Oh, I'm doing all this from an IPhone and it's hard to see the small print. When they introduced Andre Reed as a future HOFer I just assumed that this article was from before the HOF approval and induction.

I now fully realize what Jim Kelly means to me. He's not just a Former player from my favorite team or a HOF QB but instead he is a man that represents an awful lot of who I am and what I believe in. I just came across this article this morning and it seems that it might be a little outdated but it still doesn't lessen the impact that it has on me. It's great to see his HOF friends rally around him. I guess they really are HOFers. Please, pray for him. http://www.wgrz.com/story/sports/nfl/bills/2014/03/21/kelly-family-opens-up/6719277/

If EJ was/is such a hot prospect then why did we trade BACK to draft him??? Didn't that leave the door open for any of the other teams to trade up in front of us? Let's keep this in perspective, EJ was never viewed as a big time prospect. Nice would be a kind adjective to use for describing what we and other potential suitors perceived him as. Great kid though, I'm proud that he's associated with our franchise, there's no worries there about him or his character.

I was thinking more along the lines as a possibility that Graham replaces McKelvin and McKelvin becomes the nickel back. The reason being that this is a passing league and that is why the ROT caught up to the LOT as far as importance. Defenses have become complex and sending more players into the backfield (as in LDEs, CBs and Safeties). McKelvin has sick speed and if we can send him back there for disruption I think that our CBs will be better utilized. Playing our CBs with size in coverage and sending our speed demon to cause kaos would make this a VERY disruptive defense IMO.

To answer your question my response would be yes. I would like to mention one thing that I did NOT like about Manuel last year. It was no secret to ANYONE, including him, how much this team, franchise and community needed a quality QB. We took him in the 1st rd, it compounds this point even more that we spent our best pick on him. Knowing this EJ HAS to make better decisions. What I'm referring to is when he got hurt in the Cleveland game. That was PURELY on him. The first down was more than secured, the game was being controlled and then he made one incredibly stupid and/or selfish move and that was to try and extend the play. It made me sick watching that play. Say what you want, he's a rookie, he needs to learn etc, etc. But let me ask you this, what if he didn't?? Nobody can say at this point if he has or hasn't. All I'm saying is that from what we have seen it's kind of nerve racking to hang our hat on what we have seen and know so far about EJ.

Wow, I didn't mean to start an argument. I think that we might all be able to agree on this. Gabriel has credentials and credibility. He is capable of making mistakes? Absolutely but the good news is that Williams is not in a heavy contract and he is versatile, regardless if it's as a starter or as a 6th man. This post was purely intended on spreading a bit of positive news on our free agency but like many other threads it lands up going in a whole other direction.

I think that it's more about EJ possibly being injury prone more than him lacking ability. It's a realistic concern and if he were to get injured again how would the fans feel about this? When I said that I wouldn't have no problem having Lewis starting I probably should have clarified that a bit more. I'm not stating Lewis as a starter but more of a relief QB in the event of an injury to EJ. Now Lewis might be worthy of being a starter but at this time I just don't know that to be completely accurate.

I'm not advocating for Bridgewater but check out what Gil Brandt had to say and you'll see that he puts a whole another spin on Bridgewater's Pro Day. I don't care who they take if any at all but if they do happen to like someone then I hope that they don't pass on him because of EJ or because they think that they are all set. I want insurance that this position is safe and solidified. I, like many , should expect the Bills to make sure beyond a doubt that we are. We as fans of this organization have deserve that expectancy, especially after all these years of ineptness. Think about it, the last time that we had a bonafide QB was Jim Kelly and we ended up going to 4 consecutive Super Bowls! Not the results that we wanted mind you but I think you can at least understand my concerns. If the Bills' brass have the opportunity to make this a successful position, regardless of who is manning the helm, then when they have the opportunity to insure it then they need to do it because we have earned that demand. *Thank you this has been a recording.

Believe me, I really like EJ, I think that he's a great kid and his parents I'm quite sure are so very proud of him and rightfully so. I really, really want him to be the solution but I just don't know, that's the problem. I don't want this post to be perceived as a conspiracy because it's not, I'm pro Bills for over 40 years, always have, always will but I just want to be safe and smart. Not to scare anyone or be morbid but we all know that there is very little time left before Mr. Wilson's demise and then what? Nobody knows really what is going to happen to this franchise, especially now that our biggest advocate just got a reoccurrence with cancer. (Prayers to you Jimbo). Time is not one of our allies.

You're quite welcomed, it was my pleasure. I think that there may be quite a few of us in the same boat, a little nervous, being unsure about the competency of this new regime, especially with that whole Byrd mess. Plenty of us are looking, hoping that the right moves are being made. At first look I was pretty disappointed in our new recruits, well, only Williams really, but after hearing Gabriel I am feeling a whole bunch better! Go Bills!

As far as drafting BPA thinking with QB the most important position then having the BPA at the QB position is not unreasonable. Trust me when I say that I do NOT want to draft another QB but with that being said I definitely do NOT want what happened last year at the most important position on a team to ever happen again. Being what most experts are saying is a deep draft with better talent than has been the case the last several years with us not only having all of our picks which happen to be in the earlier part of each round makes this more of a consideration to me. Pair all of that with our team being skilled at most positions and now actually have some kind of depth to them as well makes this more of the time to do something like this than compared to years past. I find this all very interesting and it's an angle that most people are not anticipating but I think that a move like this could be a franchise maker and worse case scenario it would not be a franchise breaker. Sometimes in a game it's the splash play that makes the difference. Parcels lived by that and even his disciple Sean Payton pulled it off in a Super Bowl and it paid off. The only thing needed is knowing when to make such a bold move, and oh yeah, you have to have the balls to do it. I would have no problem if our staff really liked one of these QBs and went for it , eve if it didn't pan out. Plenty of times a 1st rder doesn't pan out and I'd rather take a shot on a QB than some other position if there wasn't a real stand out player at that slot when it was time for us to pick.

Deductions that I am making: A. What's the most important position on a team? B. Last year, or any year for that matter, is EJ looked at as a blue chip prospect? C. List EJ and the 3 referenced QBs from best to worse. Is any of them leaps and bounds better than the other 3? I agree, we shouldn't draft a QB to send a message or to motivate. I misspoke but I do feel that there is a reasonable amount of doubt about EJ being the franchise QB that I hope that he is. Insurance or alternatives IMO would be good safe football. For heavens' same, we had a veteran QB trip over, what, a place mat or something absurd like that??!

Sorry, just didn't understand why. I did this all by an IPhone, didn't want to message more because of that, it's a real pain in the ass. I hope you get to hear it, it's a good listen. Fwiw I found your friend very insightful and easy to listen to. I would love to hear more of what he has to say about the NFL, especially about Buffalo.

I provided a link, aren't you able to listen to it? Basically that my opinion has changed about Williams. Where as I was disappointed in this signing but now I have renewed hope. Gabriel said that Williams wasn't coming out of college and that he was hurt early in his first season with the Bears. In the 2nd year the Bears changed DCs and in turn there was a new OL Coach (Mike Tice) and their relationship never developed. Gabriel stated that Williams is a great kid, strong as an ox, extremely intelligent and now has an awful lot of experience up and down the OL and can play any of the positions except maybe for C. One other note, the Eagles wanted him after he played for Chicago but he chose the Rams because his wife has some non serious health issues and he wanted to stay as close to Chicago as possible. I think we are gonna be alright!

I thought that this would be important for all Bills' fans to hear. Greg Gabriel is a Buffalo native who works for the National Football Post but he was with the Chicago Bears when they drafted Corey Graham and Chris Williams in consecutive years. He was on the John Murphy show and if you don't want to listen to the whole broadcast (it's 18+ minutes long) then at least listen at the 6:20 mark when he discusses Chris Williams. I think that you'll get a much better insight on our newly signed LG. Admittedly I have never heard of Gabriel before this broadcast but I'm glad that I listened though. Enjoy. I like the thinking on taking someone who would be thrilled to be a Bill and WANT to be here. I was actually going to start a post about how that should factor in on who we draft, trade for and sign in free agency in the future. To compound on this point even further I think that we would be much better off focusing on local talent, whether that be a kid like Graham who grew up in the area or if they went to NE colleges. Make lot of this kids from California, Texas and Florida could give a **** going up to the Great White North. Bottom line start accumalating players that are not only blue collar but Northern players who would not loathe being in a small market, cold environment.
