Fred Jackson-Real Deal, Real Bill
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of your points I agree with except for him getting cut. I too felt that it was time to move on from Stevie, look it up if you like it's documented. Fred is still more than productive and it would send the wrong message to the team. Keeping the chemistry in a locker room is important, especially to a team that is on the rise. I don't expect Fred to be here AFTER this year but he's firmly entrenched in this rotation of RBs that we have. Btw, Dixon over Fred??? Not by a LONG shot, even though Fred is in his twilight. I would hold you to your assessments but you provided yourself with a clause, based on what Brown and Dixon is doing. I'll be more definitive, Fred will be here for THIS season uneqivocally. Bookmark this post if you like, I'm more than confident in my statements in this "feel good" thread. -
This sums up what it is to be a long time Bills' fan.

Report: Bills attempted to trade up for Carlos Hyde

This freaking Whaley was going for the knock out! I love it! -
FWIW Bill Polian wasn't too keen on part of our draft.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well said sir. That folks will be the only determination if this trade up was worth it, any other speculations by the pundits is just lip service and this won't be known until we see just how well Sammy plays. -
FWIW Bill Polian wasn't too keen on part of our draft.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's funny that you said that because he mentioned that as well. He said Dungy and Caldwell and one other administrator wanted to pass on Gronk because they couldn't rely on Gronk and Dungy didn't want to carry an extra TE in case he went down for any period of time. Polian then stated that he asked one more time like, "Are you sure that you want to pass on him because we'll have to play against him", or something very well to that effect. I must say that BP was talking very UnPolian like and I was left with some uneasiness about what our FO was doing. I'll go on record now, with all due respect to BP, I like what we did in our draft and I'm fully on board with it. I like it not only for the player(s) that we got but also getting out from under Stevie's contract and I know that this may sound callous and is VERY unpopular but also replacing and, I think, improving immensely on this position. As much as I love Stevie and appreciate how much he liked being a Bill, he was unreliable and dropped too many crucial passes. We needed to improve at the #WR position and he wasn't the answer, no matter how much we all loved him. I also feel that if we make the play-offs, and I feel that that it's very realistic, especially with Watkins, our former 1st rd pick next year will start at #20 or later, especially if we were to win 1 play-off game then it will convert to being in the late 20's. To me that is worth the risk and compensation. -
I caught only the end of the interview on Sirius radio but Polian was asked about general draft strategy/selection value and twice he referred to what the Bills did. The first reference was something to the effect of Buffalo paying a VERY steep price for Watkins, especially if such a player doesn't make the difference in making the play-offs and if we don't then he REALLY thinks that we got robbed. He said the difference withe the Cornelius Bennett trade was that Bennett was the piece that really put the team together and that he (we) got VERY lucky/fortunate that we were able to get Thurman Thomas the next year in the 2nd rd, our first pick due to the compensation that was paid for Bennett. The second reference was made about our 7th rd pick (OT Seantrel Henderson) when they were discussing what would make him exclude a player from being considered as a selection. Polian said almost per batim that he didn't know where that was going to get us. Ouch, I was kind of excited about that pick, hoping that we might have found a hidden diamond. I'm not so elated about this draft like I was before today. I sure hope that Polian is being just a bit harsh in his evaluations but him and Gil Brandt are the 2 that I revere the most when it comes to football knowledge and insights. I didn't catch much commentary during and after our draft so any input is welcomed.

RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
Tipster19 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The speed that we now have at the WR position is off the chain! I applaud the courage and there is plenty of time and opportunity to recoup some of this compensation. I'd have to say that it's good bye Stevie at one time or another. Don't think that Buffalo is done tonight, they never touched any of this year's picks, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the Bills didn't put together another package with this year's picks to get back into the bottom of the 1st rd for someone like OT Cyrus Kouandjio or maybe even that TE Jace Amaro. The Panthers could be a good trade partner at #28, that's where Stevie could be a part of the compensation. -
I am not saying that I would agree with this or saying that it would be the right thing to do. All I'm saying is that after reading an article on Pro Football Weekly I am now VERay suspicious of this current regime and what they may be up to. With the uncertainly of knowing their future, could this regime be willing to go all in on this draft? Keep in mind that their mindset may very well not have the same intentions of the franchise and fanbase due to the pressure of winning now before they find themselves out of a job with whatever new owner lays down the pike. With the Rams having 2 1st rd picks (#2 & #13 overall) and showing that they have been a willing trade partner with the Bills, could Brandon & Co be willing to trade this year's 2nd rder and 2 future 1st rd (2015 & 2016) picks for this year's #2 overall pick. If there were to be other compensation I don't think that it would be a whole bunch more than that, maybe a player more or another mid rd pick in either this year's draft or next. If the Bills could secure something along those lines then there would still be enough ammunition left to take a shot at this year's #1 pick overall. Trading Houston our #9 pick and our 3rd rder in this year's draft and or 2nd rder in next year's draft should get us in the neighborhood of a trade compensation. This article isn't the easiest to decipher but the bottom line is that no matter what the Bills decide on what to do I think that we all may be in for a huge surprise in tomorrow night's draft! http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/07/bills-making-calls-about-a-trade-to-no-1-or-no-2/

Bills, Lions trying to trade UP to ........
Tipster19 replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I stopped reading this thread once I saw this response! That is too freaking funny! Hahahahahahahahahahaha! -
It might not be a fearless prediction and I don't know how they will accomplish it but the pick will be OT Jake Matthews. He fills our biggest need and is the safest pick, the guy will be a 10+ year player that will help keep EJ, or whatever QB, upright and THAT'Sahat will make this offense work.

A case to be made for Zack Martin
Tipster19 replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't believe that that Brandon, Whaley, Marone & Associates (sounds like a law firm, doesn't it? Lol!) will trade down at all but with that being said if Martin were to be the pick then that would be the only way that I could be on board with. #16 might be the magic number again. If Jerry Jones really does want Manziel then Dallas would be a perfect partner for us in a trade down for Martin. I'm sure that Old Jerrah would pay a pretty penny to get in position to secure Manziel if that's really an accurate rumor. Of course Manziel would have to be there at #9 for this to even happen. With the extra early pick(s) I could see the Bills taking a DB with it. -
Could the Jaguars trying to bait a team to move up in the draft? Matthews being considered at the #3 spot overall lends credibility to just how good he really is. http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyId=10856259&src=desktop&rand=ref~%7B%22ref%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rotoworld.com%2Fplayernews%2Fnfl%2Ffootball-player-news%3Frw%3D1%22%7D

...And just like that highest paid no more
Tipster19 replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Byrd wanted to be here he would have found a common ground. Unfortunately not signing him earlier and then tagging him caused irrepairable damage IMO. Either way it doesn't matter, he's gone and it's time to move forward. With that being said I have 2 sons that live in Louisiana and although the Bills come first they do pull for the Saints and that's alright but they also know to never bring up Byrd's name to me ever. As far as I'm concerned I'm glad that there's no more Byrd **** to deal with and hope that his career blows from here on out. Ps, I was alright with the Saints before all this but now I hope the Falcons throttle them this year in both games and it's enough to keep them out of the play-offs. -
There is a lot of moving parts involving a trade up. OT will be the first pick , Matthews will be the top priority. If the Bills can't make a deal to secure him then they will settle for the next best OT (Lewan?). I do believe that they stand a very reasonable shot of getting in position to be able to draft him though.
-
RT or LT are interchangeable in today's game. I encourage anyone who thinks otherwise to go back and listen to what Whaley has to say about the OT position.
-
With the draft right around the corner I 'm going to take my final stab at who the Bills are going to take. After watching Whaley's interview I see that he's willing to trade up for a solid 10 year player. Jake Matthews is that player and he also fills a big time need for the Bills. I don't know how they will accomplish it, trading up or whatever but I do believe Whaley will do whatever he has to to get this done. In the event that this doesn't happen and the Bills stay at the #9 pick then I do still believe that the pick will be an OT, regardless if it's Matthews or not. I'd like to also mention that the Rams concern me with the Matthews' pick, due to OT being a big time need for them as well but also Jeff Fisher's association to Matthews' relatives.

The guy was iconic and was very instrumental in helping the Dolphins to the only perfect season in the NFL. Once upon a time the Dolphins were the biggest arch enemy of the Bills. Now everyone thinks it's the Patriots but New England never swept us for a whole decade like the Fins did back in the '70's. Today is a sad day indeed, may you rest in peace Earl, you were quite the competitor! Thanks for the memories. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/25/longtime-nfl-quarterback-earl-morrall-dies-at-79/
