  1. I would think not and I wouldn't want them too but should EJ just be handed the job or would competition to be the starter bring out the best in him? Me personally, I have no problem with Thad Lewis starting if EJ were to go down but drafting another 1st rd QB definitely sends a message. I'm just not sure if it would be counterproductive or be the greatest motivator. The psyche is a fragile thing and this would be walking a very thin line but I 'm curious what the potential pros and cons would be. In any event having EJ, Lewis and either Manziel, Bortles or Bridgewater as our QB stable would not be hateful. Kick Tuel to the PS if need be and one of these players could be a lottery ticket down the road. Speculating on this hypothetical scenario I would think that out of the 3 Bortles would be the least sensible for us based on what our apparent skill sets seem to be for what we are looking for in a QB. Manziel and Bridgewater are mobile QBs as in Lewis and Manuel. If we did go after something this then I would wonder if Spiller could be expendable as some other poster has questioned. My here's a lot of moving parts here and I'm quite confident that this will all never happen but it is the off season and hopefully this proposes some interesting possibilities .
  2. Off topic for one moment but that's an incredibly fantastic idea and wouldn't surprise me one bit that one day we'll actually see that! Now back to the topic. How I would love to revel in Irsay's misery because I could never stand him or his father but unfortunately I understand his addiction all too well. I will say that our family got through it and was actually improved because of it. I hope the same can happen for Irsay and others who are afflicted with such demons because it's nightmarish to experience. With that being said I really took exception with his whole handling of Bill Polian and his son Chris but now I have a little more insight and understanding why and how. Hopefully he gets the proper help and support and makes a complete recovery. I'll keep religion and faith out of it so it doesn't start a controversy but that is what delivered our family member to a full and COMPLETE recovery. Whatever works for Irsay I hope that he finds it.
  3. I was just pulling up the board to post for us to get Allen and why. Thanks, now I can get right to the point. Here is my reasoning. A. I don't know about you but I'm still bitter that we lost Byrd. Signing a FA DE like Allen would sure make me feel better and he would a great draw at the gate. Let's face it, this is still a business and money is the main motivator for franchises. B. He's coming from the same division as Schwartz and I'm sure that he knows Schwartzy is all about DLs. C. Oh, we have the money so spend it! Put the guy on a 2 year deal, making the 2nd year optional. We just signed Spikes as a rental, let these guys see what Buffalo is all about and hope that they want to play here after the first year. If not just get us to the play-offs, Denver just bought themselves a team to get to the Super Bowl again, let's do it on a smaller basis because this franchise and fan base sorely needs to see some post season! D. It's a QB/Passing league and we all saw what the Giants did twice against the Patriots in 2 Super Bowls with a superior DL. Seattle last year just has a flat out awesome defense all the way around, so once again that the philosophy of defenses wins games is still valid. E. Not that I'm greatly worried about our secondary but I don't want to have to rely on them. Like mentioned earlier in this thread that as hwartz runs a 4-3 and that is what Allen is, a 4-3 DE. I say crush the pocket with our beasts, let Kiko clean up underneath and take no prisoners. If they really want to help EJ then construct a defense that just doesn't allow opposing offenses to score. Draft additional weapons and protectors (OL) for Manuel. If EJ gets hurt again or can't do it then I like that Lewis, he's electric, has got a live arm and is tough as nails, he can keep this offense moving in a worse case scenario. I could list a couple more but it's too much of a pain in the ass to do this all by an IPhone but you get the picture. Get Allen, he'll come with the right pitch and $$$.
  4. Admittedly not knowing much that was a point that I was going to expunge on. Using him screens and as a pulling Guard may make a difference in Williams' production or at least I'm hoping it will. I listened to John Murphy's interview with Williams and one thing that Murphy said before he introduced Williams is that we signed another former 1st rd pick, the other being LB Keith Rivers and while he can't endorse them as great players but because they are former 1st rders that in itself validates that they are good athletes. That makes a lot of sense to me. So seeing that we do run a lot of screens maybe this is a better signing than what it initially appears. All I can say is I sure do hope that this could be the case because at this point that's all I, we, can do about it. Go Bills???
  5. Thoughts and prayers to the Kelly family. When he was a player I thought that he had the ideal life going on. As the years unfolded and all the things came to light I sit and wonder how much can one person endure? I really wish that this guy could just finish his years out in peace.
  6. I'd rather have Jared Allen before Julius Peppers. Now THAT would be a DL!
  7. Sorry, I'm out on old Fitzy. One thing about a cut, it heals and stops bleeding. If I'm going to bleed I'd rather have a new cut because opening an old wound just leaves a bigger and uglier scar. I guess it's like what they say what the definition of insanity is. There's a reason why the Titans don't want him. We should know better than anyone else, the guy has been on what, 4 teams now? This organization desperately needs to keep on moving forward.
  8. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that we should be getting a back-up QB in free agency, although I'm not against drafting one either. Not to be negative but unless we win our division than there's no guarantee that we make the play-offs regardless of how much we improve. As of today can we win the division? I don't think so, we're still a ways from that. Keep in mind, I'm a hardcore Bills' fan for the last 40+ years. I'm just trying to keep it real, that's all.
  9. Stable but we're a ways from the play-offs and even further from a Super Bowl. I noticed that the Rams are now in need of a back-up QB, we better make a move soon if we are looking to get one.
  10. STer for this year, Fred Jackson's replacement next year. Next a bad plan if it works.
  11. I'm alright with a trade down but at #9 if Lewan is on the board, which he very well will be, and Robinson and Matthews are already taken, which they will very well be, then I think the pick is Lewan. There's a reason why all this OTs were scooped up in free agency and after Lewan there is a drop off in talent. The WR position is deep and we pick early enough in the 2nd rd to secure a good one that will fit our requirements. If we pick a WR at #9 it would be to early for our roster structure. As of now we have Stevie, Graham and Goodwin, with Ramses Barden waiting in the wings, who I expect some good production from, so where does the new guy fit in? Instead grooming for next year after seeing where Stevie is at seems more appropiate to me. Picking one at #9 means that that WR would have to be on the field now and in a big way. Don't think that this Chris Williams is going to be the end all, we need a LOT more help on that IL . No, I can see Eric Ebron in a trade down but if we stay at #9 it's Lewan. Count on it.
  12. It was another Denver WR, Ed McCaffrey, maybe the ballsiest WR that I have ever seen. When he broke his leg Rod Smith stood over him and cried. Now THAT'S the kind of WR that I hope Buffalo gets in this year's draft. My apologies, I didn't see that you had already named McCaffrey. I loved the guy, wearing those band-aids that he called pads! Lol!
  13. Taliban will probably be replaced by Revis, replacing Edelman in a WR heavy draft should be no problem, especially that Dobson has a year under his belt and utility man Shane Vereen will help compensate for catches and Spikes was a liability in pass defense, Pepper Johnson was his biggest advocate and he's with us. No, I suspect that the Patriots will be just fine. Like it or not Belichick is a football genius and he'll retool this roster once again. I'm just wondering what it will be this time, from small slot WR to jumbo TE formations to multi-faceted stable of RBs. I must admit that I do enjoy watching his creativity and innovative concepts, it's great for football and guys like him keep this sport going forward. Oh boy, I feel like a dirty little fat boy sneaking off to eat a chocolate bar for saying that!
  14. Btw, the title to this thread should be changed. It should read, Byrd is a ..... Fill in any adjective you like. I got a couple of choice ones that I could use. Also, I know consider Byrd to be in the same company as Jason Peters. Before people keep on congratulating him try and remember how he conducted himself last year. Held out to the very last moment, hid behind an injury all the while he was getting paid millions by the Bills as he was missing games and also acting like a pouty little B word in interviews until he started having success in our defense. He's selfish and he's greedy.
  15. Good luck and good riddance.
  16. Any word on what's happening with Decker? This would be a nice little splash in free agency if we were to land someone like him.
  17. No, this is me expressing a sigh of relief. And to respond to your observation, yes it was very stressful for me. I value our good players, especially due to our lack of success the last dozen or so years but only to a certain extent. Mr. Byrd has now exceeded that extent.
  18. Where are the teams that are willing to pay that kind of money? None so far. I have no problem with a player trying to get compensated for as much as he could, especially due to such a short playing span. What I do have a problem with is that when we exercised our right to tag a player, pay him top 5 salary at his position and then have him piss and moan and drag his ass in here at the very last minute and on top of that refuse to play and hide behind a bs excuse of an injury then any respect for such a player rapidly dwindles in my book. Furthermore, how about the way he acted like a spoiled little brat with interviews until after a few weeks when he started having some success in our defense is when his attitude started to change ?? Selfish and greedy is the impression I'm left with. Today I find myself unexpectedly not caring about what Byrd decides to do and let me tell you, it's refreshing ! Now, with all that being said, if Byrd does re-sign with us then I'll be a good fan and root for him to succeed but not because of him, it's because he is wearing our colors but I definitely don't view him the same like I did before today. Ps- if Byrd does sign elsewhere there will be no I'll will on my part because personally I still think that he's a good man, just a ****ty professional athlete who happens to have great abilities.
  19. It doesn't matter if there is, the damage is done. Teams weren't lined up like they were projected to be. Even if they dupe some other team it won't matter, their greed has been brought to light. The Bills gave him a very legitimate offer and it wasn't good enough. I don't EVER want to hear Byrd claim how much he loves his teammates again. He was ready to take a big dump on all who supported and believed in him and were willing to pay fair market value and then some. I hope that Parker and all the other agents out there that most of this board bleeds blue, not Byrd or any other player. The allegiance is to this franchise and to this community and if a player, no matter good he is, doesn't want to be here then adios. If we're not good enough then happy trails because when it's all over with The Ralph is still gonna rock come Sundays regardless of who dons the Red, White and Blue. Go Bills!
  20. And if he doesn't, what happens then? What ends up signing with the Bills or a comparable or a less contract with someone else? Should Parker be fired, not accurately gauging the market? Because when it's all over and done with Byrd doesn't come out of this looking good. His image and that legacy that he speaks of sure does take a step back IMO. Just saying.....
  21. As free agency is about to open no matter what happens Parker & Co doesn't come out of this "negotiation" looking too good. Their greed (Byrd included) has been exposed for exactly what it is. No matter what happens I'll be glad when this whole ordeal is over. One other thing that I'd like to mention is that I sure do think and feel differently about Byrd and also of our front office. Here's a big shout out to Whaley and staff for sticking to their guns! Go Bills!
  22. I think that it's order for us to tip our hats to Whaley & Co. They have offered a very fair deal to Parker & Byrd. They are finding out that they weren't insulted by Buffalo's offer at all. Now, if Byrd just doesn't want to play in Buffalo then we lose out and if Parker just wants to save face and accept a comparable offer or even one for a little less money then I say good riddance. The bottom line though is the rest of the locker room will come to realize that the Bills really did try and keep our own.
  23. I just saw that as well. If Miami were to land Byrd then I would really have to rethink my persception of Byrd. Up until now I have been trying to leave my emotions out of it and look at it through his eyes but if he ends up in Miami, knowing how much they are a rival to us then I want nothing to do with him anymore. Matter of fact if he were to go to anyone in our division then it would be the same result. It took quite some time (decade?) to forgive Thurman, with Byrd though it would be permanent. Go Bills!
  24. I just felt compelled to share that sentiment with all my Buffalo brothers and sisters. We have waited oh so long for success to finally come our way and while we may not be winning the Super Bowl this year I do feel that we have an awful lot of the pieces in place to put together a winning organization. Good things come to those who wait and man have we ever waited! Speaking of hanging in there I want to give a shout out to our own Jairus Byrd. I truly believe that he's a very good man and that he is not just money driven. Hang in there Jairus and stay with us, I believe that you'll be richly rewarded. What I'm trying to say to him is what I'm trying to say to you. Don't give up, we have come too far. I truly believe that if Jairus did sign somewhere else and we suddenly found great success that he would greatly regret leaving. It's not only about money and I think that Byrd, if he decides to stay that this would be one of the main factors in him staying here. Anyways I believe that this year is going to be a huge year for the Bills and their fans. Hang in there and enjoy the ride. Because of the things that we had to endure will only make the success that much sweeter! Go Bills!
  25. I was thinking of keeping the #9 pick and then pay St Louis a ransome to get their #13 pick overall. With those 2 picks I'd like to see Buffalo draft OT Taylor Lewan and WR Mike Evans. This of course would be solely based on the Bills acquiring OL Geoff Schwartz in free agency.
