
